Well I mean...his DAD worked for TV and radio, so he's saying he has a clue..which..yes..he might. However, to say Payola now isn't any different than the early 90's is crazy. It was A LOT easier for an unknown to slip somethin' to a DJ/Station...and get it played. Now-a-days..that's almost out of the question, unless you wanna pay out the ass..and for unknown's...that usually out of the question. The Major Label's run shit.

I speak of knowledge in a career I've begun pursuing. Not conducting life or death surgery on a living being.

Payola has increased no more than any other form of commercialism or inflation. Its a steady increase in direct relation to anything else, so proportionately, there has been no significant change.
Chopping and screwing up a couple songs doesn't give you vast knowledge on the music industry.

If you wanna go the whole experience/knowledge route Gawd, then...I think Tech knows what the fuck he's talking about when he says if he would have gotten out there 10-15 years before he did then he'd be huge now.

lol What I'm talking about has nothing to do with any music I've made or redone. I knew about this prior to that. If you wanna hear smaller names get played, travel more. You will hear COMPLETELY different shit on the hip hop channels if you go from NYC, to Houston, to LA, to Minneapolis.

The industry's view on rap specifically has DEFINITELY changed since the early 90's. So the way for HIP HOP acts to get in has had some twists and turns in that short amount of time. The practice of payola itSELF hasn't really changed that much however. A&R men weren't familiar with the style enough to have any sort of standard or norm to go by.

I'm sure Tech DOES know a lot more than I do, but you aren't Tech, now are you? ;)

Considering the definition of the word "payola" is debatable, as "payola" today is hardly the same thing as the simple "Here's a few bucks, spin this record mr. dj man" shit it was back in the day, you're both probably right.
