Wolak vs Rodriguez Rematch in Play For Cotto-Margarito
By Ryan Burton
BoxingScene.com has been advised that a rematch between junior middleweights Pawel Wolak and Delvin Rodriguez is 99% complete. Wolak and Rodriguez battled to a draw this past July in a fight that many are calling the favorite to win "Fight of the Year" honors.
The rematch will take place on the televised undercard of the Miguel Cotto-Antonio Margarito pay-per view-event that takes place on December 3rd at Madison Square Garden in New York.
According to my sources the winner of this fight has an excellent chance at landing a fight versus the Cotto-Margarito winner, with the loser possibly facing the loser of the Cotto-Margarito fight. If the fight is remotely close to as good as the first one, there is also a chance of a trilogy bout.
Wolak has appeared on BoxingScene numerous times trying to landing fights against IBF junior middleweight champion Cornelius "K9" Bundrage, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and Julio Cesar Chavez with no success.
Wolak and Rodriguez both received national notoriety after the first fight which was aired and subsequently replayed on ESPN2. Demand for a rematch has been a hot topic amongst boxing fans for months following the fight. With a title shot not available for Wolak, the rematch against Rodriguez became the best available option.
