no need to play stupid, obviously he was generalizing. asians score highest on college entrance exams, effectively destroying the "culturally biased" bullshit arguments.
thats not to say that lamberto isnt right. actually i think his last posts are much more accurate, there are a multitude of factors, but the "cultural bias" argument on the end of the test makers is the weakest excuse. if anything it looks like a cultural bias from within the cultures that place different weight on the value of education.
@kirsha; enlighten us. tell us some of your most effective assessments. what is more fair than treating everyone the same and having everyone meet the same standard. first i suspect you will be forced to admit that people are in fact not all the same because of circumstances. shall we have tests based on race (ie RACISM)? shall we hold separate groups to separate standards (ie AFFIRMATIVE ACTION ie RACISM)?
in fact standardized testing is the most fair way. it is fundamentally the most fair way. holding everyone, REGARDLESS of wealth, abusive or non abusive families, origin, citizenship, language, immigrant status, parents education level, culture is the fairest because it disregards these distinguishing factors and treats everyone the same (the slogan), because its the same test for everyone! everyone who proclaims to be against standardized tests i think is actually against the inequities that exist before the test even comes into play. which is fine, but you need to understand the difference or you come off as stupid and people will assume you are whining. to say standardized tests (pieces of paper that are the same for EVERYONE) are unfair is an oxymoron.
