How about improving the general living conditions in Mexico and by that slow down the constant flow of illegal immigration? It's not like all these people want to leave their families, because they rather work shitty jobs under severe conditions in a country filled with people who hate their guts.

How about building up a strong, competitive economy in Mexico, with US help, to create jobs in their own country, and not only rely on drug production/trafficking as their only national cash crops. It seems like a vicious circle to me, because the huge demand for drugs in America is one of the reasons why Mexico is in such a corrupted and violent state to begin with.

If Mexicans were able to put as much effort into building their own functioning and legal economy (providing a humane standard of living) as they put into drug trafficking (which they seem to be real good at), illegal immigration would be no issue anymore, because Mexicans would want to stay and work in Mexico.

Our country ensures this if you are low income. i don't want to see fucking kids starve because their parents are undocumented. or not going to the doctor for preventative shit. Do you know how much money we save dealing with undocumented workers??? I just had my pipes fixed in the front yard. Roter Rooter wanted $1500 this guy charged $500. I don't know if he was undocumented, but he was hella cheaper and I found him on craigslist. My yard man just cut down trees, fixed my water heater, installed new screens, painted etc. Hella cheaper than other people. My housekeeper Mexican. one of my baby sitters is Mexican and a family friend I don't know her immigration status. I know she teaches my kids spanish and is great with them. My grandmother washed and cleaned white folks houses to feed my mom so I would not have to. They are trying to have the same opportunity. I've worked under the table before in college. A lot of black businesses are under the table. Especially down south where we have a stronghold. If we were down south BLACK people do the same ass jobs they do in California. Under the table!!!!

Have you ever drove dirty before? Prayed the police didn't stop you and take your whip? Imagine living like that everyday, for every reason. The fear when you put your children in school. Focusing on the "illegals taking jobs" argument is almost like straw man hyperbole because it is only spotlighting one facet of the debate.

People choose to focus on that point because it is easily defended with perception rather than hard data and it lends an answer that supports their cause.

Would most Americans do the jobs that many illegals take when the arrive in the US?

However, asking that question is ignoring the REAL issue that most US citizens wouldn't do that job that illegals do - for the wages they do it.

Most Americans would do those jobs if they paid more, and they would have to pay more if there wasn't a readily available supply of cheap labor.

Illegal immigrants increase the supply of cheap labor and therefore put downward pressure on wages in the US. It's simple supply and demand economics 101. The greater the labor force relative to available to jobs, the lower the wages will be.

The abundance of cheap labor had been a large factor in minimum wage not keeping pace with inflation.

To put it in very simple terms. If I have a job opening and am offering $10 per hour and no one takes it what do I do? Increase the offer to $12 per hour.

Now if in the same situation I receive a dozen offers what do I do next time I offer the position? Decrease the offer to $8 per hour.

The supply of workers puts downward pressure on wages, which negatively impact ALL working people illegal or legal.


In addition, from a simply altruistic POV, illegal immigrants are more exploitable then legal citizens both because of a lack of support and information, so many of them end up making below minimum wage and in some cases end up in modern day indentured servitude because they don't have the protections that legal citizens enjoy.

Many big business DO NOT support immigration reform. Why do you think that is? Because illegal immigration is good for big business.
