Because they had OTHER needs maybe? They have one of the best RB's in the game and a very capable QB that can deliver even without a big WR to throw too. They desperately needed help on the OL and defensive upgrades, well, EVERYWHERE. You're mixing up NEEDS with WANTS.
That's true... but they needed a WR too. I think losing Holt is just as bad as losing Pace or even worse. I think they didn't think Crabtree was all that either or they would have drafted him to replace Holt.

im really not sold on either of them...Crabtree has protocol nfl "talent"......DHB was just a horrible reach and i still feel bad for raiders fans..even IF he breaks out it shows a horrible trend that will haunt yall threw the rest of the Al Davis years....

if i had to my money would be on Crabtree...

ill even make a comparison to DHB....

Ted Ginn JR...not an elite "number 1" but if you forget about him he could torch you for a 78 yarder in no time.....have some impact on the returning untill teams stop kicking to him...

we will see tho

I know the facts idiot, Crabtree "fell" for a reason. Nobody wanted him that picked between 1-9 that should tell you something but you're too stupid to understand.

Davis picked DHB because his speed will help our offense out in so many ways. Our running game is already there so once safeties start creeping to the line of scrimmage to help support against the run, DHB will be a threat to get behind the safety on play action fakes. J Lee Higgins is a number 3 receiver which means he usually lines up in the slot. With DHB out there they're either going to have to double him or leave him in one on one coverage. If you double that means the safety can't come up in the box to support the run. If you leave him in one on one coverage the Raiders are going to make you pay because he has the "speed" to go vertical and JaMarcus has the "arm" to get him the ball. So pick your poison and learn the game of football before you try to get with me!
Got damn youre gay, 1-9 didnt want crab because they already have receivers and needed help in other areas. Det-CJ, STL-DA, KS-Bowe, NY-Wanted Sanchez, SEA-TJ, CIN-CJ, OAK-Idiots, TB-?, GB-GJ.

If Lee Higgins is a 3, DHB will be too. There is no difference between DHB and Lee Higgins.

The hilarious thing is, EVERYONE....experts, Raider fans, sports fans...ALL were like "WTF!" when they picked DHB. Did you NOT see that during the draft? It even left one of the panelists SPEECHLESS....that doesn't happen to often in the 1st round. Not even Mario Williams garnered that much head scratching.

Again, the justifying of this pick by Raider fans is just a defense mechanism. I hope he works out of you, though, i truly do. I would love to be proven wrong.
Funny thing is idiots bring up "look what happened to mario williams" bullshit, but mario williams was projected to be one of the top 3 players picked that year. DHB was NOT even close to being projected top 10 this year

Who cares where the player was "projected" to go? The Raiders got the guy they wanted period. Doesn't matter where he was taken, they got the guy they wanted. And the critics talked bad about Houston because they drafted Bush instead of Williams and who's lauging now? Michael Crabtree equals this drafts Reggie Bush.

Yeah but with your logic Bush should be doing good in the NFL since he came from a "Pro System"

Dont you get it? Everyone is making fun of the Raiders because they drafted him at 7 when they couldve drafted him in the late teens or 20's by trading down and saving money in the salary cap and gaining a pick or two in return!! Thats whats everyones been saying and laughing about so far. No ones questioning that they drafted DHB, theyre questioning that they drafted him at 7. you get it yet?! Whys it so hard to understand?

Michael Crabtree equals this drafts Reggie Bush.
Another ASSumption

Nope I don't get why every is making fun of the Raiders because how do they know DHB would have been available in the late teens or 20's? We don't know if or who was offering to trade up so it wasn't worth the risk anyway. Why take that chance? They could've missed out on their dude. Nobody knows who would have taken DHB if the Raiders didn't. The Raiders had and used their opportunity to get who they wanted when they wanted so why risk trading down to get extra picks when the player you want could be drafted by another team that was picking ahead of you? Is that hard to understand? What the Raiders did make plenty of sense to me. Makes no sense to take that gamble! Get your guy while you can!

"Well, the first thing you have to know about me is, I don't need to stand up and beat my chest and say, 'The hell with everyone,'" Cable said. "I'm going to probably take a statement, if you will, from Bill Walsh. When you find a player you want, go get him. Don't worry about it. Go get him. And that's what I did. I'll take the heat for that. We've since had people coming back apologizing, turning on film and saying, 'Oh, my god, well this guy was going to Chicago, and they admitted that they were going to take (safety Mike Mitchell) at 49. So, it makes some people look pretty foolish now. But, the bottom line is, I kind of live by that statement from coach Walsh. When you find the one you want, go get it. Don't let anyone detract you and don't worry about what they say."

Do you have solid proof (like the Bears and Mike Mitchell admitting they were going to take him at pick 49)? Or are you just basing your opinion off of projections? Some teams may have had DBH second or even first behind Crabtree on their board, nobody really knows so you're just speculating at this point.

This thread was created out of hope and rationalization. If the Niners took this guy all Raider fans would be having a field day with it. It was a purely shit pick and everyone knows it. Live with it.
AMEN. I was in the hospital with a collapsed lung watching the draft. When I saw who the raiders drafted felt like my other lung collapsed. Hahha I'm neither a 9"ers or raiders fan. Just there was so much better talent out there than dhb. I think crabtree will have a bigger impact on his team.
