who at 154 has better defense bigface? Cintron, Gomez, Hatton, all these guys Canelo has fought lately have little to no defense. James Kirkland has very little defense and in no way would that prepare him for floyd (although it would be a sick ass fight). Let's go down the list more - Vanes - not much defense. Carlos Molina - not much defense. Alfredo Angulo - no defense. K9 - no defense. Pawel Wolak - no defense.

So yeah, out of the guys at 154 I'd say Lara has some of the best defense in the division plus more importantly, he's a great counter puncher.

I'm not saying Lara is mayweather, but my point is Canelo hasn't fought a single person who has GOOD defense, good speed and is a counter puncher. Look at his resume, all the guys he fights are typically come forward guys and/or guys with very limited skills. Lara at least is a boxer who will give Canelo problems and that's the point of progressing as a fighter - fighting guys with different styles which canelo hasn't really done.

I don't see arum doing the fight with mayweather so fuck pacquiao for not being a boss like floyd and martinez would be a good fight but there's money in it and mayweather knows that Martinez has no fan base dudes a future hall a famer but he doesn't sell tickets casual boxing fans don't know or care who or how good he is.

R. Mayweather: F**k No, Canelo No Match For Floyd Jr.

Mexican star and WBC junior middleweight champion Saul Alvarez looked solid last night in disposing of former champion Kermit Cintron in under five rounds at the Monumental Plaza De Toros in Mexico City. After a slow first couple of rounds, Alvarez eventually began to open up, dropping Cintron with a crisp right hand in the fourth and finishing him off along the ropes one round later.

While the stoppage by referee Hector Afu may have been a touch early, there’s no denying that Alvarez was again able to showcase an array of skills and talents that beguile his 21 years of age. During a post-fight interview with HBO’s Max Kellerman, Alvarez called for a May clash with undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr., stating his willingness to test himself against the man he deems as the world’s best.

I had caught up with Floyd’s Uncle and trainer Roger Mayweather a few days ago to discuss the third Manny Pacquiao-Juan Manuel Marquez clash earlier this month and wanted to follow up with his thoughts on Alvarez’s wishes.

While Roger is able to recognize some definite ability in the young champion, he gave a mixed answer when assessing a matchup between him and Floyd.

“He can go in there and he likes to be like Floyd,” Mayweather said of Alvarez. “He can come in like Floyd if he wants to, but f*** no he aint no match [for Floyd]. [Floyd would] give him a fight though.”

Mayweather’s advisor Leonard Ellerbe announced earlier this month that Floyd would be eyeing a May 5th return to the sport following his September 17th knockout over then-WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz. With the date falling near Mexican Independence Day, there were initially rumors of living legend Erik Morales being in the running to face off with Mayweather, but that scenario seems like a stretch.

Morales has enjoyed a decorated career and even lifted the vacant WBC junior welterweight crown into the air in his last fight after scoring a 10th round TKO over Pablo Cesar Cano but Roger isn’t feeling the matchup in the slightest.

“He aint going to fight no Morales. Morales is too easy. Too easy. Yeah, it’s a mismatch,” Roger continued.

Roger then threw another name into the mix, that of Argentinean firecracker Marcos Maidana.

“I think he could probably fight, I think, would be a Maidana,” Roger said of the WBA junior welterweight champ. “The one who beat Ortiz. I think that would be a better match than fighting a Morales. He’s an aggressive type of fighter and he has a win over a major fighter.”

Floyd has been spotted training at his personal gym a few times over the past weeks but is presently out of town and was seen last night in Cincinnati, Ohio for Adrien Broner’s scintillating 3rd round knockout over Vincente Martin Rodriguez, a win that netted him the vacant WBO junior lightweight strap.

Roger and his nephew don’t communicate as much during Floyd’s down time, but the outspoken trainer knows all too well that when the time comes, against whoever the opponent, Junior will buckle down.

“My nephew is going to get prepared for whoever. It doesn’t matter. Whatever the case is, then that’s what he’s got to do.”

I like Lara vs Canelo, but I think a more exciting and marketable fight would be Kirkland.

I like the rate in which Golden Boy is moving Canelo at, he's still hella young, so no need to feed him to the wolves.

Canelo Alvarez vs. Kermit Cintron a Box Office Bust Saturday Night

Saul Alvarez, the heir apparent to Mexican boxing hero status, was dealt a TKO Saturday night at the Monumental Plaza de Toros in Mexico City. However, the blow didn’t come from opponent, Kermit Cintron, who was easily taken out via fifth round TKO. Canelo’s defeat came at the hands of the Mexican fight fans, who only filled the venue to about half-capacity.

The slow ticket sales concerned Canelo Promotions so much that the last several days saw a 2-for-1 special. Still, only about 7,000 people came out to see the red-headed WBC junior middleweight champ defend against former world titlist, Cintron.

Mexican fight fans are notoriously late to buy tickets, so some at the promotional company still felt that the arena would fill-up with last minute ticket buyers.

But when the plaza de toros was still half-empty twenty minutes before the main event, Canelo’s team decided to open the gates to the ringside area and allow those in the stands to fill-out the more expensive seats below.

i used to think the same thing until i went to mexico city for the first time, everyone was a chivas fan, i asked multiple cab drivers where all the america fans where at and they said most people in mexico city like the chivas. Also mexico city is a big ass city, its kinda weak if a guy like canelo cant sell tickets.

his ratings on mexican TV are normally through the roof, so I don't know what the explanation is. Maybe the article I posted yesterday was right - meixcans are getting tired of canelo & chavez not fighting eachother. idk. It's their pacquiao-mayweather I guess, although they aren't in the same weight class.

Canelo is going to hurt old shell shocked Mosley. I hope Shane don't go out like a bitch this time and I will be happy. You still a legend Shane but you have to fight back this time around.
