Add Magic Johnson voice to fellow Hall of Famer Michael Jordan's: Neither ever thought of combining forces the way LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh did earlier this month with the Miami Heat.

"We didn't think about it cause that's not what we were about," Johnson said at Baruch College in New York, according to Bloomberg News. "From college, I was trying to figure out how to beat Larry Bird."

Johnson added on Tuesday: "It was never a question in our mind because nobody has ever done that."

Athletes are friends now. Imagine Bird, Jordan or somebody like Reggie Miller playin now and talkin shit like they were. They would get looked at negatively. Ron Artest can't show his real emotion or he'll get labeled as all kind of shit. If Kobe talked down to his teammates like MJ did then it would be the end of the world. It's stupid.

shaq didn't leave to go play with hakeem after he got schooled, he went to a team with some skinny punk kid named kobe bryant, that couldn't even crack the starting lineup. shaq left because orlando wouldn't give him a bigger contract than some other center that had just got a huge deal. I think it was juwan howard. shaq actually wanted to stay in orlando, but they didn't want to pay out a few more grand.

speaking of larry bird, here's a quote from him:

"I remember back in my days, I'd rather play against Earvin Johnson than play with him," he said. "I know he's a great player and you always want to play with the best but I just loved to compete against him. He's a guy I always compared myself to. I'd rather stay in Boston and let him stay in L.A. and just compete every year in the Finals. That's what made me a better player. It would've been too easy if we played together."
