Victor Ortiz Shreds Floyd: Old Man Mayweather is Done!

By Chris LaBate

WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz (29-2-2, 22KOs) has promised to punish Floyd Mayweather Jr. (41-0, 25KOs) on September 17th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Ortiz vowed "he's done." It will be Mayweather's first fight since since beating Shane Mosley by unanimous decision in May of 2010. Ortiz, 10 years younger at 24, won the title in April with a twelve round decision over previously undefeated Andre Berto

"He can't adjust to me," Ortiz said. "I don't care what he brings. He's done. He was done when he signed to fight Victor Ortiz. Everything will be told September 17 when a man's career ends and another man's career begins. I will bring a cane for the old man so his back won't hurt too much."

Ortiz doesn't want an "old" Mayweather. He wants the best Mayweather possible in September.

"I want the actual Floyd Mayweather to show up," Ortiz said. "I don't want one that has lost speed or lost power. He's got that beautiful mouth of his. I want the best Floyd Mayweather to show up. My only thing is 'Floyd Who?'. He's overdue. He's not supposed to be a 147-pounder. He knows that."

"Floyd is a good fighter but I've always thought he wasn't great. I'm not impressed and I'm not going to hold any respect like his 41 victims. Those fighters he fought, none of them were me. Somebody is in trouble. It's not what I think I can do. It's what I know I can do."

I love the shit talking it makes the fight so much more fun..

LOL

man I am just hype as fuck about this fight. I just want a good fight. No ducking and dodging each other. Floyd won't admit it but he is afraid of Ortiz's power. And Ortiz won't admit it but he is afraid of Mayweathers ability and speed.

Just give us a GREAT fight.

I'm with you on that one. I want to see two fighters actually fight in the ring and not thru the media. Ortiz looks like he's in great shape and Mayweather is always in good shape. So on the 17th it's going to be on.

Ortiz: Mayweather is Not as Good as You Think He Is

By Michael Marley

“He's got that beautiful mouth of his that never stops.”

That was Vicious Victor Ortiz, speaking to the media and answering a question as to whether he watched both his and Floyd Mayweather's portions of the HBO 24/7 program which first aired Saturday night.

Naturally, people were wondering whether Ortiz, who was abandoned by both his mother and father, saw the X-rated verbal bashing of Floyd Sr. by his undefeated son.

All I can say is, that if WBC welterweight champ Ortiz can duck and dodge Mayweather's shots the way he avoided directly answering this inquiry, he will do well in the ring in Las Vegas against Mr. Forty One And Zero on Sept. 17.

The final answer was no, he didn't watch Floyd's diatribe in which Mayweather called his father “a cab driver” as a pro boxer and “a bum” as a trainer.

But what made it thought-provoking was the different ways the brash, 24 year old, looking at a $2.5 million paynight and essentially with nothing to lose except his green and gold title belt, responded.

Instead of watching Mayweather's flapping lips, the conqueror of then unbeaten Andre Berto said, he “enjoyed my day...watched the sun set...was outside lounging...looking at some big waves.”

Then, Ortiz tossed in some humor to his stream of consciousness on the topic.

“After ending the (Mayweather's 41-0 mark) streak, it's on my to do list,” Ortiz said.

“Me, I don't care...Floyd who? I don't think he is as good as he thinks he is or how good you guys think he is. He is just a careful boxer."

Make no mistake, Ortiz is very much a mental fighter. If he needed a cerebreal boost to shock Berto, he got it when Berto repeatedly demeaned him including when they were face to face.

“Those 41 other fighters (actually 40 since Floyd fought Jose Luis Castillo twice), well, none of them were me,” Ortiz said. “So someone is in trouble.”

Giving emotional support to Ortiz's grandiose dream was promoter Oscar de la Hoya. He couldn't beat Mayweather but he stated the obvious, that he thinks that his Golden Boy wunderkind will accomplish the mighty feat.

“Victor is a smart guy, he is going to do what he has to do to win the fight,” de la Hoya said. “Put it this way, there is no doubt in my mind that he is going to win. He's got 24 year old legs...he moves like a cat....people will be very shocked.”

As for his situation, having struck it moderately rich and standing on the verge of becoming a millionaire after being dumped by his parents, that was summed up by Ortiz when he spoke to a hometown reporter from Garden City, Kansas, where he survived some rough years.

Ortiz was talking about HBO 24/7 footage which showed scenes from the place where he lived before relocating to Oxnard and then to Ventura on the Southern California coast.

“I walked around home (dreaming of) a better tomorrow...It's all kind of nuts, it is all kind of unreal.”

To hear Ortiz tell it, his whipping of Mayweather will just be the beginning of major accomplishments in the ring.

“I will go on,” Ortiz said, “to taking over the division, then taking over the world.”

World domination.

That's what Ortiz is shooting for.

Shocking Mayweather, shocking the world, that's just one battle.

Ortiz is talking a lot of shit. I hope he begins his A game, because if you had trouble with Lamont Petersons boxing skills, Mayweather's boxing skills are on a whole another level..

the hype behind Ortiz is incredible considering his biggest claim to fame is beating Andre Berto in what was then the biggest fight of his career.....not taking anything away, i know he has skills in the ring, but i think its a wrap for him.....Mayweather is too disciplined in the ring. he is also extremely smart and knows how to fight his fight, thats why he's undefeated.

Ortiz has potential but im surprised so many think he is going to win this fight, let alone KO Mayweather.....the only way he wins is if Floyd has a bad night AND Ortiz turns out to be just as good or better than his hype machine.....thats the only way.....

I agree as far as pressure goes (hatton vs floyd round 1-6) but as far as throwing punches in bunches go, im not too sure that would benefit Ortiz as much as u think! he doesn't throw very smart (ortiz vs. berto) so i think floyd will capatilize on ortiz' very open style. off topic, why is ortiz sparring with a 19 yr old kid?

Anyone catch the first 24/7 on this? Garden city, victors home town is an hour away from mine. The area he from really is extreme poverty and gang and drug ridden. Some people probly doubting his past cause he from Kansas.

Mayweather will have way more stamina I think, he walks around at 147, Victor will be drained I think and it might result in him getting sloppy and floyd knocking him out. Berto had similar problems with getting gassed in that last fight because these guys (Ortiz and Berto) are pretty damn big for being welterweights
