Breakdown of the $40 million offer by Mayweather to Pacquiao
February 11th, 2014 | Post Comment - 9 Comments

manny pacquiao floyd mayweather jr By Yan D: First of all this is my first ever article on this site so I’d like to start by thanking BN24 for letting us share our views about the most beautiful sport on the planet and thank you to every bloggers, without our difference in opinions we wouldn’t have debate. Second, English is actually my second language so please forgive me for every mistakes I could have made writing this text.

Okay, enough gibberish, let’s get back to our topic. Every thing has been said about a potential showdown between the P4P king Floyd Mayweather Jr and former P4P #1 Manny Pacquiao. Accusations have been made by both sides regarding who is to blame for the fight not happening starting with Floyd’s public accusation of Manny taking PEDs (which is view by a sign of fear by Pacman fans), Manny refusing blood test (which looked really fishy for Money’s fan and most of the boxing community), the mediation over the cut-off date, the constant contradictions from both camps and I could go on for a few pages, there is enough drama to make a sitcom that would last longer then Dallas.
The last being Manny asking Floyd to fight for Charity and to call him 24/7 which prompted me to study the 40 million dollar offer Floyd gave Manny when he called him personally to make the fight.

The main argument of Floyd’s fan about this offer is Manny never seen that kind of money before and probably never will without Floyd. On the other end Manny’s fan claim that 40 million out of a 300 million dollar fight is a rip off and that offer was simply a smokescreen. Ok both arguments make sense but are they realistic???? Ask yourself this : Can Manny make 40 million without Floyd?? The answer is easy, it is NO!! Facts are there to prove it. The most Manny ever made for a fight was roughly 30 millions in his fights against Mosley and Marquez 3 ( Manny Pacquiao Career Earnings Will Reach $300 Million With Rios Fight - Forbes ) now out of those 30 million Pacquiao has to pay a cut to his promoter Bob Arum, trainer Freddie Roach and Counselor Michael Konz. Nobody knows for sure what the “cut” is, but most rumors say that Arum takes around 25-30% and Roach takes around 10%, but this is speculation what is certain is Pacman NEVER gets the full share of his guaranteed purse or the PPVs money except in his own country ( refer to the forbe’s article). Bottom line $40 million for a single fight is BY FAR the biggest payday Manny Pacquiao would have receive in his career considering he would not have to give a cut to Arum since Mayweather was taking Top Rank out of the equation.

Next let’s ask ourselves something else, was 40 million such a bad split for Pacquiao? Most if not all Manny’s fan would respond yes in a heart beat, but when you take your time to look at it I’m not so sure about it. I have been reading blogs and what always comes back in every debate is how much money a fight between Floyd and Manny would generate. The consensus is normally around 250-300 million which in not far-fetch considering the highest grossing fight in history happened last September and generated around 150 million in PPV and a bit over 200 million in total revenue ( Boxing Mayweather win top-grossing fight - ESPN ) and that a May-Pac showdown would definitely break this mark. Manny fans are quick to point out that a 250-40 million split is unfair and it sure is but this is not how it works. In the Canelo fight, Money racked in around 80-85 million, Saul going home with around 20-25. So out of the 200 million half went to the final fight the split being 4 to 1 for Floyd or 80-20 for those who like percentage. Now for Pacquiao a 80-20 is out of the question and I agree with him it is not a fair deal but was 40 million really a 80-20 deal??

Let’s take into consideration that half the revenue of the fight just like the Canelo fights goes into the column “expenses” which cover everything from renting the MGM, publicity, the promotion, paying the undercard fighters, setting up the event, Showtime or/and HBO cut, GBP cut ( I am leaving put Top Rank because that is what the 40 million offer was all about), the advisers cut (Al Haymon and Michael Koncz, yes they get a cut) etc, etc. ( most of that money has to come upfront and comes out of MP and GPB pockets), what is finally left for both fighters is more likely to be 125-150 million for both fighters. So now with Floyd and GPB assuming the risks of putting the money upfront financing the event ( Yes there is always a risk ) it is normal that Floyd is getting the lion share. So bottom line we really more talking about a 70-30 split which I’ll admit myself doesn’t seem really fair but considering Floyd was looking for a 60-40 it was a good negotiation start with Manny having the possibility to ask for 50 million and demanding the PPVs in his home country as oppose to no PPVs at all but we all know what happened next. He declined the offer and ask again for 50/50 when he was in no position to ask for that alone unless he wanted to involve TR and even then with Top Rank taking a piece of the revenue along with GBP the 125-150 million window would probably be reduce 110-130 with Manny having to give 25-30% of his purse to Bob. So even with the 50/50 deal even if he would have racked in more money ( 60-65 million) when you take away Bob’s cut you truly are in the range of 40-50 million, so I don’t think the offer was that bogus considering he would probably make has much money with a 50/50 deal with Bob which leads me to believe who the real block is for the fight.

To finish I would like to make it clear that in no way do I think a professional boxer is afraid to fight another anybody who says this is not a true fan of boxing otherwise just come out and say SRL was afraid of Pryor. Boxing is and always has been a business and it is even more true today with the multiple belts and TV networks. I would be the first to buy the Pac-May fight but as of now from a business point of view no deal has been made so let’s not get the ego of a few men get in the way of this amazing sports, so many fighters deserve our attention and the spotlight so until they actually fight let us enjoy the sport we all love.

Golovkin’s promoter not interested in Lara bout

gennady golovkin erislandy lara By Chris Williams: If you were hoping to see a fight between Cuban Erislandy Lara and WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin in April or anytime in the future, you can pretty much forget about it. Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions says that Lara isn’t someone that they have on their radar.

Loeffler wants to match Golovkin against one of the middleweight champions like Peter Quillin or Sergio Martinez in a unification bout. Loeffler points out that Lara doesn’t fight for HBO like Golvokin, and that he’s had draws in fights against Vanes Martirosyan and Carlos Molina in the past. He also says that Lara doesn’t fight in the same division as Golovkin.

Loeffer said this on his social media site: “GGG response to Lara: Are you Serious?”

“He [Lara] is not approved by HBO and never on our radar, he should be calling out Quillin, if he wins, he becomes interesting,” Loeffler said. “Lara fights on Showtime and had draws with Vanes and Molina, GGG vs Stevens=high ratings, who watches Lara? Lara fights on Showtime and is Jr Middle, why would he be on our radar? Lara should call out Floyd, same promoter same TV and he beats both Khan and Maidana, should be easy fight to make. Good fight between 2 solid guys. Yes, same promoter same TV and same weight, makes more sense for Lara to call out Floyd.”

Robert Garcia feels that Marcos Maidana’s upset over Adrien Broner itself is worthy of a shot at Floyd Mayweather

By Chris Robinson

When Floyd Mayweather took to social media to ask the fans who his next opponent should be, there was definitely a strong reaction.

Mayweather threw up two potential opponents, British star and former titlist Amir Khan and Argentina’s Marcos Maidana, in an effort to get some further discussion going on his May 3 ring return inside of the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Catching up with Maidana’s trainer Robert Garcia recently, he reacted to Mayweather’s latest move.

“You know what? Floyd Mayweather is Floyd Mayweather,” Garcia explained. “He’s the man in boxing. Why he does it? Because he knows he can do it. I don’t blame him. He’s the best at what he does. He’s the one that makes the most money in the sport. Why not do it?”

Garcia went on to add that Maidana is as deserving of a shot at Mayweather as anyone else based off of his recent run of success that has included dramatic victories over Jesus Soto Karass, Josesito Lopez, and Adrien Broner.

“Especially what he did with Broner,” Garcia reflected of Maidana’s upset this past December that left the sport buzzing and saw him crowned as the WBA welterweight champion of the world.

“Nobody thought we’d beat Broner,” Garcia added. “He not only beat him, but the way he beat him. He pretty much dominated almost every round. He not only put a beating on him but he also humiliated him. I think that win itself deserves the shot at Mayweather, honestly.”

How can GGG duck Lara when Golden Boy fighter's can't fight HBO? Use some common sense, man. And again, GGG has only said Yes he'd like to fight Mayweather when people ask him about Floyd, GGG has always maintained his goal is Sergio Martinez.

Lara has called out Mayweather as well. He said his "hit list" is Mayweather #1, GGG #2, Canelo #3 and that he beats all three easy.

Alfredo Angulo: Boxing is a Short Career and You have to make the Most of It

ALFREDO ANGULO, Former WBO Interim Junior Middleweight World Champion

"Camp is going great. I have never felt better in the gym.

"My hands have definitely been doing the talking. My sparring partners will tell you that.

"My team is working so hard as we do every camp.

"If [my trainer] Virgil [Hunter] is happy, then I am happy because I know that I am physically on point.

"My advice to all kids when they talk to me about boxing is that school comes first since it will help you all your life. Boxing is a short career and you have to make the most of it while you can."

Canelo Alvarez: I moved on from the loss against Mayweather, I have a Strong Mindset

CANELO ALVAREZ, Former World Champion

"This fight ahead is a hard one. There will be a lot of punches thrown. Two different styles will clash in the ring and there will be a lot of action. It will be a war that we're all going to enjoy.

"Angulo is a strong fighter. He is a fighter who hits hard and can last a long time in the ring. He is a fighter that always makes his fights tough and you have to work hard to beat him. That's what will happen on March 8 and that's what we'll hope to see.

"We decided to train in San Diego because it is a beautiful city with great climate all year round. The weather was a deciding factor.

[On coming off of a loss against Floyd Mayweather] "I consider myself a person with a strong mindset and that's how I moved on from the loss against Mayweather. I always train to win, like everybody else and unfortunately last September was not the case.

"I'm training to make history and to be one of the best in boxing history. One defeat is not everything. The biggest boxers in history have been defeated. For instance, Muhammad Ali was defeated and he came back and made history. So, here I am, making history, moving forward. I fight to make boxing history. That is why I fight."

I have to research which polls, but in 4 independent polls, including ESPN's poll, Maidana won yet Khan somehow won Mayweather's poll. I'm telling you, it was fixed the whole damn time.

This guy is a complete idiot. Does he not understand that at the time the offer was made both had ppv numbers that were in the same range and only separated by a thousand here or a thousand there and that both guys were tied as the #1 p4p or going back and forth as #1 or #2 P4P? Someone tell that nigga to shut the fuck up, for real.

I just respond accordingly when people say Floyd ducks people so I say it back about other fighters. We will also, as is our-stated mission, continue to donate to boxing-related causes such as Youth and Amateur Groups, College Boxing Programs and former fighters in dire financial and medical situations".

CANELO ALVAREZ: "THIS FIGHT AHEAD IS A HARD ONE...IT WILL BE A WAR THAT WE'RE ALL GOING TO ENJOY"
By Press Release | February 11, 2014

Mexican boxing superstar Canelo Alvarez and his vicious, hard-hitting foe, Alfredo "El Perro" Angulo have been busy at their training camps in San Diego and Oakland, Calif., respectively as they ready themselves for their upcoming showdown on Saturday, March 8 live on SHOWTIME PPV® from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. When someone gets the title of "most avoided fighter," typically it's because the fighters themselves usually start putting up excuses of why they won't fight certain guys. I wish I could find the tweet but Collazo said he would fight Mayweather, Maidana, whoever, but not Thurman lol
