Pretty nice Puerto Rican card. I understand this is somewhat of a stay busy fight for Danny Garcia as well to build his fanbase in Puerto Rico. Check out the triple header:

Danny Garcia (27-0) vs Mauricio Herrera (20-3, he beat Ruslan on ESPN, Ji-Hoon Kim, lost to Karim Mayfield & Mike Alvarado).

Deontay Wilder (30-0, 30 KO's) vs Malik Scott (36-1)

Juan Manuel Lopez vs Daniel Ponce De Leon***

H B O Nearly Doubles Showtime In Jan 25 Ratings

By Jake Donovan

Showtime’s first entry of its 2014 boxing season also served as the first head-to-head clash with rival HBO, as both networks offered championship boxing on its airwaves. The end result was further proof that dueling broadcasts continue to do more harm than good for both networks.

The first conflict of 2014 fittingly came with siginficant shows offered by Top Rank (HBO) and Golden Boy Promotions (Showtime). HBO won the head-to-head battle by nearly a two-to-one margin, though neither network will be caught banging their proverbial chests over the latest numbers.

Following a monstrous year in 2013 that saw Showtime ratings rise by more than 60%, its January 25 doubleheader from Washington D.C. averaged just 390,000 viewers over the course of the evening.

The rating was nearly doubled by HBO’s own doubleheader from New York City, which delivered an average total audience of 777,000 viewers for its 2014 Boxing After Darkpremiere. The tally comes 11% below the series’ 2013 overall average.

Showtime’s offering saw Lamont Peterson score a decisive 12-round points win over Dierry Jean to extend a controversial title reign in the 140 lb. division. The win was Peterson’s first in nearly a year, having suffered a third round knockout at the hands of Lucas Matthysse last May. The bout took place at a catchweight of 141 lb., one pound above the super lightweight limit which allowed the D.C. native to extend his title reign even with the loss.

His bounce back performance versus Jean pulled in an average of 402,000 viewers, the lowest rated bout of either broadcast and actually performing far lower than its own supporting bout.

In the televised co-feature from D.C., Jermell Charlo moved one step closer to contention in the 154 lb. division with a wide points win over Gabriel Rosado, who is now winless in his last four bouts. Their bout averaged 472,000 viewers, with the 10-round bout beginning 45 minutes before HBO’s boxing telecast went live.

HBO saw the return of a favorite son as well as the introduction of a heavyweight on the rise in its twinbill. Unbeaten Mikey Garcia returned to New York one year and one week following his first title win, when he bested Orlando Salido to win the featherweight title.

His January 25 visit to the frigid city saw the 25-year old return as a defending 130 lb. titlist, scoring a wide 12-round points win over Juan Carlos Burgos atop a show that landed square in the middle of Super Bowl coverage in the New York/New Jersey area. The bout averaged 829,000 viewers on the night, peaking at 911,000 viewers, good for the best total of all four major televised bouts between the two shows.

The televised co-feature was by far the most impressive showing among either network, which means a rare treat from the heavyweight division. Bryant Jennings put behind a forgettable 2013 campaign which only saw one fight and win, and a lot of time on the sidelines while changing promoters. Returning to his 2012 form, the Philly native scoring a rousing 10 th round knockout of Artur Szpilka in a battle of unbeaten heavyweights.

The heavyweight bout averaged 811,000 viewers over the course of the 10-round affair, peaking at 907,000 viewers, nearly doubling Showtime’s main event.

All of the aforementioned is compiled from Nielsen Media Research .

Both networks go virtually dark for the month of February in terms of their major series. Showtime Championship Boxing isn’t set to return until March 15, with its schedule affected by the postponement of a planned February 15 rematch between featherweights Jhonny Gonzalez and Abner Mares. Their first fight last August saw Gonzalez score a shocking 1 stround knockout in one of the biggest upsets of 2013.

HBO’s World Championship Boxing series returns March 1, with a televised doubleheader live from San Antonio. Headlining the show is one of the network’s biggest draws, as Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. faces Bryan Vera in a rematch to their controversial bout last September. Chavez Jr.—who came in heavy enough to have to request a compromised weight limit—scored a widely disputed 10-round decision over Vera, in a fight that served as the second highest rated cable televised boxing event of the year.

In the televised co-feature, two-time Olympic Gold medalist Vasyl Lomachenko faces featherweight titlist Orlando Salido. A win would earn Lomachenko (1-0, 1KO) the distinction of claiming a major title in just his second pro fight, quicker than anyone else in boxing history.

The lone offerings from either network between now and then will come in second-tier series; Showtime has a ShoBox event planned for February 2, while HBO’s sister network HBO2 will pick up a same-day tape delay feed of the February 22 card in Macau, headlined by Miguel Vazquez in a lightweight title defense versus unbeaten mandatory challenger Denis Shafikov

Tim Bradley, Cameron Dunkin Discuss Parting Ways

by David P. Greisman & Rick Reeno

Welterweight titleholder Tim Bradley and boxing manager Cameron Dunkin are no longer working together, according to an interview Bradley did with Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated.

“Cameron is a great manager. I can't say anything bad about him,” Bradley told Mannix. “He cares for his fighters, for the amount of money they are making. Cameron has definitely helped my career in many ways. We did business. We did a lot of great business. The fact that I didn't re-sign is because Cameron didn't show interest in me after the Marquez fight. He showed no kind of interest. He didn't call. He didn't mention the contract was up, he didn't try to renegotiate.

“After the Marquez fight, I never heard from him. So I was like, I think I can do this [myself],” Bradley said. “I have a relationship with Top Rank, with Todd duBoef, with Bob Arum, with HBO. I asked my wife [Monica], ‘You think you can do this?’ She said, ‘Absolutely.’ I've been in the game almost 10 years now. I know enough. There is no better manager than me. I told Cameron what I want, and he got it for me. Now, I tell my wife what I want and she goes and gets it. She did very well for this fight. I felt it was a great move.”

Dunkin, speaking with BoxingScene.com, had a slightly different version of what happened in the weeks that followed Bradley's victory over Marquez. The veteran manager was unaware that Bradley was going in his own direction, until he was informed by Top Rank's President, Todd duBoef. Dunkin, who states that he still cares deeply for Bradley and his family, feels he could have secured better terms for Bradley's rematch with Pacquiao.

"I went through a bad health period at that time and he knows that. He knows I was very ill. It was very hard for me. But he's right, I didn't call him [after the Marquez fight]. I did call him once or twice [last year]. I called him, I think the day before the Rios fight and the day of the Rios fight [with Pacquiao]," Dunkin told BoxingScene.com.

"But I did contact Monica. 90% of all of my talks have been with Monica. I just wish he would have reached out to me and given me a chance to talk to him, because I did call him and I did leave a message with Monica and I did send an email to Monica. I never heard back from them."

"He never sent me anything [regarding his decision to part ways]. He told Todd to no longer negotiate with me on their behalf. I wish they would have let me negotiate on their behalf for this fight, because I think they left stuff on the table and I'm good friends with Todd, but I'm much better friends with my fighters. I love my fighters and I take care of them.

"I did a hell of a job for him and it hurts. I love the kid and I have no bad feelings about him at all. I made him a lot of money, he knows that. And he won the fights. He's a great fighter. He made me look really smart. I don't have anything bad to say [about him]. I just wish we would have talked, because I get the fights done for my guys, ill or not, and they make a lot of money....like Mikey [Garcia] the other night and Brandon Rios. My guys make a lot of money and they get well taken care of."
Bradley’s rematch with Manny Pacquiao is scheduled to air on pay-per-view on April 12 from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Bradley won the first bout, in June 2012, by a highly controversial split decision

Amir "King" Khan Ripped and Ready for Floyd Mayweather Clash

By Shawn Craddick

It's no surprise that Amir Khan is the likely candidate to face Floyd Mayweather Jr on May 3rd. So Amir Khan has been getting in tremendous shape for that fight. He is working with Tony Brady to get his strength and conditioning in tip top form. Khan has admitted that the coach has been kicking his butt in training, but he realizes that he is getting in Fighting Shape. The move up to 147lbs will be better for him too since he won't have to drain himself to make 140lbs anymore.

What are thoughts on the picture?

Adrien Broner Stripped of 135lb WBC Belt - Eyes Maidana Rematch

By Shawn Craddick

Adrien Broner was still the WBC 135lb belt holder when he went up two weight classes and defeated Paulie Malignaggi, but then lost a decision to Marcos Maidana. You only have a certain time frame to defend your belt. The organizations cannot wait forever on your decision also because there are other fighters wanting a title shot. So either you defend it or become stripped of it.

All that ended when Adrien Broner signed a rematch clause to fight Marcos Maidana at 147lbs again for the belt. Since this happened, this gave the WBC the right to strip Adrien Broner because his intentions is not to come back down to 135lbs and defend the belt. Adrien was not going to go back to 135lbs anyways. If anything he would make his new home at 140lbs. Daniel Estrada is the number one ranked and Nihito Arakawa is the number two ranked fighters at 135lbs. Estrada beat Arakawa already in a Technical Decision when a cut over Estrada's eye was caused by an accidental elbow and the fight was not allowed to continue. Estrada was up on the scorecards anyway.

Fuck no. who knows how mayweather will do in a mma ring. Dana white just has so much hate for Floyd(he must have lost a lot of money betting against him lol). dana white or the ufc don't got enough money to pay Money May if he ever stepped in the octagon anyway so why speak on it
If u look at the best mma fighters, they all mastered at least one martial art then went to mma. I think Floyd would do just fine in the mma. Plus, boxers are have way more stamina than mma fighters do

Ruslan to Marquez: You a scared little hoe! (OK not exactly but Mr. Nice guy came about as close as he ever will to insult ):

"Marquez now knows that Bradley is not fighting him until maybe the end of the year, and Marquez is not getting any younger, so I know that the only possible pay-per-view fight for Marquez that will draw is against me, and if he doesn't agree to the fight now I am sure he is just afraid of me," Provodnikov told BoxingScene.com.

I'd favor Provodnikov in a fight with Marquez if it were today.

And you fools are smoking rocks if you think Floyd would hold his own in MMA. The only thing an elite boxer could do to survive in the cage is master take down defense and pray that the fight never gets to the ground, which it inevitably would. They are 2 different sports. What Dana said was true. Any fool from MMA trying to beat a boxer in a ring would get murdered and vice versa.
