I hear you but I dont think its necessarily the fighter himself who is scared or wont fight certain guys. I think its the promoters and camps. Now for Callazo's sake if he actually said he would not fight Thurman than u have a point because he is in no position to say who he wont fight because he wants a title shot and beating Thurman could get him one. Its all about the risk versus the pay day to alot of these folks. I dont think its actual fighters being scared to fight though. If thats the case they shouldnt be boxing in the first place. JESSIE VARGAS: "LAST LEFTY I FOUGHT, I KNOCKED HIM OUT VICIOUSLY...I WILL BECOME THE NEW WBA WORLD CHAMPION"
By Percy Crawford | February 12, 2014

"I have never had a problem with lefties, but I'm not coming into this fight with any type of negativity. Every time I have fought against a lefty, I have had great results. I'm excited to become the new world champion and for me to show my talent to the world. As I said, and I will repeat it, the last lefty I fought, I knocked him out viciously and I'm coming in with everything. I think you are gonna see a stronger, faster and more experienced fighter...come April 12th, he better come well prepared because I know I will for sure. I'm coming for that victory, I'm coming for that belt and I will become the new WBA world champion," stated undefeated jr. welterweight contender Jessie Vargas, who talked about his upcoming April 12 clash with WBA jr. welterweight champion Khabib Allakhverdiev on the undercard of Pacquiao vs. Bradley 2. Check out what else he had to say!

PC: April 12th against Khabib Allakhverdiev on the Pacquiao/Bradley card for the WBA junior welterweight title. Tell us about it, man!

JV: Thanks for having me and giving me a call. I'm excited, man. It's a big event, huge event, and I'm very thankful to be involved with an event of this magnitude once again. I want to thank my manager Cameron [Dunkin], who got me here, and Top Rank. I'm very excited. This is what I have dreamed of since I was 8 years old. It has been my dream to become a world champion and the opportunity has been given to me now thankfully on April 12th and we are working very hard to come up with the victory on April 12th. Like I said, I'm very excited and have been training hard for some time now. I am very focused and just training. Any other obstacles I have going on right now, I am putting to the side and focusing 100% on this fight.

PC: Are you going full go right now or just slowly working your way into a camp because it's still pretty early?

JV: It's a little early, without a doubt. I'm working with my new trainer, Ismael Salas, and that's the reason that we have been in the gym for so long to adapt to what he is showing me. And he is adapting to me as a fighter as well and getting to know me. I'm just very excited with every day that goes by. We are putting in good work at the gym, and although I'm taking it easy, I'm staying in shape and maintaining a nice weight; that way we don't have to worry about anything in the future when camp starts. We will have the weight set when camp starts and not be too far off.

PC: Ideally, a fighter never wants to go into the biggest fight of their career with a new trainer, which is what you will be doing. Was this the perfect case scenario to know about this fight early in the game so you guys could have this adapting period?

JV: Exactly! I think we picked the right amount of time to adapt to each other. It seems like God is putting all of the tasks together where it's set in place correctly. I got in contact with Salas and we kicked it off just fine. We have had very good sparring, and to look for a lefty is not easy, but thankfully we have some and I look at it the same way; God has put these guys in the Top Rank Gym just for me to pick them up basically. He is guiding me along this path to victory and I just gotta make sure I'm doing everything correctly to assure that I don't fall off of the current path that I am on now. I'm just very excited. Every day that passes by, I'm thinking about the fight and I'm just happy and excited for the opportunity, and I have to come up with the victory. I'm not letting this opportunity slip by, that's for sure. I'm not; not one bit. I'm starting right now and I'm not gonna stop until that last bell rings.

PC: Other than knowing Khabib is a southpaw and undefeated like yourself, do you know much more about him or will you have to research him a little more in camp?

JV: I don't know much about him just yet. As you said, I do know that he is undefeated and he is a lefty and he has to have some skills in order for him to hold a world title. I hear that he can move around as well as he can fight on the inside. We just have to sit down and study him. Right now, we're not really studying him because we are just training to maintain the weight and stay in good shape and adapting to my new trainer; that comes first. But as soon as my camp starts, I'll have my trainers study him and he will let me know what tactic he wants us to come in with.

PC: Are you not a big film guy? Do you prefer your trainers to handle that and you just take a quick glance at your opponents on tape?

JV: Yeah, I just take a glance at them here and there and that will be it. More than anything, I let my trainers check 'em out and they tell me from there, or he will tell me to check out certain rounds, I'm sure. As I told you, this is my first time working with Salas, so whatever he says; if he feels I should sit down and take a look at the video, I will. I prefer to take a quick glance at him and I will figure out his style right away. No style has ever been complicated for me, thankfully. I know how to adapt to any style, so I'm not really worried about it. I never was, ever since I was a kid. I've known how to adapt to any style. There is nothing else that's gonna be different. I think I will have the advantage in height and strength. As you know, my last fight at 140 was a good victory and the one before that, which was a lefty, ended with a knockout victory; an explosive knockout victory. I have never had a problem with lefties, but I'm not coming into this fight with any type of negativity. Every time I have fought against a lefty, I have had great results. I'm excited to become the new world champion and for me to show my talent to the world. As I said, and I will repeat it, the last lefty I fought, I knocked him out viciously and I'm coming in with everything. I think you are gonna see a stronger, faster and more experienced fighter.

PC: You're undefeated and you have faced southpaws, so obviously that's not your kryptonite, but is there a major adjustment for you when you're facing a southpaw?

JV: As of now, I'm just adapting to my trainer. Of course there are little things you concentrate on when you're fighting lefties, but like I said, camp hasn't officially started, but I'm not really...not to sound cocky or anything, man, but I just tell it how it is; I'm not worried about any lefties and he is no different. He is a good fighter, so I won't disrespect him in any way, but I have never had a problem with lefties or any fighters for that matter. Right-handed or lefty, it doesn't matter. I have very positive thoughts for this fight. I just feel it and I know everything is going to go my way. Camp hasn't even started yet and thankfully everything is being positioned correctly in my career as of now. I'm really prepared for the best Khabib come April 12th, whether he wants to fight, he wants to box, or run around. One thing for sure is he is gonna feel my power from the beginning and we will see how he reacts from that.

PC: I think you have shown a very versatile game being that you can box, fight on the inside, or whatever the fight calls for. Do you think that makes your opponent's job even harder because when they watch film on you, they don't really know what to prepare for?

JV: Yeah, I feel that way. I adapt to them and they can't adapt to me because I find out the easiest way to fight them, the best way to fight them, and their weaknesses. As a young fighter, I'm only 24 years old, I'm still learning, so I'm only gonna get better. I'm the type of fighter that likes to learn and absorb as much as I can in order for me to become the best out there, which is my ultimate goal. For him to become a world champion, I respect that, but come April 12th, he better come well prepared because I know I will for sure. I'm coming for that victory, I'm coming for that belt and I will become the new WBA world champio

Promotional changes in the career of boxer Thomas Dulorme

Junior welterweight contender, Thomas Dulorme ( 20-1, 14 KO's ) from Puerto Rico not only moved his training camp to Oxnard , California under the tutelage of Robert Garcia, but he also made some changes on a promotional level.

Of the three promoters Dulorme signed in 2010, DiBella Entertainment, Universal Promotions and Gary Shaw Productions, the last one will continue with the quoted boxer.

"I bought the parts of my contract that belonged to Lou DiBella and Javier Bustillo, but Gary Shaw stays in" Dulorme said, "I felt that lately those businesses were not going well, and I had to do something about it, but this is nothing personal against DiBella and Bustillo because they have been very important in my career and I learned a lot from them but still, this is just plain business".

Dulorme , graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Art Lyceum of Technology with specialization in Delineation in Autocad; he is studying all angles of his boxing career.

"In this business everything is possible. If it's convenient for me to stay with the part of my contract, that I will do, if a possibility of renegotiation with another promoter appears , I will consider it because this is a matter of situations, and to be able to take advantage of them when they show up" Dulorme said.

Dulorme is expected to return to the ring for the month of April.

Currently the Puerto Rican is ranked #3 WBA, #5 IBF, #7 WBC and #14 WBO at the junior welterweight division.

Marquez-Alvarado: Arum, Beltran Discussing For 5/17

By Miguel Rivera

Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum, and Zanfer Promotions President Fernando Beltran, are discussing the possibility of a fight between Juan Manuel Marquez (55-7-1, 40KOs) and Mike Alvarado, which is being targeted for May 17th at The Forum in Los Angeles, California. The co-feature would see a lightweight bout between Mikey Garcia and Yuriorkis Gamboa. Marquez lost a twelve round split decision to WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley in October, and then a week later Alvarado (34-2, 23KOs) was stopped by Ruslan Provodnikov.

"A few minutes ago I just spoke with Fernando Beltran [who handles Marquez]. Juan Manuel Marquez, maybe he will go against Mike Alvarado. And then the winner? Although not officially, [the winner] would face the winner of the rematch between Pacquiao and Bradley. This is what might happen here. We are thinking about [doing that fight] at the new Forum in Los Angeles," Arum stated to Carlos Narvaez

Froch - Groves 2 Agreement Reached Confirms I B F Prez

BoxingScene.com

By Terence Dooley

Carl Froch's rematch with George Groves will not go to purse bids. The IBF have confirmed to BoxingScene that both parties have reached a private agreement. The Super middleweight title fight should be announced on Sky's Ringside show on Thursday evening and is likely to take place in May.

"We have been informed by Carl Froch's people and George Groves's people that they have come to an agreement, so it will not go out to purse bids," said Daryl J. Peoples, the IBF's President, when speaking to BoxingScene over the phone.

"It is an excellent fight, great for the IBF and the U.K., and I understand that there's been quite a demand for it (the rematch) — they're two top-notch fighters. We haven't been notified of a venue just yet — they're trying to finalize those details — but I understand that the contracts will be with us soon."

Eddie Hearn of Matchroom confirmed that an extension to the deadline was agreed by the IBF and that a deal is being worked on, but he sounded a cautionary note. "We asked for an extension last Friday," said Hearn. "We sent an email saying we'd made progress and would get the contracts to them in due course, so it's still ongoing, but close. We have made significant progress, but they (the IBF) haven't got contract yet and until we send them it's not done.

"Without a question," he said when asked if it is a viable a stadium fight. "I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if I took this indoors because you never know what it could have done."

It ends the "Will they, won't they" soap opera saga that has dominated British boxing's headlines ever since referee Howard Foster stopped their first fight in the ninth-round in November. Many felt that the stoppage at Manchester's Phones 4U Arena was premature, despite the BBBoC backing Foster over his decision, and calls for a rematch have reverberated throughout the domestic scene over the past few months.

Groves has consistently maintained that his head was clear when Foster stepped in; he even went as far as lobbying the IBF for a rematch, citing the referee's decision. His wish was granted last month when the governing body upheld "Saint" George's complaint and ordered a return. A February 8th deadline was imposed, beyond this point it would have gone to purse bids, but the parties managed to work things out in time.

IBF purse bids rules meant that Groves could have been facing an 85-15% split in Froch's favour; Groves appealed against this decision but was unsuccessful; that split is now moot as a deal has been reached.

Groves has also attempted to have the result changed to a No Contest, he submitted his case to the BBBoC last week and it is being heard today. It means that, as things stand right now, Groves is still 19-1 (15) going into the return bout, but he will have learned a lot from the first fight. The 25-year-old is likely to give "The Cobra", 32-2 (23), another rough night.

Fighters fight scared all the time. Omar Narvaez is the perfect example when he fought Donaire.

Fighting cautious during a bout is one thing but just being scared of fighters to set up fights is silly and if u are that way u are in the wrong sport. Ive seen a fighter get hit during a fight and than fight cautious the rest of the fight but thats after taking a hard shot and changing strategy to not get hit again lol. but u shouldnt be all out afraid when u arent in the ring though lol. Got Em!!

Boxing Champion Vic Darchinyan tries his hand(s) in MMA

Professional Boxing champion Vic Darchinyan has decided to become next in a long line of guys making the switch over to Mixed Martial Arts. The dominant Armenian is a three-division world champion, having won eight titles in three different weight classes( IBF Flyweight,WBA, WBC & IBF Super Flyweight and a record of 4 IBO titles). Darchinyan is coming off of a loss to former champ Nonito Donaire and some feel this could be a very organic jump for the 38 year old. Darchinyan trains under the same famed coach as Ronda Rousey, Edmond Tarverdyan. The outspoken coach has already confirmed that Darchinyan has a bout lined up in Australia.

Froch forced to fight Groves, rematch set

Carl Froch and George Groves will meet in a rematch after agreeing terms this morning to meet on May 31, with Nottingham’s Froch once again defending his WBA and IBF world super-middleweight titles against the Londoner.
A host of Britain’s most iconic sporting stadiums are in the running to stage the contest, venues being considered, include Wembley, Twickenham, Old Trafford, the Emirates Stadium and Nottingham Forest’s City Ground.
They both lit up the Manchester Arena in November in there first clash, which was an epic battle and the fight of the year. Groves dropped Froch in the first round and outboxed the champion for most of the fight. The Cobra managed to battle through and stopped Groves in round nine. But the stoppage was controversial and the IBF ordered Froch to give Groves the rematch. After some stumbling blocks, the fight has finally been signed and one of the most eagerly anticipated matchups for 2014 will happen!
“I’m pleased to finally get my next fight confirmed,” Froch said.
“We had a number of options but ultimately I listened to the public and gave them what they wanted, I expect this to be one of the biggest fights the country has ever seen.
“It’s been a difficult period for me following the first fight. I’ve had to listen to his endless whining and appeals when ultimately the referee did him perhaps the biggest favour possible and saved him from a devastating knockout, whilst denying me the right if a clinical finish and a great comeback victory.
“I was poor in the first fight. I didn’t give him the respect as a fighter and lacked the drive that I had against Lucian Bute and Mikkel Kessler. Well now he has my attention but ultimately it’s not going to get any better for George from here. He threw the kitchen sink at me that night and I still found a way back in the fight to win. I love to fight and I can’t wait to get back in there and do a proper job in him.”
“I feel blessed that I am getting this fantastic opportunity to participate in what could be Britain’s biggest ever boxing match,” said Groves. “I am still shocked that Froch has agreed to take the fight. I respect him for his bravery.
“Now I am preparing to get in the greatest physical and mental shape possible to destroy Froch in what can only be a three-round fight. Britain will have its own Hagler-Hearns to talk about for years to come. I am counting down the days until I’m World Super Middleweight champion.”
“Quite simply, I believe this is the biggest fight in British boxing history,” said promoter Eddie Hearn.
“Taking away the controversy from their first encounter, it was one of the most epic and exhilarating fights I have ever witnessed and I’m delighted the public are going to get a chance to see it all again.”

Unconfirmed Reports say Manny Pacquiao signs two year extension worth 75 million dollars

By Kevin Davis

Just show him the Maaaannyyy!, Unconfirmed reports say that Manny Pacquiao has signed a two-year extension on his contract with Top Rank Promotions, and the deal is worth close to 75 million dollars. This should help him with his recent tax issues, if this deal is true. I tried to confirm this report, but due to what they call snakes in the grass, they don't want to disclose information on Pacquiao deal. In the past there have been tampering and unethical moves in trying to pursue the talents of the Philippine superstar fighter. We shall wait and see if this deal is true and if it is, will this help or hinder a possible Floyd Mayweather Jr. clash.

Team Golovkin wants no parts of Lara

Loeffer said this on his social media site: “GGG response to Lara: Are you Serious?”
“He [Lara] is not approved by HBO and never on our radar, he should be calling out Quillin, if he wins, he becomes interesting,” Loeffler said. “Lara fights on Showtime and had draws with Vanes and Molina, GGG vs Stevens=high ratings, who watches Lara? Lara fights on Showtime and is Jr Middle, why would he be on our radar? Lara should call out Floyd, same promoter same TV and he beats both Khan and Maidana, should be easy fight to make. Good fight between 2 solid guys. Yes, same promoter same TV and same weight, makes more sense for Lara to call out Floyd.”
Loeffler would be a lot more believable with what he’s saying if Golovkin were actually fighting interesting opponents with more cache than Lara, but he’s not. How can Loeffler say “who watches Lara,” when Golovkin is fighting lesser opponents like Osumanu Adama, Nobuhiro Ishida, Gregorz Proksa and Curtis Stevens? Lara would likely school all of those guys and make them look incredibly bad. If Golovkin was facing high quality opponents each time he fights, then you could understand Loeffer not having interest in a guy like Lara, but that’s not happening. Golovkin is facing a lot of guys that bring nothing to the table in terms of ratings and they have no chance of beating him. Ishida, Adama, Prokza and Stevens were all guys that were already beaten on paper the moment the fight contracts were signed with Golovkin. With Lara, you can’t say that because he would have a real chance of beating Golovkin.
I know Loeffer and trainer Abel Sanchez want Golovkin to be seen as a wrecking crew type of a fighter, but I’m noticing that he doesn’t take risky fights, and I’m starting to think he’s more hype than reality. They don’t want to move him up for a fight against Andre Ward, even though that fight would be huge. And now Lara is another one that they don’t want to match Golovkin with. I think there’s some fear there, and I guess I don’t blame them if they are afraid. The way that Golovkin was getting hit in his last fight against Adama, I could see Lara taking Golovkin to school and badly exposing him. If that happens, then Golovkin could forget all about getting the big money fights against Sergio Martinez, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, Miguel Cotto and Peter Quillin.

Lol why are people taking this serious? HBO does not work with Golden Boy, period. They turned down a far more lucrative fight in Stevensons vs Bernard Hopkins which would have done GREAT numbers.

Meanwhile Lara did call out Mayweather, a Showtime fighter and no one mentions that? That is actually a realistic fight. Instead the debate is Khan or Maidana (neither are worthy opponents ) and GGG vs Lara which cannot happen unless Lara leaves Golden Boy (which isn't possible since he's under contract ).

Further, this "writer" comes to the conclusion that Lara "schools Golovkin"? Based on what? He's a junior middleweight who beat Angulo but was dropped hard twice by him. Golovkin has real MW power and is a far better fighter than Angulo. I love Lara's chances against almost anyone at 154 but at 160 against real power not so much.

im speaking on his pro career, not a overrated amateur record. does GGG have a gold medal?

Look at the guys he beat in the World Champsionship in Thailand:

Defeated Matvey Korobov (Russia) PTS (19-10)
Defeated Andy Lee (Ireland) PTS (29-9)
Defeated Lucian Bute (Romania) KO-4
Defeated Yordanis Despaigne (Cuba) PTS (29-26)
Defeated Oleg Mashkin (Ukraine) RSCI-2

That's incredible.
