Technically he wasn't a rookie, but to the RaiderNation he was a rookie last year.
lol But yet Alex Smiths 2nd year wasnt his "rookie" year.... GTFOH...

Alex Smith made huge strides that year and was called a bust, so at the same point in their careers, Alex Smith was better than JR after the end of year 2.

oh and Alex is only 1 year older, but was drafted 2 years earlier

Oh no, not the Alex Smith vs JaMarcus Russell comparison. The difference here Chree, is that Alex Smith was signed on time, didn't miss training camp/pre-season and he still sucked! Russell signed his contract during the season, which means his missed training camp and pre-season. Huge difference.... that's why I say last year was JR's rookie year because it was his first training camp and pre-season.

I called Alex Smith a bust after his first season because I knew he was going to be a bust. I am not a Niner hater, I just call it like I see it. He did improve in his 2nd season but regressed after his 3rd which solidified his busts status.

And why is Vince Young still crying through his agent talking about he still wants to be the starter? Kerry is back which means Vince will be back on the bench unless Kerry gets hurt.

a- javon walker is overrated, had 1 good season in g.b. then blew out his knee & was never the same. think hes only had 2 1,000yd seasons but its not worth me researching.

b- vy showed more promise than russel has. even tho i think they both suck.

A. smith is a victim of poor management.

a different o.c. and system year to year. i think physically he's through. breaking your shoulder throwing a pass downfield isnt good.

hopefully j.russ doesnt fall victim to the same fate.

vy was put into a pretty well run organization and lost his starting job to stonefoot. that all that needs to be said.

You're right about Javon Walker having 2 1,000 yard seasons.

As for Vy showing more promise than Russell... Are you serious? If Vince has shown more "promise" he would be entering the season as the starting qb of the Titans but instead he's riding the bench and on the verge of being a bust. Russell is entering the season as our starting qb with no controversies.... that should tell you who's showing more promise.

His 3rd season he went 2-1 then broke his shoulder. and was forced to play with it fucked up

Well if you call a qb that threw 13 TD's vs 8 INT's a bust then I'd hate to hear what you'd call a qb that threw 1 TD vs 11 INT's....

u guys r dumb. vy has had a good year b4 & qbd a team that wasnt horrible. another shitty year from russel & hell b on the bench as well. peep their 2nd seasons & vy was ahead of russel @ that point. not 2 mention kerry collins is decent & the raiders dont hav a 2nd option. but im sure youll disagree on the strength of yer raider fans.

I agree, and he broke it on a sack from rocky bernard, he came down on alex with all his weight.

Id call him a player who had a better supporting cast

i'm talking about a. smith breaking it last year during practice after the intial injury.

you think j.russ has receivers or an o-line?

Vince Young had a good year or the Titans had a good year? Once defensive coordinators figured out how to stop Vince from running so much he became boo-boo.

And what do you mean "another" shitty year from Russell? When did he have the first shitty year?

And you said peep their second season and Vince had a better second season? Are you sure about that? And if VY was "way" ahead of Russell at any point why is he now riding the bench? We're not disagreeing just becasue we're Raider fans bro. Anyone that would take Vince Young over Russell right now in this point in their careers is trippin'. I don't even think Chree would take Vince Young over Russell....LOL

Chree... don't forget Russell had Kwame blocking for him too. I wonder how Vince Young would have done with Kwame protecting his backside... LOL

lmao at raider fans thinking that Russel is beyond VY at this point....the only reason Russel is guaranteed starter is because there's absolutely NO ONE behind him...not because of his performance on the field....

but this has been debated and debated constantly and its beating a dead horse by now....the numbers dont lie...

at the end of the day, they both gotta show more to stay the starter (in russels case) and be back to the starer (in youngs case)

we could argue VY vs. Russell back and forth all day... but that pretty much sums it up right there

honestly... Russell hasn't proven much yet... granted... we had a weak O-Line and no receivers... coaching change in the middle of the season... and he's only played one full season...

under those conditions on a bad team you can't expect much from him...

I'm not saying he won't be good... I'm just saying we really don't know yet... he has to prove himself this season
