Labels dont make the amount of money that they used to. Signing someone with a buzz is a lot cheaper overall than signing a nobody and building up their buzz. Marketing can take millions of dollars, but if the people already know and love an artist then its a lot easier and cheaper to get a new project heard.
That is why the industry is going to fuck itself and die.

i think it's hella funny when people get to that age and that phase and think they're like putting on a cape and becoming a crusader for meaningful music. meaningful music nobody wanna hear is meaningless music.

Ok so all the "young" people that think this shit is wack, what are they? Out of touch? I've met a gang of young cats now who listen to nothing but older rap music because shit is so damn wack right now. Getting older really has nothing to do with it. shit has changed for the worse. Not sure how old you are but KMEL of 15 years ago played so much variety of different artists, local or otherwise than the BS 10 song rotation they do now it's not even funny.

the thing is, music is just more disposable now because it moves at a faster rate of deteriorating, and as a listener, thats a good thing. its going to force people to make great albums.

thats gonna be the only thing thatll stick when the memory flushes itself of temporary memory after 6 months or so.

at the end of the year, can that album be played again?

if not...join the graveyard where many albums rest

we may just need more graveyards now, and since its in the internet, you probably only are aware of the extent of the graveyards of music on here. these things will eventually either reach rarirty due to technology or theyll stick as classic albums, people will mention 10 years from now like "that shit was dope, though"

but theres alot of music on the net
and if you arent a hater youll give anyone a chance

when i was doing radio you would be suprised how many people just want to make it in music, thats they dream, dont tell them how stupid of a fucking dream it is, to get raped by a major, plus they might dont got it, they just have a vision and they see theirselves there. i try not to get in the way of peoples dreams- ill help if i can. i felt the same way about crazie locs, and its the same about this shit too. if this is what they really wanna do, fuck it. unless im taxed at the end of the year by kreyshawn dropping an album on my income tax i dont really care much. the shits like saying to me 'yo im bout to jump this gorge on my bart simpson bike with a cape' ill be like....aiight...and well see how successful it is...if you pull it off ill clap otherwise it was fun to watch, might have sucked for you but you made it public so it became interesting...if kreyshawn does end up a crackhead or some hacker pulls up dirt on them that makes us all laugh...was it worth it? maybe to that person.

i dunno im high and editing too much fuck it....

Well, one would think. However, i wouldst say the quality is any better now than it was 5, 10, or 15 years ago. However, that is completely and 100% subjective.

True, but that has zero to do with what you are referring to in terms of WHY they are crumbling.
Actually its a combination, it's easier to seek out better, unsigned artists than the crap that's forced down the masses throat day in and day out. Combine that with the downloading etc etc it's all contributing to it. It will be better if all the major labels just fail.

I try not to hate on another person's hustle, that's just how we do down south, but let's get a few things straight:

1. This chick's race had something to do with her signing - not everything - but if she was black she's have a much harder time being put on with that wack shit.

2. This chick has little to no talent. Don't confuse hype with talent. She's marketable, she has made an image and apparently has convinced some people she can sell it, but her lyrics, flow, etc. are all garbage.

3. This will have no impact on the bay. I don't care if she was born in the town or just reps it or even calls her album OAKLAND - she was signed for a specific reason and the majors aren't going to flood to the bay for anyone else.

which leads to

4. She got signed because Tyler and Odd Future have been semi successful so far and some label exec was trying to get the jump on it so bounced on the latest internet act with a big amount of youtube views.

Also, I'm not believing this million dollar deal bullshit either - nothing but more hype to try to build her image.

yeah thats so subjective i wouldnt even argue it. because little kids are in their own little world growing up to music thats out however they grow up listening to right now. sometimes i watch how different aged crowds react to certain songs. shit is weird. its not about the song sometimes its just about where they were when that song was out. (i feel this way about warren g 'regulate') we werent blessed with like 20 years of rap music being made growing up (atleast i wasnt? in the 80-90's hip hop was going through hella changes as a result of being a older genre) so rap was in its experimentation stage kinda.

and with that said im one to straight up mention i didnt even like most shit i considered classic now, at one point i hated cash money and then they became one of my favorite groups 4 years later cuz i caught on late...i didnt like tupac while he was alive as a rap artist but i thought he was a dope actor....i wouldnt have said shit he was doing was classic at the time of it being done but its amazing how the forces of nature eventually depict what sticks in music...years later i cannot have the same stance on tupac because he eventually reached a urban legend status that no one but god and nastrodamus could depict happening..

we gotta watch music happen currently and wait later to see what it is...i know what you mean, like there was a specific era in which classics were getting produced, but i think that was literally based on the way we were spoon-fed.....with so much freedom in music its hard to guide yourself through whos 'dope' and whos not based on how 'hot' someone is..you gotta look versus being given it by hand as a gift like look classic album, your welcome come again

classic albums can go unnoticed in 2011

but i like that the flood gates for creativity is wide open due to this. anyone can rap now and we have to go 'oh well rap is worldwide now, its cool'

have you ever listened to world music rap? like real southern american rap..and you dont know spanish? its like...you either judge it on the fact the song slaps and you dont know wtf hes aaying and youre cool with that....or youre like ok well i dont know what the fuck this dudes talking about so i cant fuck with it cuz i dunno if he gassin or not....its like alot of people are playin on the mic and the rules are hella different....you accept the fact its a circus in rap right now or you dont ya know
