yeah, pac's face was bruised and his ear was fucked up. Isn't that even more impressive though?? That shows he took cotto's best shots and walked through them. He was willing to take punishment in order to dish out his own. Like in the video Pac said he wanted to fight toe to toe and prove that he's the stronger man.

As far as Pac vs PBF, I don't care what anyone says it's IMPOSSIBLE to predict the outcome for the simple fact that Pac has NEVER fought anyone like Mayweather and Mayweather has NEVER fought anyone like Pac. There is no way to measure it. So you can say that mayweather has an advantage here or there and Pac has an advantage here or there, but that's it. The only way to know who would win is if they fight. I wouldn't bet on the fight one way or another for that reason.

Mayweather has way to good of a defense, Manny doenst have much of a shot against Mayweather. Its funny that folks think otherwise just cuz Manny has beaten fighters that arent all around great fighter like Mayweather
Interesting statement in bold because Mayweather has never beaten anyone as good as Pacquiao either. They are both two very special fighters, and there simply aren't any guys like them in the game. Mayweather may very well beat pacquiao, but again it's pretty difficult to say who will win since we have no way of measuring how well they have done against similar style fighters (because again, there isn't a single guy on Mayweathers resume like Pacquiao and vice versa).

Just got back from Vegas..

Friday at the weigh in, was bananas...there were people lined up at 9am (doors opened up at 1pm)...and I initially thought that it would be a mostly Pacquiao crowd.

Boy was I wrong.

I'm not gonna lie...the Cotto fans were way louder, and it was about even in terms of supporters.

Funny, but Yuri Foreman was actually staying across the hall from us at the MGM. Really cool guy...and he fought a smart fight and picked up a nice win over Santos.

So...as far as the fight goes...the thing that shocked me most was Manny's ability to take Cotto's shots. Say what you want about how the Margarito fight affected Cotto mentally, and what not...but one thing that is certain is that a fighter's power is something that hardly ever changes...

Cotto has some very heavy hands, and wasn't even able to dent Manny once. I think at about the 8th round is when Cotto switched to survival mode.

This is where I think the ghost of Margarito may have affected him. The styles were different, but the punishment he was taking had to give him flashbacks of that fight. Ending the fight on his feet seemed to be enough for him after that point.

Honestly, Joe Santiago needs to be replaced IMO, as its his responsibility above anyone else's to protect his fighter. The fight should have been stopped in the 10th round.

I'm a long time Cotto fan, and even more of one after the way he took his L.

Unbelievable performance by Manny, and I don't think anyone can argue the fact that he is hands down, without a doubt the P4P King of boxing right now.

This was his most impressive win over an opponent who IMO, is one of the top 5 or 6 best fighters P4P on the planet.

Philippines celebrate Pacquiao despite disasters

MANILA, Philippines (AP)—Filipinos erupted into deafening cheers in bars, gymnasiums and army camps Sunday as Manny Pacquiao—their boxing hero— relentlessly pounded Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto to win his seventh title in as many weight classes.

Pacquiao took the WBO welterweight crown from Cotto in Las Vegas on Saturday night when the referee stopped the fight in the 12th round.

The victory, which followed Pacquiao’s stunning second-round knock out of Ricky Hatton in May, gave a morale boost to the country. The Philippines has been wracked by terrorism, Muslim and communist rebellions and recent back-to-back storms that caused the worst flooding in and around the capital in more than four decades.

“It was like a small respite for my townmates and it created a spirit of bonding and a little rest after the series of storms,” said Mayor Joric Gacula of lakeside Taytay township, which was inundated in the September floods.

He said he paid 72,000 pesos (about $1,500) in pay-per-view from his own pocket to show the fight to more than 2,500 residents, mostly flood victims, who packed the town gymnasium.

“The people were very excited. It was like they were not affected by the storm,” he said.

The crowd watched the bout as they munched on biscuits—food aid from the World Food Program—and peanuts, which they washed down with bottled water donated by a mall owner.

Gelyn Cruz said her husband, a motorcycle taxi driver, left for work before dawn so they could watch the fight with their 4-year-old son and neighbors.

“I am really very happy because our idol won again,” she said. “I hope he could visit our town so he could help us.”

From Singapore where she is attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo said Pacquiao’s victory showed that “Filipino grit and determination triumphed over great odds.”

At the Manila bayside international Christmas bazaar, shoppers cheered after a woman made “a very important announcement” over the public address system that Pacquiao had won.

In Zamboanga city, which is at the front line of anti-terror campaign in the volatile southern Mindanao region, people packed roadside canteens chanting “Manny, Manny!” as Pacquiao pummeled Cotto. Many were motorcycle taxi drivers and vendors who emptied the streets during the fight.

Driver Domingo Angeles said he stopped plying his route to just watch the match.

“I wish there would be many more like him who will bring honor to us, and I hope Manny will be able to help the poor people of Mindanao,” Angeles said.

In northern Baguio city, which was hit by massive landslides and floods by another storm in early October, one collector had to return 200,000 pesos ($8,400) to bettors because not one placed a wager on Cotto.

Southern Davao city’s streets were virtually deserted and Mayor Rodrigo Duterte canceled his regular radio program to watch the fight.

Soldiers also took a rest from chasing rebels to watch in camp gyms. Muslim and communist rebels have said they also watched Pacquiao’s previous fights but there was no immediate word from them.

At Manila’s suburban armed forces headquarters, Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro and his son took the front seats at the army gym to watch the fight with thousands of officers and soldiers and their family members.

“That’s what I call a war,” Teodoro said after the fight. “The tenacity of Manny Pacquiao is really admirable.”

The Rev. Michael Sinnott, the 79-year-old Irish missionary priest who was recently released from a month of jungle captivity in the south by suspected Muslim rebels, said his kidnappers had been eager to set him free because they wanted to also watch the Pacquio-Cotto match.

“‘Your freedom is our freedom. We don’t want to be here for a long time, too, and we want to watch Pacquiao’s fight,”’ Sinnott told the CBCPNews, the news service of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), quoting his kidnappers.

very true statement,
however i dont think pacman will set the pac at any point in the fight, there both very good at what they do yes i just see floyd doing as he always does, striking like a cobra, i dont look at any of the past fights either fighter had in the last year, all the fighters were past there prime dlh, hatton and cotto was not ready for prime time , if floyed or pacman went against dlh on his prime the both would be knocked out in 3-4 rounds

its going to be one of the best fights in the last 25 years that i can remember, pride vs a nation should be nice , ill be in the phil when it goes down

He probably would, but at the same time that could be bad for maweather, that is if he's just "striking like a cobra" aka pot shotting and NOT throwing combination punches (not even against marquez did he throw combo's, just one or two punches at a time), the judges could go against him if he's throwing single shots here and there while pac is throwing flurries often. Pacquiao might have the style and speed to force mayweather to actually fight, and that's something maywether does not like to do. It would be interesting to see how floyd would deal with pac's in & out style and punching in volume from all angles. That shoulder roll defense might only work for the first couple punches, but what about the 3rd 4th 5th and 6th punches? Maybe some of those get through Floyd's guard, who knows. Then again, maybe they wont and floyd makes him look foolish.

I think cotto was definitely in his prime, dude is 28 years old. Sure he had some wars, but he most competitive with pac for the first three rounds but pac was simply better.

But really, none of either fighters last fights mean much going into it because none of those guys fight like mayweather or pacquiao.

its going to be one of the best fights in the last 25 years that i can remember, pride vs a nation should be nice , ill be in the phil when it goes down
Agreed. Quite possibly the biggest fight since Leonard vs Hagler.

I GOT FLOYD OVER PACMAN ANY DAY, IF IT GOES THE DISTANCE PAC MAY HAVE A CHANCE, BUT I DONT THINK SO, WE WILL SEE THESE TWO FIGHT ATLEAST TWICE
i think the opposite if it goes the distance mayweather will have a chance to win with his pitty pat style and scoring a deciscion. he is definately not at his best when being pressured and manny will bring that pressure. pressure makes pipes bust and that's what i see happenin.

2-0 i forgot to say after your post even though i agree with most of what your saying theres the Marquez factor, Mayweather dominated a fighter that Manny had tons of problems with and most boxing experts thing Marquez won that 2nd fight

Ya well i think Marquez would out box him again if they fought a 3rd time
i would like to see a 3rd fight...i think marquez is a good match up for pacquaio. but if marquez were to move up to welterweight he goin nighty night. pacquaio is too damn strong in these heavier weights and just keeps improving his overall skills. `
