i totally agree it'd be a good idea not vargas'ing him, but the only reason i...and probably others...want to rush him a bit is so he can redeem all mexican fighters and win one for the good guys against pacquiao before he retires

at the rate mexicans are falling in love with this kid, and with smart marketing in the u.s. in the next couple years, i think he'll be able to bring in de la hoya (in his prime) type ratings in a fight against pac

hes definitely straight paisa...i hope he keeps it real and makes no effort to learn english like the true mexican champs. always using translators with larry merchant...even after like 10yrs

btw, what weight does that brandon rios kid fight at whos part of garcias camp? i know nothing about him but just saw him in the last 24/7 and would love for somebody to beat his imature ass. could this be a job for canelo?

I disagree I hope he does try to learn a little English because unlike some of the other great Mexican stars, he has crossover appeal which is very, very rare especially in this day and age. I'm not saying he should be like Oscar or anything, but just because of his style, his looks and his celebrity status already, he could be pretty damn big in america too.

Rios fights at 135, I think he's been calling out Juan Manuel Marquez who would absolutely slaughter him. JMM wouldn't give him the time of day though. Victor Ortiz vs Rios is still a possibility at 140 pounds, they hate eachother so it would make for good TV and Ortiz should kick his ass.

I'm reading Humberto Soto (who won big last night on the Top Rank PPV) is in play for Rios in Feb on Showtime. That should be a banger.

Soto is in one of my favorite boxing pictures of all time:

all covered in the other mans blood, who's just laying there dead lol

yeah i was kind of joking but i do think its funny/great when these dudes still have translators after being in the american spotlight for so long

you're right though. the simple combo of canelos skills and looks have got capitalist pigs licking their chops right now. its funny to say, but if canelo had more of the indigenous mexican physical features and if he weren't considered...how do i say this...young and handsome (no homo), he would not have the celebrity power he has. he has the traits to render him very likable by both mexicans AND americans and is definitely on pace to being a big star

its like the mexican goal keeper memo ochoa...dude is solid, but not that spectacular yet became a star largely because of his looks

EDIT: related video....perhaps foreshadowing??
