i think JT is gonna be emotionally shot ESPECIALLY if he gets wobbled early. I think he's gonna be so focused on a KO that he's gonna get set up again. JT cant fight at that pace either.. remember he TIRED himself out then KP came in 4 the kill

in boxing (unless ur an all time great and JT surely isnt) the best defense is a good offense. JT is gonna be worried about that over hand right so much he's not gonna be able to do his thing. Manny is gonna have to build him back from the ground up. How harder can he train than what he did? we all saw Manny break out all the stops to get JT ready and he failed.

Yep, that's true. Manny took him into isolation, to the Pocono Mountains. Breathed, ate, shit, drank, sweat and bled boxing. This is the first time EVER that one of Steward's champions had lost after training at his secluded camp in the Pocono Mountains.

I don't know if he can train any harder than that. I think it might be too soon because that KO is going to be fresh in him memory. He's going to be worried about getting hit.

If I were Steward I'd probably want him to take a "tune up" fight or two to rebuild confidence. I don't know, could be a mistake. But then again, maybe Manny feels that Taylor only needs to adjust a couple of things.

Manny knows tha JT doesnt listen well when it comes to fighting good opponents. I wouldnt be surprised if Manny doesnt really think JT has a true shot. He has a punchers chance and thats it. But like I said b4, it says something that JT was able to damn near KO Kelly T-W-I-C-E in the 2nd round, but wasnt able to even come close to duplicating that in the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th or 7th round, whereas if u watch that fight over ull see KP was on the verge of a KO atleast 1nce in every round except the 1st n 2nd. I think its all KP's to lose. What does tha say about Taylor's true ability to inflict KO damage? Lets not forget he hasnt KO'd ANYONE in a loooooooonnnngggg time and only almost got lucky. Lets play devils advocate or lemme stir things up. Lets say KP comes in with improved head movement, what then?

JT aint gonna walk thru those jabs to get to the body. Then its a repeat aaaaaaaaaaaall over

I think team Pavlik is trippin a lil after the win....getting way ahead of themselves....

Should Pavlik Beat Taylor, Bernard Hopkins Next

By Mark Vester

According to a recent interview with Top Rank president Bob Arum, if WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik (32-0, 29KOs) wins his rematch with Jermain Taylor (27-1-1, 17KOs), the next target would be a pay-per-view showdown with Bernard Hopkins (48-4-1, 32KOs) in June.

Arum told Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports that the original plan was to match Pavlik with undefeated John Duddy in January and then do a rematch with Taylor in the summer. On Monday, Taylor exercised his option for an immediate rematch with Pavlik, now the plan has changed.

A Pavlik-Taylor rematch must happen by the end of February, the next move, should Pavlik win, would be a bout with Hopkins in June at Cleveland Browns Stadium in Ohio, which seats a capacity max of 73,000 fans.

Hopkins, currently at the light heavyweight limit of 175-pounds, would never be able to make the middleweight limit of 160. Arum told Iole the bout would have to be fought somewhere in the mid-to-high 160s.

"From my standpoint, I thought an interim fight (for Pavlik) made more sense and then to go into the rematch, but Jermain had the right to ask for the immediate rematch and he has," Arum said. "The benefit for us is, we can go out and try to make an even bigger pay-per-view fight for June with Bernard. If Kelly comes out of it OK, then a fight with Hopkins at Cleveland Browns Stadium would be even bigger than a fight with Jermain."

I can see the logic as to why Pavlik would want the fight - this would certainly catapult Pavlik into mega stardom. Hopkins logic is simple too - here is a chance to beat the only guy that beat the guy that beat you (which was also the logic in fighting Winky, although that was technically a draw).

Personally I don't think it's a good move for Pavlik though - Hopkins is no Taylor - he will not get knocked out. No way, no how. He's too elusive, defense is the best in the game, even at his current age of 62. You cannot hit Hopkins flush. Without the knockout, Pavlik has little to no chance. It would be an awkward, sloppy fight. B-Hops experience in the ring gets him the decision.

The decision is in: Hall of Fame trainer Emanuel Steward is out as the trainer for former middleweight champion Jermain Taylor.

Their disappointing four-fight run together is officially over, Steward told ESPN.com on Monday.

Speculation that Steward would be replaced has run rampant since Taylor lost the middleweight title on a seventh-round knockout to Kelly Pavlik on Sept. 29.

Taylor said the move was made "three or four days ago" during a telephone conversation with Ozell Nelson, Taylor's father figure and assistant trainer. Nelson, who made the decision, is the one who hired Steward in the first place.

Jermain Taylor's loss to Kelly Pavlik, standing, all but guaranteed Emanuel Steward would be replaced.
"I talked to Ozell. We have a very good relationship, but he said he may try to [train Taylor] himself. I got no problem with that," Steward said. "If he wanted me to do it, I would do it. He said he might try to do it himself. It's not a bad decision. I'm real fine with it."

While Nelson could take over training duties on his own, a Taylor camp source told ESPN.com that there has been contact made with Pat Burns to gauge his interest in returning to train Taylor. Burns guided Taylor to a 25-0 record, the middleweight championship and both victories against Bernard Hopkins in 2005. But Nelson, whose relationship with Burns is not strong, made the decision to fire him and bring in Steward with much fanfare in the spring of 2006.

Pavlik-Taylor Rematch: Reload for Second Battle

LAS VEGAS, NEV. - The storied middleweight division has been rife with legendary rivalries. In the ‘40s Rocky Graziano had Tony Zale, in the ‘50s Sugar Ray Robinson, Carmen Basilio, and Gene Fullmer had each other and in the ‘60s Nino Benvenuti had Emile Griffith. However, for the past 40 years the middleweight division has endured a void -- great champions without great championship rivalries.

Until now.

Boxing’s two best middleweights -- undefeated world champion KELLY “THE GHOST” PAVLIK and once-defeated former world champion JERMAIN “BAD INTENTIONS” TAYLOR -- will resume their ring-war hostilities, this time at 166 pounds, when they face-off in a battle of epic proportions. Boasting a combined record of 59-1-1 (46 KOs) -- a sterling winning percentage approaching 97% and victory by knockout ratio of 78% -- the Pavlik vs. Taylor collision explodes Saturday, February 16, at MGM Grand. Promoted by Top Rank and DiBella Entertainment, the 12-round Pavlik vs.Taylor rumble will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View, beginning at 9 p.m. EST / 6 p.m. PST.

Tickets, priced at $600, $400, $300, $200, and $100, go on sale This Saturday! November 24, at 10 a.m. PST, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena box office. Tickets will also be sold at all Las Vegas Ticketmaster locations (select Smith’s Food and Drug Centers, Macy’s West at the Fashion Show Mall, and Ritmo Latino.) Ticket sales are limited to eight (8) per person. To charge by phone with a major credit card, call Ticketmaster at (702) 474-4000 or MGM Grand at (800) 929-1111. Tickets are also available for purchase at www.mgmgrand.com or www.ticketmaster.com

“I have made a career out of fighting and beating the best and this fight is no exception,” said Pavlik. “Just because I beat Jermain before doesn’t take away from the fact that he is still the best contender out there. I dedicated my entire being to training to take away his title when we fought the first time and I will do no less to make sure I win this time because that’s what it will take to beat him again.”

"You can over hype this fight, if you want, call it a career defining fight, because that's exactly what this fight is for me,” said Taylor. “This is the most important fight of my career. I'm putting it in my trainer's hands (Ozell Nelson), but I'm putting it in mine also, because I know exactly what I have to do. Ozell has been with me from the beginning, he knows the buttons to push with me that made me a world champion. We are ready to go back to work like we used to do it.”

“J.D. Power and Associates couldn’t rate a fight more dangerous than this one,” exclaimed Pavlik’s promoter Bob Arum, CEO of Top Rank. “Kelly Pavlik is Youngstown’s real-life John Henry -- a steel-drivin’ man with hammers for fists. Only Kelly’s not folklore, he’s the real McCoy. He has captured the imagination of sports fans and media worldwide. Anyone who gets into the ring not only fights Kelly, but all of Youngstown. Their first fight was a classic and boxing fans can expect no less this time.”

“Taylor-Pavlik was one of the great middleweight fights in memory and a fight that truly deserves a second go, said Lou DiBella, CEO of DiBella Entertainment, Taylor’s promoter. “I am proud to be co-promoting the rematch and I’m confident that Jermain can reverse the first result.”

"The first battle between Kelly Pavlik and Jermain Taylor became an instant classic and has fight fans still buzzing," said Mark Taffet of HBO Pay-Per-View. "The Pavlik-Taylor II rematch will undoubtedly be one of the most highly-anticipated matchups of 2008."

Pavlik (32-0, 29 KOs), from Youngstown, Ohio, joins former lightweight champions Harry Arroyo and Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini as hometown world champions. He returns to the ring after a “Fighter of the Year” performance, knocking out Jose Luis Zertuche (19-3-2, 14 KOs) and Edison Miranda (28-1, 24 KOs), in world title elimination bouts, earning him the right to become Taylor’s mandatory challenger. All told, Pavlik Ghost wrote a career year against three of the best, who boasted a combined record of 74-4-3 (55 KOs) when he faced them. Pavlik’s stoppage of Taylor extended his two-year victory by knockout streak to nine bouts.

Taylor, (27-1-1, 17 KOs), from Little Rock, Arkansas, the 2000 U.S. Olympic Bronze Medalist, captured the undisputed middleweight title in 2005 when he dethroned Bernard Hopkins, ending the defending champion’s record run of consecutive title defenses at 20 -- a run that left world champions Oscar de la Hoya, Felix Trinidad, and Glen Johnson in his wake, among others. Taylor ruled the division for nearly two years, successfully defending his title four times, all against former world champions, including Hopkins again, Winky Wright, Kassim Ouma and Cory Spinks.

The Pavlik-Taylor II pay-per-view telecast, beginning at 9 pm ET/6 pm PT, has a suggested retail price of $49.95, will be produced and distributed by HBO Pay-Per-View and will be available to more than 61 million pay-per-view homes. The telecast will be available in HD-TV for those viewers who can receive HD. HBO Pay-Per-View is the leading supplier of event programming to the pay-per-view industry. Former world champion Jermain Taylor hits a giant tire during media day at the historic Johnny Tocco's Gym. Jermain appeared full of confidence as he prepares for his highly anticipated rematch against world middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik on February 16 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on HBO Pay-Per-View. Taylor said that he did not train properly for the first fight against Pavlik. He didn't run enough or spar enough and thus ran out of gas when he could not finish Pavlik after he had him hurt in the second round. Taylor is now back with trainer Ozell Nelson and has been in Las Vegas for three weeks already. He is running five miles six days a week and has been sparring about fifteen rounds every day. His weight is already at 170lbs.

I dunno, Manny is one of the best trainers in the game but I'm thinkin maybe they just didn't click for whatever reasons. Ever since Manny was his trainer he put on nothin but sub-par performances.

I already voted for Pavlik to win by KO, but I'm kinda undecided now. Still leaning towards pavlik though......
