Holy shit the corrupt WBC suddenly is doing the RIGHT things.

WBC: Chavez Jr. Must Fight Sergio Martinez, No Interims, No Tuneups

By Rick Reeno

Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas - At their ongoing 49th annual convention, the World Boxing Council ordered their middleweight champion, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., to make an immediate defense against the Diamond champion, Sergio Martinez. The WBC will not allow Chavez to make any voluntary title defenses, against Marco Antonio Rubio or Miguel Cotto.

Martinez's promoter Lou DiBella was delighted with the WBC's ruling. Chavez is slated to return in February, while Martinez has an HBO date on March 17th.

"Chavez must fight Sergio next. No interim fights. He has to fight Sergio next or [Top Rank CEO] Bob Arum must work out a deal with me. He can't take the Feburary fight without being stripped or unless Top Rank and DiBella agree. Obviously I'll be having conversations with both HBO and Arum," DiBella told BoxingScene.com.

Hopkins Ordered By The WBC To Face Dawson Again

By Rick Reeno

Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas - At the WBC's 49th annual convention, the sanctioning body issued an order that requires light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins (52-5-2, 32KOs) to fight Chad Dawson (30-1, 17KOs) in a rematch.

The two boxers fought on October 15th at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. The fight came to an abrupt end in the second round, when Hopkins leaned over Dawson while charging in, and the challenger pushed him off. Hopkins fell to the mat and suffered a shoulder injury.

The injury prevented Hopkins from being able to continue, and the referee Pat Russell named Dawson as the winner by way of second round technical knockout. A few days later the WBC held a vote and their championship board disagreed with Russell's ruling. The title was returned to Hopkins.

On Tuesday, the California State Atheltic Commission granted an appeal filed by Golden Boy Promotions on behalf of Hopkins. The final outcome of his loss to Dawson was reversed and officially listed as a no-contest.

On Thursday morning, Dawson's promoter Gary Shaw, still steaming from Tuesday's ruling, made a sound case for an immediate rematch, which received approval from WBC president Jose Sulaiman and various board members who agreed with Shaw's position for the rematch.

well he HAS to fight Martinez next or he'll be stripped of his belts. RIP Chavez.

As for bernard hopkins, he has both the WBC belt AND The Ring Belt, the latter being much more important, so if HBO doesn't put up the money for the rematch, I can see a scenario where bhop drops his WBC belt but still is the real champ at LHW. I think he'll try to fight Bute, but if Bute turns it down he might not have any other choice than to fight Dawson again.

@2-0-Sixx...What are your thoughts on Lucian Bute? I like em, but he never leaves home and fights only decent or has been fighters...When is he going to step his game up and do you think he has a legitimate chance to beat top tier opponents?

Pascal-Sillakh Eliminator, DeMarco-Linares II, More Hits

By Rick Reeno

Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas - A few more news and pieces coming out of the WBC's 49th annual convention. A final light heavyweight eliminator was ordered between light heavyweights Jean Pascal (26-2-1, 16KOs) and Ismayl Sillakh (17-0, 14KOs). The winner of Pascal-Sillakh becomes the mandatory challenger to the winner of the ordered rematch between champion Bernard Hopkins and top contender Chad Dawson. As BoxingScene reported earlier, the WBC ordered a Hopkins-Dawson rematch.

The situation at 168 stays the same. The winner of Saturday's unification between Carl Froch [WBC] and Andre Ward [WBA] will have to face Anthony Dirrell.

At lightweight, Antonio DeMarco (26-2-1, 19KOs) was given permission to make an option defense before facing Jorge Linares (31-2, 20KOs) in a rematch. DeMarco captured the vacant title when he came from behind to stop Linares in eleven rounds on October 15th.

At featherweight, a financial issue got settled between champion Jhonny Gonzalez and Elio Rojas, the WBC's champion in recess. When the fight goes to a purse bid, the split will be 60-40 in favor of Gonzalez.

At bantamweight, Abner Mares will have to vacate his IBF super bantamweight title in order to maintain his grasp of the WBC's silver [interim] belt.

At flyweight, Pongsaklek Wonjongkam has until March to defend his belt against mandatory challenger Toshiyuki Igarashi.

he's a very solid fighter but like you said he's never really fought a really good fighter yet, although he offered fights to both Kessler and Kelly Pavlik and both those guys turned him down so it's not entirely his fault. He makes good money in Canada so I don't really blame him for not leaving either (yet).

I think he's waiting for the Super Six winner. IMO, Ward will beat him and Froch would fight him very tough. His chin is still a bit suspect in my book (should have been KO'd by Andrade in their first fight but was saved by ref/bell in the final round).

shit, if they put The Black Russian vs Pascal as the undercard fight to Hopkins-Dawson II that would be a fantastic card.

Honestly I don't think anyone in the division can fuck with Sillakh, I think he's the future of the light heavyweight division.

Sucks how Tavoris Cloud is the odd man out though, would love to see him get up in the mix.

Floyd Mayweather Disses Oscar De La Hoya & Victor Ortiz in New Video Posting

By Johnny Benz, Doghouse Boxing - In a new video uploaded and posted today by Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr., which features himself, rapper 50 Cent and another rapper, "Machine Gun Kelly, the boxer and his Money team are having a blast.

During the newly posted video (which is provided on this page below for your viewing), "Money" has plenty to say on an assortment of topics. However, when he mentions Victor Ortiz and Oscar De La Hoya... that's when the classic dissing that "Money" is famous for, comes out. Let me tell you, when it came to talking Oscar De La Hoya... "Money" Mayweather was anything but easy on him.

Here are some excerpts from the video (Please note, the video has a lot of swearing and is not ideal for work or children).

On Victor Ortiz: "You know I had nothing against Victorio Ortiz, but I am saying kids, 'You're playing with the boss', "They say what level this is?'... I say this isn't level 10, this isn't level 100... it's level Pluto."

On Oscar De La Hoya: "De La Hoya wanted it, I kicked De La Hoya's ass, you know what I am saying?! He on crack, he dressing in drag. But you know me, no tattoos, no pierced ears, but I kick ass though."

Press play on the video and hear and see it all.

Freddie Roach sends Floyd Mayweather a direct message & Blasts Roger & Floyd Sr

By Johnny Benz, Doghouse Boxing - A verbal war between what Freddie Roach thought was himself and Roger Mayweather and Floyd Mayweather Sr., made for some great verbal sparring and entertainment. Let me explain. Late yesterday a battle ensued between Roach and twitter imposter(s) posing as Roger and Floyd Mayweather Sr. When the dust settled and Roach found out that the accounts were fakes (and since suspended by Twitter for being fakes), he did not recant on anything he said. In fact Roach re-tweeted his message to Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr's official twitter account asking "Money" Mayweather Jr. to let his uncle (and trainer) Roger, and his father Floyd Sr. that he meant every word regardless.

If you look at the top screen grab on this page, it was Dan Rafael (Boxing scribe for ESPN) that let Roach know he was dealing with imposters. Roach tweets back to Floyd "Money" Mayweather's verfied account: "@floydmayweather pls tell roger and floydsr i meant every word."

LOL, is what it was. But here is the low down on the twitter showdown (So you can be included in the fun)...

Freddie Roach tweets Oscar De La Hoya vs Floyd Mayweather
@R_Mayweather, a fake account that has since been suspended, tweeted to Roach: "Cockroack know his ass gets knocked in the dirt if he say shit".

Roach, not taking any sh!t, re-tweeted with: "bring it u never did have too good a chin RT"

Oh man, it was brilliant. Roach is hilarious! Also keep in mind, Roach believed it was the real Roger tweeting him the message when he blasted back his reply.

Freddie Roach tweets Oscar De La Hoya vs Floyd Mayweather
@R_Mayweather then tweeted the question to Roach: "Many belts you win muthafucka?"

Roach then fired back: "none but how many have u sold?" .

Schaefer Shreds Arum, Bradley, More

Promoter Bob Arum said as recently as late last month that, things were in motion regarding the possible Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Manny Pacquiao fight.

Richard Schaefer is CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, which has promoted Mayweather's past few fights. At one point Arum suggested that Schaefer was being left out of any Mayweather-Pacquiao talks, which angered Golden Boy in general. Schaefer assured BoxingScene.com that there is not one bit of negotiating currently taking place for this fight, in spite of Arum having said there are several companies that have come forward offering to finance what would be the biggest money-making fight in history.

"Bob Arum. Who the hell gives a s**t about Bob Arum?" Schaefer said. "He can say whatever he wants. I'm astonished that some media members still give credibility to what comes out of his mouth. What Arum is saying, it's pretty sad. He's such a liar.

"He is making up all these stories. He is fooling some of these media members over and over again. I couldn't care less what he says. He's lying and that's all I have to say about it. There are no negotiations; they don't want to do it. He is probably doing it to fool Pacquiao, to make him think there is something going on. There is nothing going on."

The Mayweather camp said it has reserved a May 5 date for Mayweather's next fight, and indicated it wanted Pacquiao to be the opponent. But it takes two to tango.

Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather's adviser, did not return a call seeking comment. Arum is on holiday vacation, according to Top Rank Inc. spokesman Lee Samuels.

Schaefer Also Blasts Bradley

Junior welterweight champion Timothy Bradley told BoxingScene.com this week that Amir Khan ran around like "a chicken s**t" in his 12-round split-decision loss to Lamont Peterson this past Saturday in a junior welterweight title fight in Washington D.C. This really infuriated Schaefer, especially since Bradley turned down an offer to fight Khan.

"Who gives a f**k?" said Schaefer, when asked about Bradley's comment. "This guy, really, he has a very pleasing smile, but it's one of those situations where, 'Don't let the smile fool you,' because he is the one who turned Amir Khan down.

"It wasn't his manager, it wasn't his promoter. He turned it down. So who is he to call another fighter chicken s**t? I think he should look in the mirror."

Steve Smoger to ref Froch-Ward fight this Saturday

Photo: Casino/SHOWTIME – By Scott Gilfoid: Referee Steve Smoger will be working this Saturday’s fight between Andre Ward and Carl Froch at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Smoger is known for his hands off approach to working fights and rarely does he step in to penalize or halt fights until it’s clear that a fighter is in need of protection. I don’t know that this is necessarily a good thing for Ward.

I like the idea of Smoger being someone that will stay out of the way of action, because the last thing we need is a referee that overly involves himself and breaks up the fight action every time one fighter attempts to work on the inside. However, Smoger also tends to penalize very seldom unless it’s soothing really obvious.

This is bad news for Ward because Froch fought an incredibly dirty fight two years ago in his controversial 12 round decision over Andre Dirrell. Froch fouled early and often and arguably he should have been disqualified for fouling by the 8th round. Froch didn’t start fouling until it was abundantly clear that he was overmatched against Dirrell and was getting humiliated by the talented American. That’s when Froch started throwing Dirrell around and blasting him with rabbit shots.

If Froch does this kind of thing in response to Ward dominating him this Saturday, the only person that can stop Froch from doing all of this is referee Smoger. He’s got to take points away from Froch to snap him out of his zone or else we could see this fight break into a fouling brawl. Ward isn’t just going to stand there and take it if Froch goes wild on him. He’s going to play eye for an eye by fouling Froch back. I just don’t want Ward’s dominating performance to be tarnished by Froch and a referee that lets from get away with fouling.

Robert Guerrero talks Mayweather Jr

Shaposhnikov: Without dismissing Robert Guererro’s ability in the boxing ring, because I do believe that he is as tremendous fighter, his claim that he would prove to be a real challenge to Floyd Mayweather Jr. simply won’t do.

In a recent interview with RingTV.com (http://ringtv.craveonline.com/blog/170717-qaa-guerrero-wants-mayweather), Guerrero discussed his proposed fight with Floyd, and tried to explain why he would be more effective in the ring than some others who have also tried but fell short.

“Me and Floyd Mayweather make sense. I've been studying him and breaking him down. I've got the keys to beating him. I've got him figured out. I know Floyd like the back of my hand,” said Guerrero in his recent interview. This is a very redundant sentence, and strikingly similar words have been pronounced by virtually every single fighter that ash crossed the ropes to face Mayweather Jr. Word have been shown ineffective when trying to blueprint Floyd.

Of course as many others, Robert mentioned Mayweather’s age, trying to claim that his skills are now diminishing at a very fast rate: “Floyd's going to be 35 years old on Feb. 24. His skills are starting to diminish. I'm 28 years old and a southpaw and I bring a lot to the table. Psychologically too. Being intelligent, I've been doing countless hours of studying Floyd Mayweather, and, you know, honestly, from a psychological standpoint, he's insecure. He's more insecure than a lot of people think that he is."

Is Mayweather Jr. insecure? Well, perhaps he is, but it also depends who you ask. If you ask a Manny Pacquiao fan, than yes, they will agree with Robert’s assumption. Personally, Mayweather Jr. doesn’t strike me as an insecure individual. He has fought and beat many great names. Sure he is holding on dearly to his zero loss record, but he is aware his own abilities and what he is capable of in the ring.

I hope Guerrero doesn’t get that fight, as much as I hope that Mayweather Jr. doesn’t accept it. If comes to fruition, this would be yet another fight where Mayweather’s opponent is meant to lose, and precious time would be wasted.

Devon Alexander Eyes Ortiz vs Berto Winner After Maidana

http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&opt=printable&id=47358#ixzz1gfAKA1ZW

Former junior welterweight champion Devon Alexander "The Great" appeared on a recent episode of The Boxing Lab, BoxingScene.com's official audio show. Alexander will face Marcos Maidana on February 25th in the main event of an HBO doubleheader. WBO super featherweight champion Adrien Broner will defend his title versus Eloy Perez in the televised opener.

Alexander has received criticism for what some perceive to be hometown cooking in his points victories over Andriy Kotelnyk and Lucas Matthysse. Both of those fights took place in Alexander's hometown of St. Louis, MO as does the upcoming fight against Maidana. Alexander said that at first he wanted to fight away from home to prove the critics wrong but he also understands the business aspect of the sport. Alexander is a big ticket seller in his hometown while Maidana doesn't have a big fan base in the United States.

"I originally wanted to go away to fight but I am a big draw in St. Louis and Maidana isn't a big draw in the States. I don't care where it (the fight is at) is at. I am happy that my hometown fans will be able to go to the fight," Alexander explained.

Alexander, who will be making his welterweight debut, is motivated for the challenge that Maidan abrings. He also said that he would like a shot at the winner of the rematch between Victor Ortiz and Andre Berto. The fight takes place on February 11th in Las Vegas, NV.

"We heard Maidana was moving up to 147 so we wanted to fight him. Berto and Ortiz are fighting. I would love to fight the winner of that fight as well," said Alexander.
