Actually my little brother has them and no you're not supposed to hold them tight or restrain them at all. Look it up.

*Edit* I looked it up for you.

This is from the Epilepsy Foundation website:

When providing seizure first aid for generalized tonic clonic (grand mal) seizures, these are the key things to remember:

* Keep calm and reassure other people who may be nearby.
* Don't hold the person down or try to stop his movements.
* Time the seizure with your watch.
* Clear the area around the person of anything hard or sharp.
* Loosen ties or anything around the neck that may make breathing difficult.
* Put something flat and soft, like a folded jacket, under the head.
* Turn him or her gently onto one side. This will help keep the airway clear.
* Do not try to force the mouth open with any hard implement or with fingers. A person having a seizure CANNOT swallow his tongue. Efforts to hold the tongue down can injure teeth or jaw.
* Don't attempt artificial respiration except in the unlikely event that a person does not start breathing again after the seizure has stopped.
* Stay with the person until the seizure ends naturally.
* Be friendly and reassuring as consciousness returns.
* Offer to call a taxi, friend or relative to help the person get home if he seems confused or unable to get home by himself.

So instead you allow them to endanger themselves? What you read isn't what we were told.

You turn them on their side and hold em. If you have something to stick in their mouth put it their so they don't bite their tongue off.

Straight outta training.

I dont doubt that you two were taught that but seriously if you read up on it or talk with specialists they'll tell you the opposite.
^ Truth ^

My sister in law, mom and sister work with kids with special needs and in none of their training were they told to do any of the things that you were trained to do... and they work with kids with seizures on a regular basis.

So allow someone to endanger themself or possible gain even more injuries? Roger that. You guys also allow them to eat their own tongue?

Why don't you guys go ahead now and explain the reasoning of why you DON'T hold them down instead of just saying "I read this and a doctor told me this or my blah blah blah does this.." Feel free. Not just an opinion, but something with some fact to it.

You're not supposed to hold them down, but you are supposed to control the environment. Meaning go onto the floor and make a boundary around them, allowing them to have their seizure, but so they wont move about.

Also if you put something in their mouth they can choke on it.
To shove something in their mouth could turn out much worse than biting their tongue.

Also, these things are coming from people that work with people with these issues or have these issues in their families.

Alicia's brother has them, as does my nephew.
