You should of put a branch in the tank for your turtle butch, would of been much easier. Most of the time you see turtles in the wild they're chilling on logs.

they become water logged which would not allow the turtle to be completely dry, mildew and mold and bacteria become a problem, also the waterlogged wood swells and will create pressure against the tank, pressing with force and eventually damaging it
