yes, yes he does. Golden Boy was supposed to be a great thing, an organization that truly represented the fighters interests, etc., almost like a union to a certain extent. But it has become no different then any other money hungry boxing promotion company. It sucks, the good news is Oscar will be retired as a fighter by 2009.

Hatton vs. Pacquiao is a Special Fight," Says Schaefer

By Mark Vester

Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, feels that a fight between Ricky Hatton and Manny Pacquiao would be one for the ages. During a recent interview with Ring Magazine, Pacquiao said that he was interested in fighting Hatton after the June 28 showdown with WBC lightweight champion David Diaz.

"After Diaz, I want to fight Ricky Hatton. That will be a good fight. I'm 150lbs right now. My sparring partners are always 140 to 150lbs. It's not a problem for me," Pacquiao said. "And I'm not getting any younger. So why not?"

The fight is probably not going to happen in 2008. Hatton is scheduled to face IBF junior welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi in the fall. Hatton turned down a potential fight with Oscar De La Hoya to move forward with Malignaggi.

Schaefer says a potential Hatton-Pacquiao clash would attract interest from all over the world.

"It would be a great fight, the styles of the two fighters could make it special. There would be interest around the world because both fighters have a huge following," Schaefer told The Telegraph

Junior Witter vs. Gianluca Branco is in The Works

According to various reports in the UK, former WBC junior welterweight champion Junior Witter (36-2, 21KOs) is possibly going to fight Gianluca Branco (41-2, 21KOs) in his next fight. Witter was recently named the mandatory challenger to Branco's European 140-pound title.

Witter is coming off his first loss in eight-years after losing a close decision last month to Timothy Bradley. Branco has been beaten by only two fighters, Arturo Gatti and Miguel Cotto. He's won five-bouts in a row since the loss to Cotto, including two by knockout. He picked up the EBU title last month with a close spilt-decision win over Colin Lynes in Italy

Kevin Kelley, Aaron Pryor Jr, Ricco Rodriguez Back on 7/8

Ricco Rodriguez of North Hollywood, Calif., who stopped Randy Couture for the UFC heavyweight championship, and unbeaten, 6-foot-9-inch, Las Vegas heavyweight Kaspars Kambala, who played basketball for UNLV, headlines the undercard.

“Boxing has been part of the history of the Las Vegas Hilton,” said Ken Ciancimino, executive vice president. “We’re delighted to be bringing it back and making it part of the mix of entertainment and special events here.”

This will be the first boxing card at the Las Vegas Hilton in six and one-half years, since February of 2002.

Pryor faces Arturo Ortega of Phoenix in a 10-round bout and Rodriguez meets Emile Whiterock of North Las Vegas in a four-round fight while Kambala takes on an opponent to be determined in another four-round contest.

Other bouts include super welterweight Lottery Smith of Denver against Mario Evangelista of Los Angeles in a four-round fight and a six-round fight between opponents to be determined.

Tickets for the card presented by Sterling Promotions of Las Vegas are priced at $25, $40, $60 and $75 and are on sale on-line at lvhilton.com, through Ticketmaster outlets and at the Las Vegas Hilton box office daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. (Pacific) or by calling 702-732-5755 or 800-222-5361 during those hours.

Doors to the Hilton Theater open at 5:30 p.m. with the first bout starting at 6:30.

Kelley, a southpaw who has a record of 59-8-2 with 39 knockouts and has won eight of his past 11 bouts, was scheduled to fight on the Shane Mosley-Zab Judah card May 31. However, when an injury to Judah caused the cancellation of that card, Kelley became available to fight at the Las Vegas Hilton July 8.

Kelley faces a stern test when he meets Jabir, who has a record of 11-6 with nine knockouts, but already has fought in nine 12-round title bouts. Jabir, who trains with ex-WBC featherweight and super featherweight champion Azumah Nelson, is the former African Boxing Union featherweight champ.

The 6-foot-4-inch Pryor Jr., son of former World Boxing Association super lightweight and International Boxing Federation junior welterweight champion Aaron Pryor, has a record of 10-0 with seven knockouts. Ortega has a mark of 12-7-3 with seven knockouts and twice last year fought Miguel Angel Espino, ranked No. 11 among middleweights by the WBC.

The Las Vegas Hilton has a long and storied history in boxing. The list of legends and luminaries who have competed at the Las Vegas Hilton starts with Muhammad Ali, who fought there in 1978.

Former heavyweight champion Larry Holmes also fought at the Las Vegas Hilton during the 1970s and 1980s.

The biggest attraction at the Las Vegas Hilton during the 1980s was Mike Tyson, who fought there six times and in 1986 won his first title to become at age 20 the youngest heavyweight champion ever.

Also fighting at the Las Vegas Hilton was Julio Cesar Chavez during the 1980s and 1990s and Thomas Hearns during the 1980s.

Rodriguez has a record of 1-0 with one knockout after leaving mixed martial arts for boxing. Whiterock has a record of 0-1.

Kambala has a record of 2-0-1 with one knockout.

Smith, who’s making his pro debut, is the second boxer on the card who has a former world champion for a father. He’s the son of Las Vegan Lonnie Smith, who was the WBC super lightweight champion. Evangelista has a record of 1-1 with one knockout.

In addition to Kelley in the 10-round Boxing Illustrated lightweight championship, Pryor and Ortega are in a Boxing Illustrated Showcase Cup bout. These Showcase Cup bouts are fights that spotlight boxers who well may be destined for world championship status later in their careers.

Boxing Illustrated, which resumes publication this year, was one of the two most influential boxing magazines for almost 40 years, from the late 1950s through the mid- 1990s, and was renowned for featuring the best boxing writers of the day.

Julio Cesar Gonazlez-Tavoris Cloud - Can Cloud Become The First Man To Stop Gonzalez?

11.06.08 - by James Slater: Unbeaten light-heavyweight puncher Tavoris Cloud takes the potentially toughest fight of his career this August. Taking on the teak-tough Mexican Julio Cesar Gonzalez on the 8th in Chicago in a fight that will be televised on ESPN, the 18-0(17) Cloud will be moving into the big time should he win..

With August's victor reportedly in line for a shot at IBF 175 pound champ Antonio Tarver, the stakes could not be higher. In the 31-year-old Gonzalez (Julio will have turned 32 come fight time), the 26-year-old Cloud will be facing a very tough man whose world class has been proven many times. A former WBO light-heavyweight champion, Gonzalez has wins over Dariusz Michalczewski, Glen Johnson, Julian Letterlough (in a wild affair where both men hit the mat more than once) and Montell Griffin to his name.

Gonzalez is quite long in the tooth now, however, and after having engaged in a number of very hard fights, the question is, is he ready to be taken by the big-punching Cloud? Now 41-5(25) the Mexican who lives in California has lost his last two fights, but will still easily be the best opponent the 26-year-old prospect from Florida will have faced. Gonzalez gives everyone a tough night's work, win or lose. But in his last but one fight, against Britain's Clinton Woods, the Mexican warrior looked more than a little worn at times. Could he be ready to be stopped for the first time in his career?

Cloud, though he will be stepping up in class considerably, has beaten some decent fighters already. Jose Luis Herrera, recent conqueror of "Awesome" Aaron Williams, was taken care of in August of last year (TKO 5) and before that Cloud stopped all but one of his fifteen opponents. The 26-year-old can bang, of that there is no doubt. However, one look at Cloud's resume lets you know he has yet to have a fight that could in any way be called a long affair. Still to go beyond the 5th round, there may be questions about the unbeaten puncher's stamina. Also, by the time he gets in there with Gonzalez, Cloud will have had only one fight in eight months. It is possible, then, that should Gonzalez take him into the late rounds Cloud could find himself experiencing something totally new to him - and he may not like it.

If anyone is capable of testing any young light-heavyweight, be that fighter a big puncher or not, it is the fearless Gonzalez. Cloud had better be prepared for a fight that could very easily become a gruelling encounter. Look for Gonzalez to keep his record of never having been stopped intact, while losing yet another points decision
