Early machine guns in the 1700's weren't readily available to any household that wanted them lol why is that something you would even bring up?

and no the 2nd amendment wasn't created for people to "protect themselves". It was created as an anti-government tool in case the government wanted too much power so militias could form and fight back, because the Brits didn't allow their citizens to keep arms in case of revolt. The only way a militia could form is having your average citizen already armed.

I bring up the muskets because in 1776 the average person couldn't walk in to a Cabelas and buy assault rifles with 30 round magazines that could be dumped in the matter of seconds, a couple of hand guns on each hip, and a shotgun in case people get too close lol the happenings of the 1700's shouldn't be the basis for what goes on in 2016.
Well why are you trying to prove a point that nobody can? whether or not the founding fathers would support civilian ownership of assault rifles?

If anything there is more evidence to show they would support it because it is equal firepower to what the government has. Just as muskets were equal firepower as to what the US and the british empire had. As you said it was about protecting yourself and family from the government... So how can you protect yourself against the government if they have fully automatic m416s and you have a 9mm?

Obviously the answer is to allow anyone and everyone to buy RPGs, tanks, fighter jets and so on.

I was just reading on Reddit it's super hard to get a flamethrower and that you have to go through all of this training, get a special permit by the government in order to get one. Why can't it just be the same for guns like this? No one really needs a flamethrower just like no one really needs an AR-15. Sure, they are cool and probably fun as fuck, but grenades are probably awesome to toss around too.

Your post proved my point that what was happening in the 1700's doesn't apply to 2016.

There isn't a gun you can buy that could protect you from the Government. The Government could drone strike your house if they really wanted to. Buying an assault rifle isn't going to save you from a drone strike lol

What if the Government decided to send a bunch of Bradley tanks down your neighborhood? What is some assault rifles going to do exactly?

I never understood why rifles of all things are the guns that get demonized. Half the time it's not even an AR-15, just like in this last shooting, ALL the news agencies claimed it was an AR-15 it took two days before it was revealed it was a different gun altogether.

Want to know the real danger? A glock. That shit is cheap, $450. 9mm bullets are cheap. Magazines are cheap. You can put 17 rounds down in 2-3 seconds. Seung-Hiu Cho didn't go into Virginia Tech weilding an AR-15 or big scary "assault weapon", he had a glock 19 and a walther p22. A 9mm and a .22cal caused the deadliest mass murder in United States history until last week...

An AR-15 can fire off what, 30 shots....45 with an extendo? Much more rapidly than a pistol can (that is, if you modify it to be an automatic and not the shit they sell at walmart). They are called street sweepers for a reason.

These shooters arent walking into areas, spraying everybody in a few seconds and thats it. They're methodically walking person to person, taking them down one by one. Police data suggests in most mass casualty events its one death every 15 seconds. Anyone capable and determined can cause a critical mass casualty event with a handgun just as easily as with a rifle. More easily, because $2,500 would equip you with enough to take out a thousand people, with an expensive rifle and expensive rifle ammunition its much less.

You have to a) know how to fire a glock like that (its a skill and is incredibly difficult) or b) have a wood peg every you go. Also, a glock only carries 15 before you have to reload, right? Try an fire a glock like that and move it side to side...it almost fires to fast for the amount of ammo it carries to hit more than 1 and a half person. Even the extendo would carry 2X as much, so you could hit maybe 3 people. An automatic rifle will shoot at the right pace, to mow down 3X that if done right.

Omar Mateen -- Wife Helped Him Buy Ammo, Claims She Tried To Stop Him | TMZ.com

The wife of terrorist Omar Mateen accompanied her husband when he bought ammunition and a gun holster ... according to a new report by NBC News.
Noor Zahi Salman has been cooperating with the FBI in their ongoing investigation into Sunday morning's mass shooting at Pulse nightclub, where her husband murdered 49 people.
Noor reportedly told the FBI she tried to talk Omar out of the crime, but it doesn't appear she ever went to authorities. She also admitted to dropping him off at the club at least once prior to the shooting, so he could scope out the venue.
Noor is Omar's second wife. The couple has a 3-year-old son.
Authorities are considering filing criminal charges against Noor.

I see your point, and after remembering how the Paris Bataclan concert attack went down and how it was basically AK rounds being fired through people in a large crowd in a spraying motion, I can see the reasoning behind saying that these type of weapons / ammunition could cause more collateral damage in a shorter amount of time.

I'll remain adamant though that when there is a determined shooter in the right situation at the right time under the right circumstances, the ultimate result is going to be the same, a mass casualty event.

They had many different cannons which Im sure the public couldnt own. Is a blunderbuss gonna do anything against a cannon?

Anyway this is all a matter of opinion and interpretation. I doubt i could sway you guys and vice versa.

I say we just ship all of our criminals and felons and mentally ill potential mass shooters to Australia, that's what the British did.
Australia actually instituted regulations on guns in the mid 90's after multiple mass shootings and a couple decades of crazy gun violence......and it worked lol
