Will it always be Mayweather's fault?

By Robert Jackson: Despite the so called ‘gag’ order many of the terms of the negotiations seem to be leaking out. These leaks seems to disparage Mayweather’s positions towards making the big fight scheduled for the fall 2010. Top Rank Boss Bob Arum and GBP CEO Richard Schaefer proclaimed a media blackout for the making of this fight citing “we don’t want to negotiate in the media”. A few weeks ago it was announced by some unnamed Team Pacquiao members that Pacquiao had agreed to a 14 day cutoff for blood testing, followed up by a corroboration by the Top Rank boss who said “The ball was now in Mayweather’s court”. No response was given or heard from Team Mayweather who seemed to be honoring the ‘gag’ order..

The next leak that occurred a few weeks or so later said that Mayweather was demanding a 60/40 split, this has since been corroborated by Pacquiao himself who has said he will not allow anything other than a 50/50 split. Mayweather has been mum.

2 weeks ago during a ‘Make-a-Wish’ event Floyd Mayweather Jr. during a media interview session said he may take a couple of years off from boxing. Top Rank Boss Arum, responded by saying that if that is the case he would wait until the official announcement was made, and that Mayweather should make such a announcement if it was his intention not to fight again this year.

Mayweather naysayers IMMEDIATELY jumped on the Mayweather interview as PROOF that Mayweather is afraid of and DOESN’T want to fight Pacquiao. Those SAME naysayers took Floyd’s words one step further and accused him of violating the ‘GAG’ order by saying them.

Just this week Pacquiao has said he won’t budge to any more of Mayweather’s demands, and further pressed his position that Mayweather is afraid to fight him. And again Team Mayweather SILENT.

Many of the SAME critics and naysayers who commended Lil’ Floyd for his dismantling of Shane Mosley – a fighter they SAID Floyd would NEVER fight, are back at it again, back at the HATING!! Many of those SAME critics and naysayers FAIL to see that through ALL of these current negotiations ONLY ONE side has consistently VIOLATED the agreed upon ‘GAG’ order – TEAM PACQUIAO!!

Many of these SAME critics and naysayers donot see that the dynamics of the NEGOTIATIONS have swayed favorably in Lil’ Floyds direction. These same HATERS conveniently like to compare Pacquiao/Cotto PPV numbers to Mayweather/Mosley PPV numbers – dismissing the dismal PPV numbers of Pacquiao/Clottey to MAKE a case in Pacquiao’s favor. Those SAME HATERS will also compare Pacquiao/Cotto PPV numbers to Mayweather/Marquez PPV numbers!! These same HATERS fail to QUESTION Pacquiao’s motives since he NOW has agreed to a 14 day cutoff for current drug testing; if he can do it now, WHY DIDN’T he do it for the PREVIOUS negotiations??

Mayweather has said previous to the ‘GAG’ order that a 14 day cutoff was FOR the LAST NEGOTIATIONS, for these NEGOTIATIONS, random blood testing up to and including the day of the fight would be par for the course. Mayweather also said that if the PPV numbers for Mayweather/Mosley were big enough compared to Pacquiao/Clottey a 50/50 split would not be possible, the PPV numbers WERE 2 – times those of Pacquiao/Clottey and the total revenue dwarfed that of Pacquiao/Clottey!

Jeff Mayweather Uncle of the P4P Picasso, said it clearly recently, that if this fight falls through it will not be his nephews fault, the fault should be placed squarely on Pacquiao’s shoulders. So I ask, “Will it always be Mayweather’s fault??”

^^is that a blog?

I don't know man, from what I'm hearing everything has been agreed upon including the drug tests but the money split at this point. Pac wants 50/50 and Floyd 60/40. Either way is fine to me but I think it's faulty logic to compare floyds PPV numbers from Floyd vs Mosley to Pac vs Clottey, as Mosley is a big name in boxing and Clottey is a virtual unknown. I think it makes more sense to compare the PPV numbers of Pac vs Cotto (who is as big as a name as mosley) rather than clottey. If floyd fought clottey (or nate campbell who was the runner up until shane became available due to haiti earthquake) it wouldn't have broke 1 million buys.

On top of the numbers though is the fact that the world wants to see Pac vs Floyd. They can only generate this kind of money against eachother, so in that sense it should be 50/50 as they would BOTH be the draws. Or better yet 60-40 to the winner.

If the PPVs swung Pac Man's way, he would want the same 60/40 split, and the logic you just said would remain, they are both draws. So it is fair for Floyd to take the bigger cut. It's only a 10 percent difference, it's more principle than dollar value

I think his main point of the story is who should be held accountable for leaks and breaking the gag order while everyone put the blame on Floyd, especially if negotiations break down. And clearly that is Top Rank and Team Pacquiao

both sides have broken the gag order. The following people have spoken about the negotiations:

Oscar de la hoya (Golden Boy)
Floyd Mayweather Jr. (Golden Boy)
Floyd Mayweather Sr.
Jeff Mayweather

Manny Pacquiao (top rank)
Bob Arum (top rank)

Yep, and he stated that Floyd himself spoke in that article, but we know he wasn't the first to say a word, but we do know who started it. You can hide the fact that Arum and his camp did that. And if they didn't honor the secrecy, of course Floyd had a right to speak, In the end, yall know how this is gonna play out

huh? Mayweather Sr. was talking from the start and bob arum was unusually very tight lipped at that same period of time, the only thing he was quoted was saying was "I'm happy with the progress" and wouldn't reveal any info.

As far as I know, the first person to talk from pacquiao's side was one of his advisers, not bob arum, pac or anyone from top rank. Some adviser quoted in a Philippines newspaper.

Regardless of who said something first, I still think these negotiations are going much better than the last time around. They aren't using the media to talk trash about the other side much at all, which is a positive thing. I'm still optimistic. If the drug testing has been agreed upon I think they can reach terms on the money. One theory is that top rank wants at 55/45 split (in favor of floyd) and are saying this 50/50 talk in order for floyd to budge from 60/40 that he initially wanted. I think that would be fair.

Mayweather-Pacquiao Talks Complete: Floyd's Nod Needed

By Mark Vester

Top Rank CEO Bob Arum informed Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports that the negotiations to make a November bout between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao - are complete. Arum did not specify the details but he said all of the existing issues have been resolved and that includes the two main issues - a random drug testing protocol being involved and the split of the money between both fighters.

The final proposal has been sent to Mayweather for his approval. Both sides, Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions, will wait to see if Mayweather approves the proposal, or turns it down. If Mayweather turns it down, Arum will move forward on November 13 with a new opponent - either Antonio Margarito or Miguel Cotto.

“I think the only question is whether Mayweather is prepared to fight now,” Arum said. “He may say he’s had his fight for the year and that’s it and that we’ll address it again next year. He might say that. I don’t know. I don’t know. But that’s what I’m hypothesizing.

“The question is whether Mayweather is willing to go into the ring this year. It’s up to him. His people would love him to do it. He may not want to do it. If Mayweather wants to fight in November, I believe the fight will be made. To me it seems – it seems, and say that, because I’m not Mayweather – that the only issue is whether he wants to fight in November.”
