Bernard Hopkins Vows: I Will Knock Jean Pascal Out

BERNARD HOPKINS, Former Two-Division World Champion and Future Hall of Famer

On his fight against Jean Pascal:

"I am doing something out of character. I am fighting in Canada. The stakes are raised more than normal when you walk into another guy's territory.

"I have no problem fighting in Canada. I am at my best when I walk into another guy's home. If he is good, I have to be super good.

"There is no magic trick to this. December 18 you are going to see me win this fight. Not just go the distance, but win by TKO or stoppage.

"I get a chance to be the oldest fighter in history to win a title. I get to continue to make history. How many times can an athlete do that?

"Winning is the most important thing. This is the playoffs. There is no tomorrow. No excuse. I am not going to embarrass myself.

"A lot of people believe that I can and will win this fight."

On Jean Pascal:

"There is added pressure for him when you fight in your home. You get nervous because you don't want to disappoint.

"A young guy like Pascal brings confidence to the table. He is confident. He is the champion.

"Pascal challenged me. Pascal called me out. He is risking his belt, and I am going to make him wish he hadn't.

"Being young is a blessing. Having a young mind, young body, but you don't look at things the way an accomplished person does.

"Either I am in trouble or he [Pascal] is in trouble. If they have told him the truth about me and my abilities, he is in trouble.

"Pascal called my name. The pressure is more on him than on me.

"I am going to disect this guy. I am going to take him apart. Take him out of his comfort zone.

"I have to show that this guy is talented, but show a different level of education on my part. I am going to do the opposite of everything he does."

On training:

"Training when you are older, you do get aches and pains that you didn't experience. You get up at 6am when you don't have to. That is the trickery of fighting at this age. It is a psychological thing. A mental thing that comes with experience.

"I love training in my hometown. People love you, protect you and respect you. People see me and I don't have to have body guards. I am the most approachable athlete who has ever walked this land.

"Boxing is mental. The car doesn't run the engine, the engine runs the car. The wear and tear have not taken their toll on my intellect.

"Once you get old, your worst enemy is youth. Ask some housewives that. Ask some corporate guys that, but every once in a while you get something different...and that is me. I am the most health conscious, clean-living person on earth."

NAAZIM RICHARDSON, Hopkins' Trainer

"Bernard is a historian. I see additional motivation in him. He is very interested in increasing the quality of his legacy and that is what this fight will do.

"Jean Pascal has physical ability, but you can't measure a man's ambition just by watching his past fights.

"Froch was able to meet and exceed Pascal's level of ambition, and that is what Bernard can do as well."

I almost bought tickets to the event in Anaheim, but decided to hold off for a week or two. Then I saw the card fall apart. Rios out. Gomez out. Chavez Jr. out.
I would go to see Donaire and Soto, but the match ups don't seem very intriguing to me.
So, I'm kind of over it.

Looking forward to the Khan vs Maidana fight more than anything.

Pascal reminds me of a young Roy Jones. Not as good, maybe a B level prime Roy Jones, but that's all it will take to beat Hopkins that night.

Yes. Here are some fun facts:

-Pascal's idol is Roy Jones.

-Hopkins arch rival is Roy Jones.

-Pascal was 6 years old when Hopkins turned Pro

-If Hopkins wins, he will become the oldest person ever to win a world championship belt (george foreman was a few months younger).

-Pascal's amateur record was 103-18.

-Pascal lost to Alfredo Angulo in the Second Americas Qualifier (2004).

-In school Pascal played ice hockey.

-Bernard Hopkins was born in 1965.

-When Pascal was 3, Hopkins was just starting his 5 year Prison stint.

-Like Hopkins, Pascal stays in incredible shape and believes in a healthy lifestyle.

-Like Hopkins, Pascal is incredibly concerned with his place in boxing history and strives to be one of the greatest. They are both students of the game.

-Hopkins always wins when he's a big underdog (trinidad, tarver, pavlik).

Luis Franco is fighting tonight on Showtime. Franco was a high level Cuban amateur although never reached top level amateur success like some of the other Cuban's gaining notoriety in their divisions. The one thing similar to them though is that he isn't being babied. He's sitting at 7-0 and tonight he's fighting 15-1 Eric Hunter already has wins over Wilton Hilario 12-1-1 at the time, and beat tough journeyman Walter Estrada in his 5th pro fight (Gamboa fought Estrada in his 14th.)

Freddie Roach trained undefeated crusierweight Lateef Kayode fights in the main event in a fight he should win clean..

How about punch yourself in the face if you don't go. As soon as I heard about this being announced to be in Washington, I thought for sure you'd go. Your posting rights should be removed from this forum if you don't go lol
the only thing holding me back is that I've been suffering from these fucked up migraines on a daily basis so i never know how I'm going to feel its day to day

Nonito Donaire Looks Brutal in Stoppage of Sidorenko

By Mark Vester

At the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, Nonito Donaire (25-1-2, 17KOs) punished former bantamweight champion Wladimir Sidorenko (22-3-2, 7KOs) for a fourth round stoppage. Sidorenko went down three times in the contest. Donaire is already set to face WBO/WBC bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel on February 19 on HBO.

Donaire-Sidorenko was thought by many to be the televised main event of Top Rank's "In Harm's Way" pay-per-view, but it appears Humberto Soto-Urbano Antillon replaced it on top.

Donaire came out with hard power shots in the first round that were hitting Sidorenko flush. In the closing moments of the first round, a hard combo sent Sidorenko down hard. He was very lucky to get up at the bell because he was in serious trouble.

The second saw Donaire pumping the jab on the smaller Sidorenko and following up with power shots. Sidorenko tightened up his defense but he got hit every time he opened up with punches. In the final minute of the third, Sidorenko went down for the second time in the contest from a hard counter left hook. This time around he wasn't that hurt and Donaire realized that. Instead of jumping on Sidorenko, he started using his jab and following with shots.

By the start of the fourth, Sidorenko's face was a busted up mess. Sidorenko, now a bloody mess, went down again from hard shots and this time the ref had seen enough. It did not appear that Sidorenko was making it up.
