They put that nasty ass "Whisper" song on the radio, plus "Play" by David Banner
Off top, the radio will play anything you put out once you have "broke through".
Ying yang twins = whisper song... I'm guessing. They got thier jump on tv through other songs first. I don't remember which was first whistle while you twerk or i yi yi... also, as I recall they had the bump from lil john.. YEAH.
the first time I heard of David Banner was the "Like a Pimp" song. It was un-escapeable for a long time. It would be on TV, Radio, and people's fucking ringtones. As I recall he got a bit of a bump from lil' flip.
Both of these cats "broke through" using the same formula. Get a somewhat catchy song with a killer instrumental, repetitive hooks/lyrics that people will sing along to, and then proceed to "mingle" getting that popularity "bump" from other identifiable music tv characters who have already "broke through".
Now once you have got national attention you are allowed to do whatever the fuck you want. It's not "who the hell is that?"... It's "aww thats like a pimp's new shit, or aww that's the skeet skeet twins, you know them they did that song ....." I mean look at people like eminem. Do you think anyone would have listened to shit like mockingbird if they didn't know slim shady? Nope.
So it's hard for an artist to break through using meaningful lyrics. People don't tend to pay attention long enough because they get distracted by shit like "Supaman that hoe" or "Shake that laffy taffy".
The popularity bump worked for chingy... workin with Luda & the errre talk, but I haven't heard much about him since then. Sometimes the who you know bump will work... Dre -> Eminem -> 50 cent -> G Unit. Well known -> now well known -> now well known -> ..... Once your known you are then free to do whatever the fuck you want... even if it's not that great, or just totally fucking sucks.
Chamillionaire broke through on his own terms in my opinion. The mixtape shit got too large to ignore. Then it was everywhere... "Tryin to catch me ridin dirty"...
So please explain why you think welcome to the midwest is THE track to do a video for? Because of twista? That's probably why mtv would want to use that song. They can play it because twista has been on mtv previously? Look at some of the fucking clowns p-diddy uses to make bands with. They always get play on mtv because mtv is controlled by people who got grandfathered in for the most part. It's ridiculous to think otherwise, plus music videos really get in the way of all those teeny-bopper shows.
All the next video should be xxxxx people need to understand the concept of marketing.

I mean how can you make the video of Welcome to the midwest without it being hella corny?
I would agree... how would the target market of mtv viewers identify with this track? I'm sure the afterschool special kids watching TRL would relate to poppin gats and stackin off packs.
I have a hard time understanding how the fuck people come up with some of these suggestions. I would like to see the suggesters back up thier opinions within the bounds of reality. It seems people suggest shit just for the sake of saying something. Back it up, tell me why your suggestion would be worth a fuck, and remember the business aspect of this shit.
Everytime tech circles the country on tour the numbers grow and the money flows. keep doing that shit and it will be hard to deny like the mixtape game for koopa. Anyways, I wrote a fucking book that isn't even worth reading. If you posted the next video should be _______ please explain why you think so.
The only line of this post that's relevant to the topic up next...
