Let me start by saying that, its become clearly obvious that rap listeners are by far some of the dumbest individuals on earth. Clearly because they dont know HOW to listen to the music. When you listen to a rap CD, you should view it the same way as you would a TV show or a movie. Just like you wouldnt expect for Larenz Tate to really be doing the things that O-Dog did in Menace 2 Society, you shouldnt expect for Robert Green to do the murders and criminal acts that Spice 1 talks about doing.
Im seeing people act like theyre heartbroken when someone tells them that a rapper doesnt really live the criminal lifestyle that they rap about. Like with this Rick Ross situation, I still dont see what the big deal is about him being a corrections officer in the past. It's all a market, it's entertainment and nothing more. Rappers are playing a character that their record label made for them to play. You do have rappers that are out there really living that life...but thats only a select few. Then you have people that try to base their lives on whatever the rappers are talking about. Its like...the way that they carry themselves changes as a new artist comes out. When one CD plays out, this dude is lost on what to do until a new hot CD comes out.
You look on a lot of rap message boards for instance, there are so many "gangstas" that have never even seen the streets...but they think they know everything about the street life just because they listen to a rapper. Dudes are trying their best to act angry, hardcore, etc. for no reason, just because an MC talks about being crazy, psychotic, trigger happy, etc. Everytime you look up, theirs some kind of argument because some fool is trying to prove that he can be hard by talking sh*t to someone for no reason.
You also have the people that try to live the fast, expensive lifestyle that the rappers talk about. Dudes that are living in the projects, no job, driving a beat up car, etc. But are trying to wear the most expensive clothes, have 22 inch rims, wear excessive jewelry and so on...just because he saw it on BET in a video.
The rappers arent to blame for this, its 100% the listeners fault for taking this entertainment as real life. It's the weak individuals that make rap music look bad. Rappers arent telling people to rob, kill, sell drugs, etc. Most MC's talk about how they've had to do it to survive...and these lames take it as them saying that you have to do those things in order to be cool or to be considered real. Thats why you have so many wannabe gangsters running around right now, because they misinterperted what a rapper said, and theyre trying to act out what they heard on a CD. You also have them trying to be gangsters to impress these stupid ass black women that only want to fuck with a dude thats trying to emulate the BET lifestyle. Rap is entertainment, not real life. Im sick of every young person, especially teenagers trying to act like theyre the hardest gangsters on earth, when they have never stepped a foot into the street life.
Only thing they THINK they know is what they hear on a CD, and half the time...that rapper doesnt even know what he's talking about. Now, dont get me wrong, some of us rappers have done the things that we talk about. But at the same time, we're not telling the listener to do it. Even worse, are the ones who arent raised in that kind of environment or upbringing. But they try so hard to be a part of that lifestyle just so they can have something to rap about. Their parents be teachers, doctors, lawyers, law enforcement, etc. but they want to try to get into the street life just because they heard a rap CD.
NOW...of course these kind of things were happening before rap came along. But...when gangsta rap became a popular thing, thats when this got out of hand. So once again...rap is entertainment. If you listen to it, you should listen to it the same way as you would watch a movie or TV show.
