Know i got you he is definetly the bigger fighter for sure and going up 2 wieght classes makes a huge difference but i think he is listed as only inch bigger with a 5 inch reach advantage. I just think being off for 15 or 16 months at the age of 32 is going to affect him at least a little bit and that could make a huge difference when youre going against a killer like Marquez even at 143. This will be the best fighter and hardest puncher IMO he has fought in a long time regardless of the wieght. Dont get me wrong Floyd is bigger faster and will be the favorite but Marquez is a slick mother fucker and at some point Floyd will have to lead and open himself up and IFFFF he has lost any handspeed at all he will be vunerable to Marquez's hard pinpoint accurate punching. Marquez is def faster than Oscar, Hatton, Baldomir,Gatti whichh has been his recent fights. I hope this makes sense i am pretty loaded right now but whatever happens anyways this should be a good one

Floyd is 32, but you know he's a really young 32, in that his style of fighting doesn't cause him to take much damage, and he hasn't really been in any wards either.

That's as far as his physical condition.

Ring rust is a totally different issue, and I think that is where the big question mark is.

If Marquez can effectively cut off the ring, and force Mayweather into a dogfight, I can actually see him getting the nod in this fight.

The one thing about Marquez is that he's not lighting fast, or super strong, but he has great timing, which is pretty much the most effective way to counter speed.

His trainer told Sky Sports: "I would suggest he retire. At the end of the day it's his decision. He tried twice. He failed twice. He lost to my son and to lose to someone below that, it's time to leave the ring."
"He lost to my son and to lose to someone below that..."

mayweather sr. sure has something to say all the time.

i cant wait for a pacquiao and pretty boy fight.

and then 1 more marquez fight.

Probably anywhere from $150 +

Redrum if you really want to go, and get the tickets through Ticketmaster, you'd probably have to buy $250+ seats.

Ticket brokers will get all of the lowest priced seats, because those are the tickets with the highest amount of margin for them.

Also, Ticket Master sells from the top down.
If you are the first to buy the $100 seats then you will get the VERY last row, then they sell downward. $200 and so on. I have been a victim of "first in line" a couple of times.

That way if there are extra seats towards fight time its easier for them to sell since they are better seats.

Floyd Jr to earn $15 million versus Marquez

MANILA, Philippines - Floyd Mayweather Jr. is reportedly getting $15 million for a fight that “stinks.”

And if accurate, it means that Mayweather, coming off a 17-month-old retirement, stands to get $3 million more than Manny Pacquiao in guaranteed purse for facing Juan Manuel Marquez.

Pacquiao, now the pound-for-pound champion, lofty title disputed by Mayweather even when he was in retirement, got $12 million for fighting Ricky Hatton last May 2 in Las Vegas.

The Filipino icon, however, stands to earn a few millions more once the giant pay-per-view sales in Britain, the United States and elsewhere pour in in a week or two.

FightHype reported yesterday that Mayweather, who earned $25 million against Oscar dela Hoya in 2007, would get $15 million for fighting Marquez on July 18 at the MGM Grand. (Related story on A-29)

Pacquiao’s trainer, Freddie Roach, laughed at the Mayweather-Marquez bout set at a catchweight of 144 pounds.

“The fight stinks. Two counter-punchers waiting for the other one to make the first move is boring and proves nothing,” Roach told The Grand Rapids Press.

“If Mayweather wanted to prove he was the best, all he had to do was wait one day and see who won Pacquiao-Hatton before signing to fight Marquez,” he said.

The Mayweather-Marquez fight was officially announced at the MGM Grand just hours before Pacquiao took on Hatton, and demolished the British brawler inside two rounds.

“So much for truth in advertising,” Roach said in a separate article that came out of boxingscene.com in reaction to the fight being dubbed “Number One, Numero Uno.”

“We all know who the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter is and his name is Manny Pacquiao. They can call Mayweather-Marquez ‘No. 1,’ but it smells like No. 2,” said Roach.

“You might as well rename him Fraud Mayweather Jr.,” he added of the ex-pound-for-pound champion.

Roach is smartly setting out the bait to make sure this fight takes place. I remember a while back when the talk of Manny fighting Mayweather came up, it was completely out of the question in Roach's mind, now he is dead set on making it happen. He is on his hype horse now to get the buzz brewing. I don't think he'll have any issues. Mayweather will make even more money in the Pacquiao fight than against Marquez, so bar a defeat, let's get ready for a Mayweather/Pacquiao fight at the end of the year.

Oh shit this undercard is going to be sick. Zab Judah and now likely GUZMAN vs DIAZ. I got Guzman by wide UD....

Joan Guzman vs Juan Diaz;Mayweather-Marquez Undercard

Undefeated lightweight contender Joan Guzman, the Dazzling Dominican, has accepted a fight against fellow 135-pound luminary Juan “Baby Bull” Diaz. Now Guzman is awaiting word as to whether Diaz, who just graduated from college in Houston, is in agreement.

Damn, that is dope as fuck. Card is looking like a complete card of yester-year.

I think that Guzman's pretty damn quick, but Diaz is pretty good at cutting the ring off, we'll see. Guzman does like to exchange quite a bit, which would play to Diaz' advantage.

Guzman can take a punch and he's faced bigger punchers than Diaz. Guzman should be able to mirror the main event and win by semi-easy UD, diaz wont be able to hit him. It's still unconfirmed, I wouldn't doubt if Diaz decides against this fight. its a risky fight for him

HBO 24/7 series for Mayweather/Marquez

NEW YORK – HBO Sports’ groundbreaking “24/7” reality franchise, which has captured seven Sports Emmy® Awards, will return with MAYWEATHER/MARQUEZ 24/7, an all-new four-episode, all-access series, it was announced today by Ross Greenburg, president, HBO Sports. Debuting SATURDAY, JUNE 27 (9:30-10:00 p.m. ET/PT), the series spotlights a host of intriguing storylines, with Floyd Mayweather, the sport’s most irrepressible superstar, returning after a year-and-a-half absence to face Juan Manuel Marquez, one of boxing’s most accomplished performers, as they prepare for their July 18 welterweight pay-per-view showdown in Las Vegas.

Noted Greenburg, “This latest edition of ‘24/7’ features all the ingredients that we look for in greenlighting the ‘24/7’ franchise: big-time boxing stars, engaging storylines and in Floyd’s case, a larger-than-life personality that is tailor-made for reality television. This fight is sure to generate a lot of interest, and we hope to present another compelling television program.”

Episodes two and three of MAYWEATHER/MARQUEZ 24/7 debut on subsequent Saturdays – JULY 4 (9:45-10:15 p.m.) and 11 (10:00-10:30 p.m.) – while the finale debuts FRIDAY, JULY 17 (9:30-10:00 p.m.), just one night before the fight. All four episodes will have multiple replay dates on HBO, and the series will also be available on HBO On Demand.

MAYWEATHER/MARQUEZ 24/7 will provide exclusive behind-the-scenes access, along with in-depth interviews, as these determined warriors prepare for the second mega-fight of 2009. This is Mayweather’s third “24/7” appearance, while Marquez is making his HBO reality series debut. Regarded as the best boxer of his era, the undefeated Mayweather (39-0, 25 KOs) is back at full speed both in and out of the ring after a brief self-imposed retirement.

Marquez is a dynamic fighter (50-4-1, 37 KOs) from Mexico City who shares at least one thing with his flashy opponent: They’re both willing to fight anybody in the sport, regardless of division. Marquez is moving up from the lightweight ranks to the talent-rich welterweight division to challenge boxing’s most provocative star.

Storylines for this fast-paced series will include the interaction between Mayweather and his uncle/trainer, Roger Mayweather, and Marquez’s rock-solid relationship with his longtime trainer Ignacio Beristain.

MAYWEATHER/MARQUEZ 24/7 is the latest installment of the widely acclaimed “24/7” franchise that began in 2007 on HBO with “De La Hoya/Mayweather 24/7” and “Mayweather/Hatton 24/7.” The series continued in 2008 with “Calzaghe/Jones 24/7” and “De La Hoya/Pacquiao 24/7,” and resumed in 2009 with “Pacquiao/Hatton 24/7.”
