To my recollection it was in an interview with tech... He actually had a good part of the interview solely for him... It happened on a couch what looked like backstage...

I think it was one of my first interviews I did with tech when I asked who he would next like to see signed to strange. The interview was from Nov. 2007.

It seems to me that Strange isnt just intrested in a "rapper" per se...there looking performers. When I listen to dudes song/ flow its ok but when I seen the video of him on stage acting hype and having the crowd going shit looks ok. Tech knows the real money for him right now is in the live shows / concerts. Its a smart move to sign cats that can get the crowd moving and have a good show/ stage presence.....I think thats going to be S M's M O for a while

The Ill Bill shuffle was unavoidable. As far as signing Cognito, this is a west Coast move. Dude's in Cali, more especially the Bay, which happens to have the most heavily saturated hip-hop culture in the US. He makes music that they obviously saw huge potential in, regardless of his abilities.

What we see as fans are a few hits on youtube and a former affiliation with a label that went nowhere. What they see as exec's is totally different than that.

More than likely, you're right. It's partly due to the fact that his cd was solid, unlike others on the label whose cd's weren't fluid and had little congruence from track to track.
