Roach: Cotto is Declining, Mayweather May Stop Him
Posted by: Michael Marley on boxingscene

According to Freddie Roach, trainer of WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao, there won't be any surprises on May 5th at the MGM Grand - when Floyd Mayweather Jr. moves up to 154-pounds to challenge WBA champion Miguel Cotto, who Pacquiao stopped in the twelfth round in 2009.

In the opinion of Roach, Cotto has been declining since the beating he took at the hands of Antonio Margarito in July of 2008, when the Mexican stopped the Puerto Rican star in the eleventh round.
"The speed and the boxing ability will be a big difference," Roach said. "I think Cotto's been declining ever since Magarito beat him up so badly. He's really a bit on the downside at this point. I think Mayweather may even stop Miguel now."

But yet Roach and Manny wanted to fight Cotto again at 147lb before Floyd made the fight. Cotto was declining and Manny still made that man fight him at a catchweight of 145lb. But 3 years ago when Bigface says these same things like Roach about Cotto, I was called a hater.

Roach just called Cotto damaged goods just like I have been saying for years about Cotto. Do you agree or disagree?
Morebass please give me your great boxing input on the matter, since you always want to act like I don't know what I'm talking about.

I don't think pac vs cotto 2 was ever that serious. Cotto even said in an interview the two sides never even sat down for negotiations. Cotto wanted to fight Pac, and pac's team said he's not interested at fighting above 147 anymore and Cotto said he wouldn't fight below 150 and that was that.

also if pac did take the fight at 150 or above, he would have been lynched by fans & the media. Nobody wanted a pac/cotto rematch.

Below is the question I asked.

Cotto is not damaged goods he's a champ at 154 and the #1 154 pound fighter in the world. He's at the tail end of his career though or past his prime but he's not damaged goods.

Roach is trying to discredit the assumed Floyd victory a bit, but he said one thing right, "The speed and the boxing ability will be a big difference."

That's all he needed to say.

Nah I wouldn't like any of those fights. If Mosley were to beat canelo James Kirkland would make the most sense imo

Apparently the wbc is going to make kirkland fight Vanes in yet another elimination bout assuming he beats Molina. I don't know how many "elimination " fights kirkland has to win to get a crack at that belt. Originally they said winner of kirkland Angulo fights Canelo then it was winner of kirkland Molina now its kirkland vanes.

Floyds a boss, he does what the fuck he wants! straight business man, dont take it personal. he might want to challenge Sergio or Canelo next for the title, who knows. Mayweather is very unpredictable
