New champion will be crowned
by THE RING
Jan 31st, 2012

THE RING will crown a new champion when Nos. 1 and 2 cruiserweights Yoan Pablo Hernandez and Steve Cunningham face off Saturday in Frankfurt, Germany, barring a draw or no-contest.

The cruiserweight title has been vacant since Tomasz Adamek gave it up early in 2009 to campaign at heavyweight.

Adamek defeated Cunningham by a split decision a few months earlier to win the vacant RING 200-pound belt.

Hernandez defeated Cunningham by a sixth-round technical decision to retain the IBF title in October when the Cuban was cut and couldn’t continue.

“THE RING editors are excited to fill a championship vacancy, particularly when the two contenders are as deserving as Hernandez and Cunningham,” said Michael Rosenthal, editor of the magazine. “I think consensus is that these are the two best 200-pounders in the world.”

With Huck leaving the division to pursue a heavyweight strap that becomes a fight for a lineal title cause it's now a clear 1 vs 2. Hopefully one of them hang on it for a minute, they don't strike me as the type to fly to heavyweight based on their styles/chin. Hopefully this one gets a clear conclusion as Cunningham seemed to be coming on at the time of the stoppage.

bad blood.

vazquez has been talking nonstop shit about donaire and it got heated at the presser today. These pictures are after vazquez ripped off donaire's hat and threw it on the ground. Both of their wives were going at it at eachother too apparently. Vazquez called donaire's wife a bitch or something like that the other day.

Why is Donarie fighting this guy? Last time I saw Vazquez Jr he was on his back looking up at the lights. Another pointless fight by the so-called #4 P4P fighter.

and Mr. pound 4 pound king is fighting cotto, a damaged fighter according to u so continue being a hypocrite.

to answer ur question donaire challenged arce who beat Vasquez but arce decided to vacate the belt and fight someone else so donaire is fighting Vasquez, who is a decent fight since donaire is moving up in weight and this will be his first fight at this weight class.
