You can't even take anything BEFORE the video as part of your argument if you're going to argue what we just saw in the video. Do you know if he was REALLY driving "all over curbs and lawns at speeds of 70mph"? There is no footage of that, only the word of the, not so trustworthy, police. The only 100% clear-cut facts are

A. This man was trying to elude police
b. This man was unarmed
C. Police fired a shitload of rounds into a residential area

these are the only 100% UNDENIABLE IRREFUTABLE facts. Now, the man did peel out and it did sound as tho he was looking to ram the police blockade. The officers should have approached the vehicle with weapons drawn while it was sitting there. Also, after he peeled out shots were fired and he was no longer accelerating. I don't know if it's because he was hit or because he was trying to avoid the gunfire; regardless the police should have stopped firing and approached the vehicle, in an effort to keep the man alive as well as to not further endanger the lives of the residents. Firing 120 rounds at a non-accelerating vehicle surrounded by houses is completely uncalled for.

I don't think anybody in this discussion is trying to defend the driver; however, we have some people trying to defend the actions of the police which were COMPLETELY irresponsible. Let's imagine that this event took place outside of your home. All you know is a man in a SUV peels out towards officer, shots are fired, the man stops accelerating, and 115 more rounds are fired into YOUR HOME. How is this going to make you feel?

Good points.

well what i dont understand is how to get the lunatic? everyone who is disageeing with me, is saying that its wrong to shoot 120 at that dude. but what was the alternative? hold hands and sing a peace song?[/b]
I hope no one ever drives down your residential street at 70 mph. But if someone does, I expect not to hear any complaints when the Tulare County Sheriff's Department dumps 120 shots into your and your neighbors' houses. No alternatives when you're dealing with a lunatic, right?

The LA Times reported that deputies set up a spike strip to stop the driver, but then stopped/boxed in his SUV before he reached the strip. Source: http://www.latimes.com/news/printedition/la-me-chase10may10,1,2145662.story

if children were outside i think the police would done somehting to prevent shooting them.

No similar concern for children *inside*?

By the way, Fox News reported that the driver was traveling at 70 mph, but the LA Times reported that he was traveling at 35 mph, half that speed. Source: http://www.latimes.com/news/printedition/la-me-chase10may10,1,2145662.story

yes, fuck him for endangering the lives of people in the neighberbood, he doesnt give a fuck...if that part of the story is true.

shit, i wouldnt want this lunatic living in my neighborhood.
The uproar is not over whether the driver was an angel or not. The uproar is over deputies' procedures in dealing with him.

By the way, if you want more in-depth coverage of the incident, peep the LA Times story at the following link. You might have to register.
