i think major labels are becoming less relevant, like others have stated in this thread, because of the changes in how people purchase music.
for a independent artist that is paying out his own pockets, paying for street teams, and magazine ads,(If u got it then thats coo but most of us struggling to press 1000 units) why wouldn't you want a promo machine behind you ?? Im sure ap-9 and pimp not going to sign a 6 album deal, so do a album with the major, use the promo that they give u, then break off independent...but I guess people dont think like that..

Dj Pimp and AP.9, I was once again woken up this morning hecka early by an A&R (don't Eastcoast companies know that the Westcoast is 3 hours behind them). It was the A&R in the Sony situation. He told me that he spoke to both of you in a conference call yesterday after I got off the phone with of you. He told me that Dj Pimp you were very professional and you put out there exactly what you wanted which he liked (I wonder who told you to do that, ha ha ha ha). He also liked being able to talk with AP.9, he really likes AP.9's personality and he told me he is doing what he has to do to make things work.
I just want to say no matter if you sign with my dude in the Sony Situation, if you sign that research situation on the side with my dude at Slip-N-Slide or even if you do find out that you want to do that Jive thing, you know what you want and AP.9 now knows what each situation wants from him and so you will be ok going in with your eyes wide open and watching all angles.
2008 will be a "BLESSED" year for our region, and I just want to personally say Thank You to yourself and AP.9 for handling yourselves in the correct way when dealing with professionals within major positions. You guys made me look good, the publication of which I work for look good and the BAY AREA look really good as businessmen whom know what they want, what it takes to record professional music and how to set themselves up for the future. Dude in the Sony situation is already talking about how he can send you and AP.9 out on Tour with one of the other acts that they have to spread his music to a further fanbase. CONGRATULATIONS!

but you know what...fuck these major labels. what we need is a hip-hop union. that way majors cant dick around with us, we all will be gettin money, and good music will be recognized. we just need people in the right spots to stand up and get this shit organized. fuck regions, lets do quality music. whether its bay, LA, east, south, midwest it dont matter. talent must be recognized.

i bet that group they speaking of is the team......
The group wasn't the Team. Both AP.9 and the "Will Not Be Named" group spoke with the labels and things didn't pan out from my talks later with the A&R's.

I didn't work either of these deals. I just put the parties into contact with one another. I charge 15% of the Signing Bonus/Advance.

Neither party had a Lawyer or Deal Shopper negociate for them. They handled the talks themselves. I would of handled either situation for 15% of the Signing Bonus/Advance or a flat fee of say $25,000.

I believe in the AP.9 situation, they just weren't talking the correct dollar figure of which the man thought he was worth. And you have to respect that and you can't ever back down from what you think your worth is. Only you as a man know what your value is.
