Thats what I was about to ask... he wrote an essay talking about marketing and pleasing the MTV crowd. The truth is it's always a gamble picking a single that you think will blow up. Welcome to the midwest is on of the best song on Everready...most of you would agree right? Twista isn't even relevant right now and his latest album is his worst. Mainly because Atlantic made him dumb down his lyrics, and flow for some cheesy boom boom clap club anthem. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GiANAawjpCM

The same thing happend with Bone Thugs, they come out with I tried and it's successful(mainly because of Akon). Then they follow that up with the worst song on there album. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxSzZWDr1HM because it's a cheesy pop record featuring Mariah Carey and Bow Wow, interscope pushed it as the next single. What happens? the shit tanks. It also happened when they were with ruthless. After crossroads blew up all ruthless wanted to push was crossroads sounding shit(If I could teach the world, change the world,Look into my eyes etc)

Tech tried with the commercial sounding singles before(slacker, bout to bubble, and imma tell to a certain extent) it's time for him to take a gamble and not play it safe. I thought Tech and strange music was all about being creative and different? To get notice you have to be different, if not he'll just be another nigga rapping about the same shit everybody else is.

I agree with you, on most artist had to know someone already in the game to get there foot in the door.

Bone - Eazy E
Biggie - Diddy
Twista - Didn't blow up until he got with Kanye
PAC - Digital Undergroud

the list goes on and on
That's all I want. All I said was, Welcome to Midwest is a dope song and its different, and if MTV is asking for a video for it how do you turn that around and lean towards another club song that won't get pushed. I never said Welcome to Midwest would be the best choice out of the whole album but with that given oppertunity it doesn't seem to bad, especially if you're going to completely turn that down and go with a higher risk video.

I agree, but the more I think about it it seems Tech will never blow up anyway. Hip-Hop is the only genre of music that looks down on rappers over 30. Jay-Z and Eminem seem like the only old cats that gets a pass and thats mainly because they're already house hold names. Tech is still an underground phenomenon but if he was between the ages of 18 and 25 he would probably have a better chance at blowing up right now. On the other hand Tech is bigger than just rap music, so maybe he'll blow up with the whole kabosh project? Regardless he still makes enough money to support himself and his family and thats the most important thing other than the music itself.

Now that I think about it, it seems like MTV is more bent on keepin Tech off the radio than actually helping him out and giving him exposure, I mean, think about it. Most of us can probably agree that Welcome To The Midwest is a horrible song for radio play (not saying that the song itself is bad, I love it), due to the fact that 13-16 year olds won't bump it and that it's not a dance song, yet they insisted on doing a video for it. Then look at what they did with his Super Sweet 16 performance. Completely cut it off. I say fuck MTV, and in response to Cyrus's question, MTV IS viewed by mostly kids 18 and below. Come on now, who do you think watches that "reality show" bullshit? Younger people or older people? FUCK MTV.

I think MTV is a complete bitch and all but you don't actually think just because of the Sweet 16 incident that MTV has got it out for Tech. You're making it seem like they've made Tech one of their targets and see him as too much of a threat that they have to plot on taking him down. MTV just makes bitchass decisions as its "a safer business move" sometimes, but I don't think they put out some time to devise a reverse psychology, video recommendation to take out the nina. If MTV was a completely anti-Tech evil cooperation, playing the "horrible song for radioplay" on their channel wouldn't it be against their ethics?

Oh yeah p.s. The Sweet 16 shit was blown out of proportion.

MTV is just scared about what might happen if they turn the n9ne loose on these kids. Hahaha... for real I can see the mtv exec's sweatin that shit... what if he flips his tongue at the crowd... or announces today's performance was sponsored by extacy. HAHAHA fuckin pussies.

Times have changed but it's still the same....

Elvis was only shown from the waist up on tv because of the way he would gyrate his hips.

Ed Sullivan put jim morrison on tv after telling him to change the song to say "girl we couldn't get much better". But when the show went live shit got real... girl we couldn't get much HIGHER... hahaha.. Ed then proceeded to mitch up and not shake hands tellin the band they would never play the ed sullivan show again

Mr Mojo Risin said... Hey, man, so what, we just did the Sullivan show!

Hahaha... that's the type of shit those bitch ass execs lose sleep over.

It's the same type of shit it's just happening now.

I don't think it's so much that MTV came up with a "plot on taking him down", I think it's more of getting him out of their hair ya know. There's gotta be a lot of Tech fans out there that wanna see Nina on TV as much as we do, I mean come on, there's forums such as this one on the subject, so you can't say that the topic isn't out in the air. It's possible that fans could have pushed Tech into their ears, and it's not what they wanted to hear, so it's very possible that they tried to get his ass capped. I mean, think about it.

What's gonna happen if they put someone like Tech on the radio and kids start listening?? That's Nina raising the bar on what needs to be played on the radio, and if that happens, MTV and the record execs lose hella money because of the lack of play and loss of listeners due to listeners wanting to hear more QUALITY MUSIC. Maybe I'm going a little too far, but that's exactly what Tech wants. And the execs won't be having that shit fuck up their paper, so they're gonna try to keep his ass from bein heard. Sure, there's no denying that they have better shit to do, but there's also no denying Tech is a threat to these motherfuckers, and with the F.T.I. campaign and him getting played, people's eyes and ears can open up. And that would start puttin money in the pockets of the real artists, and not in the record execs and little untalented teenagers that know nothing about music. Which is something that execs DO NOT want. :knockout:

I understand what you guys are saying cuz that's shit I say sometimes too. Tech is one hell of a different character to be accepted in the mainstream. I just think that's real optimistic thinking expecting that big of a revolution from Tech. And I dunno, blaming MTV and calling them pussies sometimes is a lot easier to do when Tech gets screwed.

WHAT????? No...people should have been way more pissed about that then they were if you ask me. They straight punked him on that one right there man! A blunt, in-your-face, punk ass move by a corporation who is too scared to step outside the lines.
Let's take a second to break it down...
What does MTV stand for? Music Television right? So how much music do we actually see on MTV these days........ALMOST NONE! WHY? Because reality TV is the "IN thing" right now and they just want to capitalize! They don't care about the music man...they care about getting paid and gaining viewers. Anything that could possibly be damaging to that model and success is going to be outcasted from the "MTV family"!
So MTV see's that Tech is WAY to big now to deny...so they fuck with him on some cool shit....ON THE DOWN LOW, and then realize that he's a threat to their safe little world of lame ass TV. So what do they do??? Mid deal they just CUT HIM OFF?
C'mon man! I'm glad that Tech is the kind of cat who would die before compromising his content to sell out to the likes of MTV! But that was just plain old punk shit...bottom line!

THERE IS NO "MTV" ANYMORE!
It's the tweenage soap network!

Well if Tech is who I and everyone of his fans thinks he is, he's not gonna let a chance to revolutionize the industry pass him up, he just probably knew that Welcome To The Midwest wasn't gonna be the song that was gonna get him in. Tech isn't stupid. He knows that kids who don't know of him and listen to that "Pop, Lock, And Drop It" shit are gonna look at that song and say "what the fuck?". Thus the fact that he turned down the video. And Tech can turn that industry around. Look at how big of an influence he has on our music. And I'm sure we all discovered Tech by hearing about him from a friend or just hearing his music. So imagine what would happen with influence from radio stations and music videos. Sure, there'll be a lot of haters, but if kids will listen to Paul Wall and David Banner, why shouldn't they listen to an artist with a lot more energy, substance, and charisma? The man is a veteran and he knows what the fuck he's doing, and a lot of other rappers are like that, but most of them are too busy enjoying their spot in the limelight to try to turn shit around. They fear that they'll lose their spot on top of the game and have nothing to go back to. I personally think that Tech won't be like that, primarily because he has fans that'll stay fans, no matter if he's on the radio or not, so he always has his fans to return to in case anything happens. I think he would try to change some shit, maybe not as much as he wants, but if given the chance, he would do what he could. They say money changes people. I've not seen a slight change in the Nina.

MTV hasn't been about the music for a real long time man. And comeon, when it as said on this forum that Tech was going to be on that MTV Show who actually thought they were going to see significant footage of Tech? As Tech fans of course we'd like that and would probably sit through a show we'd normally hate on, to see a few seconds, which if he did get showed, among with most other artists, a few seconds is all he'd get.

oh yeah, I don't want anybody here to translate my posts as somebody just trying to go up against Tech or anything, I'm just trying to bring an unbias side to things
