I think they may just be trying to give him a big name.
Even though he battered Acosta, unfortunately the majority of the boxing world doesn't acknowledge that as a big name. Like when Khan fought MAB. It was unnecessary, but at the same time it looks good on a resume.

That's the only reasoning I can make of it.

I'm late on commenting lol but can't believe Acosta fought the whole fight against the ropes and preferred to fight that way. First half of the fight looked like Acosta was way to efficient with his counter punches, he must have worn down from the constant pressure from Rios.

I know it's early, but Garcia is headed towards Trainer of the Year with Donaire and Rios winning big. I don't see donaire losing this year and bam bam will probably be matched well for the remainder of the year so I think he'll get it. That's great for him.

and even if you don't like bam bam his win is good for the sport. a new mexican american star lots of great potential matchups on the horizon

Garcia's camp is going to blow up with calls from prospects wanting to train at his gym. He really is in the lead for trainer of the year.

Speaking of trainers, I can't believe Dzinziruk hired McGirt for his fight against Martinez. Switching trainers before his biggest fight, I don't get it. Then Buddy McGirt? I don't get that either...

I can't remember the last time McGirt's improved a fighter.

Rios showed he can take it to the head. I would've liked Acosta to go downstairs on him a little, especially in the 4th round when Rios was clearly hurt but that was a nasty barrage against the ropes to put Acosta away. After I saw Acosta could hurt Rios I thought the fight was his but Rios definitely beasted through that. Props to him.

They should be trying to match Rios with the winner of Vazquez/Zappa to get some unification going. There's some dope fights for Rios at 135 that's for sure.

Just watched Rios vs. Acosta

Rios is entertaining. I love how Cortez has to pull him back at the end of every round, the kid loves to fight. I hope that He'll continue to improve and provide some more brutal k.O's.
