WITH ALL THAT SAID THE WAY WE PEOPLE IN CALI LOOK AT NW RAP IS LIKE COMPARING NEW YORK TO MAINE U KNOW ITS LIKE WHAT IS FROM THERE WHEN I THINK OF OREGON I THINK OF TRESS AND WHITE PEOPLE BUT MAYBE THATS BECAUSE I ONLY BEEN TO EUGENE AND WHEN I WENT TO SEATTLE MY FIRST THOUGHT WAS ALOT OF WHITE PEOPLE AND RAIN.LOL. THATS WAS MY OPINION BUT SEATTLE IS COOL I BEEN THRU THE C.D. THE SOUTHEND IT WAS WHAT IT WAS. BUT WHAT IM SAYIN IS FAR AS RAP ITS BEEN WEST COAST MEANING JUST CALI BAY AREA TO L.A. THATS WHAT GETS RECOGNIZED OUT THE MOST. BUT SHIT MY FAVORITE ARTIST RIGHT NOW IS FROM THE NW (SYKO) AND I BARLEY LEARNED ABOUT HIM LIKE YEAR AND A HALF AGO. ONE DAY THEY'LL GET SUM RECOGNITION THERES SUM GOOD MUSIC COMIN FROM UP THERE
Your exactly right! For those of us who been around the country can see the huge difference in comparison. Your also right about the NW being mostly white! Us minorities are outnumbered up here compared to Cali and other states. If your from elsewhere, or you moved and came back, it is hard to get use to. It's a fucked up feeling when I visit family and friends down in Cali, Las Vegas, etc. and then come back up here. The N.W. is a good place to raise a your kids though compared to other cities/states I've been to. As long as you can put up with the sugar coated racism, rain and drivers, then it's alright in the N.W.
I am guessing you are Latino b/c when compared to the two places you mentioned, the NW is even to ahead in Asian population, even to ahead in Native American population, only modestly behind in African American population, but way behind in Latino population.
I doubt an African American would have those somewhat nostalgic recollections of those particular places, they tend to have those same feelings regarding cities in the Midwest/East and the entire South.

I am mostly mixed Native and Chicano. I come from a multicultural family structure. I'm saying compared to other parts of the country, the N.W. is mostly white folks. When I was in the Midwest and South, there were way more black folks than here in the N.W. The N.W. does have a lot of Natives, but you gotta go to the Rez to see them not in minority to whites. In Portland if you walk into a store, go to work, etc. then you will always be outnumbered by whites. It's just a different vibe that the N.W. brings compared to other places I've been. I'm not complaining, because I've been to other cities that made me appreciate Oregon, Washington, etc. Everywhere has a negative and positive. Like I said, the N.W. is a great place to bring up a family. The negatives I listed before are easy to deal with, but can get irritating once in awhile.
Absolutely, you don't lie there at all (below is the proof). I guess I was just saying I think it's better to chop it up by particular group, rather than just using the word minority, b/c from my experience, folks aren't necessarily looking to reside w/ other minorities, they're looking to reside w/ their own group. My buddy went to school in St. Louis, he hated it there partially b/c there are no Asians in STL, even though it is a minorities as the majority city (due to its huge black population). In the same vein, a black person could very well feel out of place in New Mexico and a Latino in Mississippi. Hell, I suppose if you talked to some minorities (blacks and Latinos) in Southern California, having a large minority population of the other group could be a major negative rather than positive or neutral (but I admit, I don't know how much of that has to do with the media blowing it out of proportion).

Admittedly the state by state breakup is not the best way to do it, it is incredibly vague (best example, Milwaukee WI has a huge 90-100% black area, Seattle WA has no such area, but you would never guess that by this map b/c Wisconsin as a whole is so white). But it gets at exactly the point you made, overall whiteness.

the kinda music i make attracts all kinda regions...so its always good to make music that dont limit itself to one demographic. i dont feel disrespected by cali (except for when it comes to receivin proper credit) alot of cali niggas come up here to get a certain sound...along with other muthafuckas...really the whole west coast is sleep...so whether it be a cali artists, idaho, oregon, washington to blow...then the WEST is BACK...until then...you better be doin somethin besides just makin music...
