Rachel Donaire speaks out against Michael Koncz

By Rich Mason

In her Facebook and Twitter page, Rachel Donaire voiced out her opinion regarding Koncz who recently affected the cancellation of Filipino fighter, Ernie Sanchez’s fight in the United States in what could have been a good payday and career opportunity for Sanchez.

In her Facebook post dated February 15, Donaire shared a news link from Manila Standard about how Philippine managers are showing their dissatisfaction against Koncz after his most recent action. She then posted this comment.

“This has been a long time coming. Way before this I have said he needs to stop meddling with other people. When Nonito signed Top Rank in 2008, Koncz explicitly said Nonito was supposed to sign under MP first and they'd handle Top Rank. But then that would undermine all Cameron Dunkin had done to get Nonito to that point, in addition Koncz would be collecting his fee for doing nothing so Nonito signed with his manager to Top Rank. In 2011, when we had a misunderstanding with Top Rank, I had stated that Koncz was the major reason Nonito was never allowed on Pacquiao's undercard. Koncz has been known to pull fighters off cards that he personally isn't collecting money from. I've seen it with many Filipino fighters because he wants to collect from all Filipino fighters. I believe Filipinos have fought their way to get their due respect and shouldn't have to bow to the will of some foreigner thinking he is the gatekeeper to all that's boxing. It's not fair that these boxers fight for barely anything when they have worked so hard to get where they are. And I know I'll get flak for saying this but honestly, I'm sick of hearing the same story of a fighter training so hard and getting pulled off a card because of this guy. Unfortunately, until Pacquiao kicks him out and takes away his power, he will continue to push his influence to try to control RP boxers. #rantover”

Nonito Donaire Jr. in a 2011 interview with Examiner’s Dennis Guillermo admitted that Koncz kicked him out of a Pacquiao undercard. The four time world champ had always wanted to fight in the undercard of Pacquiao in the past but was prevented in participating in one by Koncz. This would have granted the fans of both boxers to see them in action together in one event.

See Link: (The truth behind the Pacquiao-Donaire rivalry - National Filipino Sports | Examiner.com)

A move is brewing among managers, promoters and match-makers in the Philippines that are looking at a petition to declare Koncz, a Canadian citizen that resides in the Philippines, as a “persona non grata” because of what they classified as his abuse against Filipino boxers and managers.

“Persona non grata” refers to a foreign person whose entering or remaining in a particular country is prohibited by that country's government. It is the most serious form of censure which one country can apply to foreign diplomats, who are otherwise protected by diplomatic immunity from arrest and other normal kinds of prosecution.

In a follow-up interview by Philboxing.com, Mrs. Donaire showed support to the group of managers about their planned move regarding Koncz.

"I applaud the managers who are taking a stand against what they believe to be unfair. Honestly I think the managers that have had this bad experience done to their fighters and are not signing the petition because of fear of losing or straining a friendship should not be managers at all. As a manager, you must fight for the best interest of your fighter. If you are too afraid to stand up and make a difference against injustice, then you should probably not be a manager because you are failing to do what’s in the best interest of your fighter.” Mrs. Donaire stated.

I'm sure they would've loved showing them too. But if there's royalty in the first row, it's gonna be pretty damn hard to push people out of those seats to make room for a table lol Not sure but Monaco has to be a really affluent area I would think. It sounds like HBO needed to make more effort than it was worth than people were willing to concede anything for HBO to make it work for them
Yeah probably something like that. Boxing was big there in the 70s and 80s then not so much but over the past few years some very rich people have been bringing boxing back there hence GGG fighting there a couple times and K2 three or four times over the past couple years...they are building boxing culture and regular cards are occurring now.

I've always thought that people overlooked Pacquiao's effectiveness and footwork as the primary reason for his punching power. That straight left in his earlier days was using all of his weight. Dudes would fly straight backwards even if they weren't hurt. His calfs are enormous.

The main thing I'm talking about as far as wanting to see it was the slipping punches and landing hooks like he does though. The in and out movement is cool but to see someone slip punches that well would be dope.

Floyd has gotten better at it. Best example I can think of I guess. There's a couple gifs/clips of him slipping a punch straight back then countering and then ducking under the next punch that comes towards him. He did it against JMM and Mosley

That's called the pull counter, or there are other variations of the term, when he pulls back and counters quickly. Yeah he's really good at that. Gotta be really athletic, very fast reflexes to do it well. Lot's of oldschool guys did that Archie Moore for example and a million other guys Roy Jones etc.

Team Maidana says Mayweather fight not a done deal
February 16th, 2014 | Post Comment - No Comments

marcos rene maidana floyd mayweather jr amir khan By Allan Fox: In response to the rumors that WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s) has already been locked in for the May 3rd fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. in Las Vegas, Nevada, Team Maidana came out with an official statement on the issue. The statement says that the Mayweather-Maidana fight isn’t a done deal, and that there are still other fighters in the mix for the Mayweather. They didn’t specifically mention any names, but Amir Khan is obviously one of the other strong candidates for the fight.

The statement goes on to say that they’re counting on hearing something soon about the fight.

Here’s the the statement from Team Maidana:

“Considering that rumors have been circulating in the last few hours addressing a “done deal” fight between WBA Welterweight champion Marcos Maidana and WBC champ Floyd Mayweather Jr. we want to clarify that those versions are not accurate.

Maidana is well aware that he is indeed a firm candidate to face Mayweather Jr. next May 3rd but the fight is far from being made or confirmed as other fighters are still also in the mix. Hopefully we will have news in the next few days but in the meantime we don’t want to confuse the fans or the boxing press. Maidana of course wants to unify titles with Mayweather but for now we will have to wait.”

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer told ESPN that he doesn’t know who Mayweather will be facing next, but he has a good idea who that fighter will be. Schaefer isn’t going to let anyone know, of course, because it’s Mayweather’s job to announce his opponents. He’s going to pick the right time before he reveals it to the boxing public. The fact that he hasn’t yet gives you a good idea about the long decision making process that is going on with him and Team Mayweather. He doesn’t want to rush into something and find out that he picked an opponent that boxing fans won’t pay to see him fight.

It’s possible for Mayweather to get good PPV numbers whether he faces Khan or Maidana. Mayweather will just need to add a good co-feature bout that fans are interested in seeing, and that will make up for the lack of interest from fans seeing him fight Khan or Maidana.

Schaefer says Broner-Khan fight isn’t happening

amir khan adrien broner By Chris Williams: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer responded to the rumors circulating about a possible Amir Khan vs. Adrien Broner fight on May 3rd by saying that the rumors aren’t true. Khan and Broner won’t be fighting each other on Floyd Mayweather Jr’s undercard on May 3rd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

For Khan, this has got to be viewed as good news because he badly wants to get the fight with Mayweather on that date, and he’s starting to show his desperation/frustration in some of the comments he’s been making on his social media site.

Steve Kim said on his twitter “Richard Schaefer on Khan-Broner rumors, if they had any merit:”No- and I think I would know about it.” #boxing.”

So these rumors have about as much truth in them as the so-called sparring session that took place between Khan and Andre Ward in the past.

Well, if Khan doesn’t get the Mayweather fight then he can still give Breidis Prescott or Lamont Peterson a rematch to try and avenge his defeats to them. Heh-heh. When you think about it, Broner is still the much better option for Khan if he could get that fight if faced with no opponent, but Golden Boy would probably not Khan anywhere near Broner fight now with him coming off of his one-sided defeat at the hands of Marcos Maidana.

Khan wants/needs the Mayweather fight right about now to give his career a big shot in the arm because it’s reached a free fall after his back to back defeats to Lamont Peterson and Danny Garcia. While Khan has won his last two fights against Carlos Molina and Julio Diaz, he chose not to fight a good opponent, Devon Alexander, when Golden Boy offered him the fight last December. Khan decided it was better to sit and wait on the Mayweather fight, and that wait has turned into 10 months of inactivity.

TIRED OF WAITING, AMIR KHAN BRACES FOR PLAN B AFTER MAKING DESPERATE PLEA FOR MAYWEATHER FIGHT
By Ben Thompson | February 15, 2014

"If it's not Floyd, then whoever he fights, good luck. All this waiting around is not good for boxing fans and the fighters," stated former jr. welterweight champion Amir Khan, who took to Twitter earlier today to vent his frustrations as he awaits the decision of undefeated pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather regarding his May 3 opponent. It's been nearly two weeks since Mayweather first announced that he would let fans decide between Khan and WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana as his next opponent. Though Khan was the winner of a poll posted on the Mayweather Promotions website, Maidana was far ahead of him in polls on various other websites, including ESPN.com and RingTv.com.

It's unclear as to which poll, or how many for that matter, Mayweather was taking into consideration before making his decision, but for whatever reason, an announcement has yet to be made, which is clearly giving Khan serious concern about whether or not he'll get the fight. In fact, Khan is now making plans to meet with Golden Boy Promotions some time next week to discuss alternatives should he not be announced as Mayweather's next opponent. That being said, Khan has not given up all hope and he's made one final plea for his fans to send tweets to Mayweather, urging him to "give the fans what they want". Check out Khan's series of tweets below:

so true, straight comedy!

Listening to fans negotiate boxing matches is pure comedy

By Kevin Davis

Boxing fans are the most delusional fans in the world when it comes to the sport they love. They want to be a part of the conversations so bad, because they love the sport so much they just start talking about contracts and budgets, to the point it makes you laugh, but what even more scary is that they are serious!

Alan Kremer, a sportswriter for a local newspaper interviews a boxing fan on the streets, who gives advice on fixing the Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao issue. One fan said "Just go to Pacquiao promoter and say how much money you want to make the fight happen..here is 100 million and Floyd is going to make near 300 million anyhow." yes that would work in a perfect world in which everyone is crazy. How about this one "Showtime need to buy HBO out because they are about to shutdown anyway so they will have Manny Pacquiao." Yes that's remotely the dumbest thing anyone could ever believe, the baby company Showtime can buy out the giants at HBO, wow. No one watches HBO..are you serious?

One fan believes that if Mayweather would just split the money down the middle with Manny Pacquiao that it would solve the problem..No shit it would. I would never give someone more money than they are worth just to make a fight. I could see if it's something small. but this is far more money than I think Manny Pacquiao is worth. He's on the decline and Mayweather numbers are at it's highest point right now.

Khan: Mayweather Jr. can’t out-box me
February 17th, 2014 | Post Comment - 113 Comments

floyd mayweather jr amir khan By Chris Williams: Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) believes that Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s) will lose for the first time if he chooses to give him the fight on May 3rd. Khan won’t try and slug with Mayweather like he did in the past in his losses to Breidis Prescott, Lamont Peterson and Danny Garcia. Khan instead says he’ll use his feet and his hand speed to out-box Mayweather, and get the better of him in every area, according to the sweetscience.com.

As far as Mayweather’s poll goes, Khan says that the fans have spoken and that they want him to be the one that fights Mayweather. Khan said that the other independent polls that didn’t require users to log in with their twitter or Facebook accounts were polls were casual boxing fans voted. Khan believes that the hardcore fans selected him from the Mayweather poll.

“No fighter can out-box me,” Khan said to sweetscience. “Floyd won’t do it either. I can’t see Floyd out-boxing me…he can never dictate a fight. I won’t let him control the fight. I beat him with footwork and speed. I can keep up with him in many departments…I’m not desperate. I’m just responding to the fans. I bring fans from the UK, Asia and the Muslim community.”

Khan is dreaming pretty badly if he thinks he’ll out-box Mayweather. He does have the skills to do that, and it’ll be too easy for Mayweather to figure out Khan’s style. If guys like Julio Diaz and Danny Garcia were able to easily figure out what Khan was doing in the ring, then you’d have to expect Mayweather to do the same. Khan needs to give Mayweather some credit here.

It seems like Khan feels that he’s already got Mayweather beat in his mind. If Khan really thinks he’s better than Mayweather then why bother fighting him? Khan felt the same way about Breidis Prescott after he was knocked out by him, and that’s one of the reasons why he didn’t fight him again. He felt he’d beat him no problem in the rematch. If Khan believes himself to be better than Mayweather then he can simply claim victory now and move onto opposition that he doesn’t think he can beat. But this we all know that one of the attractions in fighting Mayweather is the career payday his opponents get.

With Khan now having lost 2 out of his last 4 fights, he might not have too many more paydays left in the sport. When Golden Boy Promotions finally steps Khan up against a decent welterweight, Khan could lose again. Once he gets beaten again, it’s going to create the need for Golden Boy to back him up once again and put him in with 2 or 3 more weak opponents in hope that he can improve enough to compete with the best fighters at 147. That’s what Golden Boy just finished doing with Khan by matching him with Carlos Molina and Julio Diaz. They matched against non relevant opposition to get his confidence back and to help him improve so that he can match up against the better fighters. If Khan gets the Mayweather fight, he’ll probably lose badly, and Golden Boy can start the process of trying to build him back up again with more tune-ups.
