So the Pastor punked out...

Florida Pastor Calls Off Plan to Burn Qurans

AOL News (Sept. 9) -- A Christian pastor today canceled his controversial plan to burn copies of the Quran, saying he had received a "sign from God" when a Muslim cleric agreed to move an Islamic center planned for a site near ground zero in New York. But the cleric said there was no such deal.

Terry Jones, head of the Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, Fla., sparked an international uproar when he announced his church would burn copies of the Muslim holy book on Saturday, the ninth anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks. President Barack Obama condemned the plan and Gen. David Petraeus, the U.S. commander in Afghanistan, warned it could endanger American troops.

Jones announced this afternoon he had decided to call off the Quran burning and would instead fly to New York on Saturday to meet with the Muslim cleric who wants to build an Islamic center a few blocks from the site of the former World Trade Center.

"Our thought was the American people do not as a whole want the mosque at ground zero. If they were willing to cancel the mosque at the ground zero location or if they were willing to move that location, we would consider that a sign from God," Jones told reporters today.

"We have been in contact with the imam in New York City. I will be flying up on Saturday to meet with the imam at the ground zero mosque. He has agreed to move the location," Jones said.

Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf said in a statement that there had been no such agreement and that he had not been involved in any negotiations with the Florida preacher.

Meanwhile, real estate mogul Donald Trump said he had offered $6 million to buy the planned Park51 Islamic center -- 25 percent over the $4.8 million purchase price of the location, the New York Daily News said.

WHAT IT REALLY MEANS:

Pastor Jones mindset -"Wow, Im getting alot of attention with this, I didnt think that my good ol' US of A Government would ALSO be condemning my actions, I would hate to get murked by some speacial CIA operative like they was doing in that Enemy of the State movie...Sheesh...., they would make it look like I had an accident, or died mysteriously...I dont need that type of blood on my hands that will be created if I burn these korans, when US Soldiers overseas start to get killed, I will have to answer to these mothers, and the American people because Im an arrogant small church havin hillbilly with a biker moustache"....:cheeky:

Oh, and Toupee wearin Donny Trump need to stay the fuck out of this...

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida pastor whose plan to burn Qurans on Sept. 11 generated worldwide outrage among Muslims and pressure by the U.S. government to relent said late Thursday that he might not call off the protest after all.

Pastor Terry Jones told NBC News that "we are a little back to square one" after a supposed deal involving a proposed Islamic cultural center in New York evaporated.

At a press conference Thursday afternoon, Jones had said he was canceling the Quran burning because a Muslim imam had assured him that the proposed Islamic center could be moved away from the World Trade Center site in return.

But the imam proposing to build the Islamic center near the World Trade Center denied that a deal had been struck to move the project.

"I am glad that Pastor Jones has decided not to burn any Qurans," Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf said in a statement. "However, I have not spoken to Pastor Jones or Imam Musri (of Florida). I am surprised by their announcement. We are not going to toy with our religion or any other. Nor are we going to barter. We are here to extend our hands to build peace and harmony."

After that statement, Jones said the Quran burning had only been suspended.

"Given what we are now hearing, we are forced to rethink our decision," Jones said. "So as of right now, we are not canceling the event, but we are suspending it."

Burning a flag is symbolic and also means you oppose that particular GOVERNMENT.

Burning a holy book is disrespecting an entire religion (not government or particular sect of that said religion etc.).

You also have to factor in the relevance of timing and what is going on in the world right now. If you burned a quran 50 years ago not many people would trip. Now, while there are wars going on worldwide and there is massive amounts of oppression and brutality in many islamic dominated countries, factor all that in and yes it's quite easy to understand the sensitivity of the matter.

The flag does not only represent the government though, it represents the people that live in that country.

Why is it ok to offend one group of people and not the other? Double standards.
