Opposed to no rotation and video being played only in already N9ne fan's youtube playlists?
exactly, tech's team should have went with MTV on this one

what if twista was on it?
Twista isn't even popular right now,I think everready sold more units than AR2007 in there respective first months of release. Thats a big reason why he's so amped to do the Bone&Twista album this year

Ya since Slacker, Bout to bubble helped out his fan base so much lol.....

Im not really a fan of krizz verse and its def not mainstream material.

People cannot sing along to that shit. The hook is cool and all but most people will look down on it.

Why are we even arguing even if there is a video it wont be out for another 6+ months and everyone will be too busy asking when "killer" is coming out (and bitching about how it gonna be a later release lol) by then and people will forget all about this shit.

True, Welcome to Midwest isn't like a typical mainstream song. But Caribou as the new video, it would probably amount to a video that's just like another other steriotypical rap video. And without it being pushed, and I doubt Tech would waste smart money himself on promotion, Caribou won't do much to help either. If Welcome to Midwest was made, you know, with some thought in it, maybe a concept, an atleast decent director, something more than booty, buzz and drugs shots, a non rap cliche topic, then maybe atleast when I post the new video on other hiphop forums I won't get all "that's nothing special" comments. I think the moves they're making are late too, by the time the video does come out Killer will be almost out already and it'll be pretty much worthless and a waste of money(though to just have a video would be nice). I think Tech needs a business advisor or something

At Techs point in his career he is about making money not making a video that characters on a message board will appreciate. I mean how can you make the video of Welcome to the midwest without it being hella corny? Thats just what im afraid of and you know that Prozak is gonna do the video and i just think his shit is terrible...

Lets discuss how to make a video for all you who think its welcome to the midwest....

Well even if it is about compromising your art for money, he's not doing too well promoting is he? Besides the touring that is.

And I don't even know how they would make it work, but its definitly do-able.

Ehh forget both Welcome To The Midwest and Caribou Lou. WTTMW was too weird for a mainstream audience, and Caribou Lou was too mindless for Tech's own good. You know what song he should have done a video for?? My World. That shit would have been excellent. Gritty ass beat and raps with a meaning, not too weird for mainstream, and to all the people thinking that it's too gritty and vulgar for the radio, get the fuck outta here. They put that nasty ass "Whisper" song on the radio, plus "Play" by David Banner, and it don't get much nastier than that. Really though, that song would have been excellent, plus it would have given Lynch the exposure he needs along with Tech. Does anybody else agree with me? I personally think that that song was the star of the CD. And that chorus just fuckin kills it, in a good way.

I agree
Jellysickle would of been nice too in my opinion. Just saying from the reaction I get when I play it around people unfamiliar. Tech does have a lot of nice options though, he just got to make the right moves. My World is dope, if done right it would be good. I hope he just doesnt follow the typical mainstream formula to make a video when he makes a video.

Off top, the radio will play anything you put out once you have "broke through".

Ying yang twins = whisper song... I'm guessing. They got thier jump on tv through other songs first. I don't remember which was first whistle while you twerk or i yi yi... also, as I recall they had the bump from lil john.. YEAH.

the first time I heard of David Banner was the "Like a Pimp" song. It was un-escapeable for a long time. It would be on TV, Radio, and people's fucking ringtones. As I recall he got a bit of a bump from lil' flip.

Both of these cats "broke through" using the same formula. Get a somewhat catchy song with a killer instrumental, repetitive hooks/lyrics that people will sing along to, and then proceed to "mingle" getting that popularity "bump" from other identifiable music tv characters who have already "broke through".

Now once you have got national attention you are allowed to do whatever the fuck you want. It's not "who the hell is that?"... It's "aww thats like a pimp's new shit, or aww that's the skeet skeet twins, you know them they did that song ....." I mean look at people like eminem. Do you think anyone would have listened to shit like mockingbird if they didn't know slim shady? Nope.

So it's hard for an artist to break through using meaningful lyrics. People don't tend to pay attention long enough because they get distracted by shit like "Supaman that hoe" or "Shake that laffy taffy".

The popularity bump worked for chingy... workin with Luda & the errre talk, but I haven't heard much about him since then. Sometimes the who you know bump will work... Dre -> Eminem -> 50 cent -> G Unit. Well known -> now well known -> now well known -> ..... Once your known you are then free to do whatever the fuck you want... even if it's not that great, or just totally fucking sucks.

Chamillionaire broke through on his own terms in my opinion. The mixtape shit got too large to ignore. Then it was everywhere... "Tryin to catch me ridin dirty"...

So please explain why you think welcome to the midwest is THE track to do a video for? Because of twista? That's probably why mtv would want to use that song. They can play it because twista has been on mtv previously? Look at some of the fucking clowns p-diddy uses to make bands with. They always get play on mtv because mtv is controlled by people who got grandfathered in for the most part. It's ridiculous to think otherwise, plus music videos really get in the way of all those teeny-bopper shows.

All the next video should be xxxxx people need to understand the concept of marketing. http://www.netmba.com/marketing/mix/

I would agree... how would the target market of mtv viewers identify with this track? I'm sure the afterschool special kids watching TRL would relate to poppin gats and stackin off packs.

I have a hard time understanding how the fuck people come up with some of these suggestions. I would like to see the suggesters back up thier opinions within the bounds of reality. It seems people suggest shit just for the sake of saying something. Back it up, tell me why your suggestion would be worth a fuck, and remember the business aspect of this shit.

Everytime tech circles the country on tour the numbers grow and the money flows. keep doing that shit and it will be hard to deny like the mixtape game for koopa. Anyways, I wrote a fucking book that isn't even worth reading. If you posted the next video should be _______ please explain why you think so.

The only line of this post that's relevant to the topic up next...

Thanks for posting the interview... good info

So you agree Caribou Lou should be the next video?
Thats what I was about to ask... he wrote an essay talking about marketing and pleasing the MTV crowd. The truth is it's always a gamble picking a single that you think will blow up. Welcome to the midwest is on of the best song on Everready...most of you would agree right? Twista isn't even relevant right now and his latest album is his worst. Mainly because Atlantic made him dumb down his lyrics, and flow for some cheesy boom boom clap club anthem. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GiANAawjpCM

The same thing happend with Bone Thugs, they come out with I tried and it's successful(mainly because of Akon). Then they follow that up with the worst song on there album. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxSzZWDr1HM because it's a cheesy pop record featuring Mariah Carey and Bow Wow, interscope pushed it as the next single. What happens? the shit tanks. It also happened when they were with ruthless. After crossroads blew up all ruthless wanted to push was crossroads sounding shit(If I could teach the world, change the world,Look into my eyes etc)

Tech tried with the commercial sounding singles before(slacker, bout to bubble, and imma tell to a certain extent) it's time for him to take a gamble and not play it safe. I thought Tech and strange music was all about being creative and different? To get notice you have to be different, if not he'll just be another nigga rapping about the same shit everybody else is.

I agree with you, on most artist had to know someone already in the game to get there foot in the door.

Bone - Eazy E
Biggie - Diddy
Twista - Didn't blow up until he got with Kanye
PAC - Digital Undergroud

the list goes on and on

haha.... off the top my essay was a waste of time.
Also, I enjoy the fuck out of welcome to the midwest.
as far as pleasing the mtv crowd.... I don't even know who the mtv crowd is anymore  Is the majority of mtv's audience highschool kids or do they have a large following of people over 18? or what... anyone know?

MTV fell off when YO mtv raps got cancelled... haha
