It's great that a black man could be elected, it says something about the current state of society, but it should have absolutely no barring over the way you feel about him. I think many people who just flat out wanted a black president (whether he is half-black or not), just dont care about what he ACTUALLY stands for and merely see him as "overcoming". Is that powerful in itself? I would be lying if i said "no". Jackie Robinson wasnt the BEST african-american baseball player...but he was the FIRST. Had it not been for him, there would have been no Willie Mays.

Having Obama as presdient gives hope that someday, the Willie Mays of presidency will arrive maybe?

In regards to crossing the color line and playing in the big leagues, yes that would be Robinson. First black player to play? No. Why do you assume that if it wasn't for him that Willie Mayes (or any other blacks for that matter) would have never played? If take you Robinson out of the equation, but keep the changing political/social scope that was going on at the time, it was bound to happen. In short, thanks to people getting off the bullshit (racism, segregation, discrimination), more blacks were able to play.


Anyway, forget about that. There have been plenty of people (a lot of blacks in particular) that wanted a black president. The problem is, the political and social climates at the time were not as 'depressed' as they were when BH was selected as president. Because of this, those candidates did not have as much appeal as BH does.
