I have a question for anyone who's played the game, and I don't know if the question is going to make sense, so glance over it a few times before you answer. This game is a 2d fighter, but does it play like a 2d fighter (street fighter) or does it play like a 2D side scroller, beat em up or action game? I don't mean in the sense that you go from side to side and stage to stage beating up multiple enemies, I'm talking about in how you input moves and how different combinations can yield different results (think God of War or DMC and how you do different combos.)
damn

i mean this is just crazy i dont even know what to think right now

this is the last time i read one of your posts while i'm high, you just twisted my mind the other way man!

it plays like a 2d fighter but there is a lot of command moves.

ie rachel's normals are
5A, 6A, 2A, 8A
5B, 4B, 6B, 8B
5C, 6C, 2C, 3C, 8C, 8 Hold C, 82C

that's more command moves then even Ibuki in SF3

when you factor in her drive some of them get pretty nuts. IE her 5C becomes 5CDC to use it properly.

Are those combos or are those her normal or special movies? If combos, you're saying the directional input determines what goes on (think of an action game) and not distance like the SF series?

Those are just her normals.

There is also 3 Hold C too.
So do the animations for the characters change according to distance or is the change brought about by button combinations and the directional pad? For example, in SF if you're playing as Ryu and you're as close as possible and press jab he'll do an elbow, but if you have some distance he'll throw a quck jab. So what I'm asking, is does the game rely on distance to really help set the combos up, or does it rely more on the direction the pad or joystick is pressed like Tekken?

oh that's usually referred to as close and far. you'll see it like (c)whatever attack or (f)whatever attack.

actually at this point I can't confirm if it does or doesn't. I'm really only familiar with Rachel's move list and she doesn't have any but I'd be willing to make an educated guess that other characters do. Simple cause in guilty gear it was like that.

i honestly havent played anything but training and local matches yet so hard to come up with a lot of thoughts.

it looks great and plays exactly how i thought it would. im pleased

im liking arakune more than i thought i would. being able to negative edge all those bugs really keep the pressure on. so trying to learn some good trapping combos with him

what button set up do you use on your stick? 4 buttons in a square or all layed out in a row?

Character Distribution thus far.

Not surprised to see less than 2% of people playing car but kind of shocked to see Arakune so low considering his position on the tier list.

i hate how you have to lose fights in order to get 100% in story mode, so annoying. have to go all the way to the end fight just to lose
