But despite my rushed and crammed experience, I can still say with confidence that the game is a worthwhile follow-up to Fallout 3, mostly because it doesn’t stray very far from the formula that that landmark title helped establish. The world is still expansive, with an overwhelming number of locations, characters, and items to respectively visit, talk to, and collect; the quests, for the most part, are interesting and rewarding; and the overarching storyline, the one whose shell I’ve just begun to break open, is compelling enough to justify the investment of time and energy needed to see it through to the end. Even if the climatic ending is bungled--it was all a dream!--the journey is satisfying enough to help mitigate any potential disappointment.
