holy shit hbo lost money on that shit! how much did the live gate bring in 10k? lmao
lol it was bad. They had all east coast fighters, from the main event down to the undercard, fight in L.A. It was just retarded all around with on top of that making it a PPV when everyone knew it wasn't going to be a fan friendly fight based on styles.

Now if they would have had it in say, Atlantic City, they probably would have got some decent ticket sales, but even then there wasn't a huge interest in the fight. Putting it on regular HBO would have got decent ratings, but they supposedly couldn't afford it otherwise.

I don't care what channel picks it up. Dawson vs B-Hop has to happen just to close the chapter on that fight. If Dawson fights Pascal and B-Hop fights Cloud the winners should fight eachother that would be a easy fix. 1.5 rounds of fighting is not good enough reason for B-Hop to duck fighting Dawson again.

Cloud would do worse numbers than a Dawson rematch.
The difference though is HBO could afford it. They would pay Hopkins $1.1-$1.5 million and Cloud would get $500k or so.

If Hopkins & Dawson rematch they are both going to demand well over $1 million+ dollar paydays, likely $3 million or more total that HBO is going to have to dish out just for the purse (not including the site fees, advertising, etc) for a regular HBO event (not PPV).

I'm pretty sure HBO has already said they aren't interested in picking up a rematch. I guess you could see what Showtime could offer, but with the smaller budget they have I doubt they could put up $3 million for it either. ::edit::: actually scratch the Showtime option as Hopkins is under contract with HBO. HBO is his only option.

Very true.
Hopefully they make the offer though. I know Hopkins wouldn't budge but Dawson may be willing to take a cut to get have a chance at the belt. It has marketing potential as well. No one knows Cloud. Even if he beat Zolt Erdei, people still wouldn't know him.

As long as hopkins gets his $1 million + dollar payday I'm sure he's fine. Cloud at least has a belt so it would be a unification bout and HBO could sell it by using the angle of Hopkins is going for history of being the oldest man to defend his title in the history of the sport, stuff like that, against a mean killer in Cloud. I think HBO ratings would be pretty solid, as his last fight on regular HBO against Pascal was the highest rating HBO boxing in the past 3-4 years.

Ha, I guess I'm one of the few who really wants to see it. It's not even a rematch. They barely fought in the first place.
I like both of their styles. I still think its a great fight. Just wish it had a bigger fan draw.

We'll see what happens...

Greatest boxing Ref in boxing Steve Smoger talks Peterson-Khan

Your thoughts on the Khan-Peterson fight and the sentiment surrounding the penalties assessed against Khan by the referee?

Steve Smoger: Well I can't comment on a fellow brother referee, but I will tell you that in my career, I have never seen such an accentuation on the "foul of pushing."

In my view, a fighter who is endeavoring to evade a clinch or move out can sometimes try to execute what may appear to be a push, but he's seeking an advantage in order that he get his inside combinations off.

If one fighter is endeavoring to clinch, and another fighter -- I always maintain that if a fighter does not want to be held, then he can work his way out.

Sometimes that entails breaking away from the other fighter, which could be conceived as "pushing." In my career, I have never -- N-E-V-E-R-- taken a point for pushing.

So I want to comment not on Joe Cooper. He's a friend of mine. He saw fit to implement it in that regard, but you could say that I would not have done it. I would not have taken points in that situation there.

I have worked Amir Khan's fights. I had him with Paulie Malignaggi. He was respectful, and he was clean and I had no problems with him. I accept his explanation that he was weary of Lamont Peterson's head.

Overall, in your estimation, was Khan-Peterson a clean, action-packed fight?

SS: I would have in essence, I may have issued a warning when there was an elbow involved. And there was an elbow involved on one of Khan's pushes. Then, I would have given a warning.

Because that could have been considered illegal use of an elbow. But I would not have taken points. Clearly I would not have taken points. Whatever he did that night did not rise to that level. Point deductions are very, very severe.

And if you want a textbook case on why you have to be very, very careful in taking points, you just saw a referee inject himself to the degree that his decision-making changed two world titles on one night.

You understand what I'm saying? Without those two points, Khan would have won on either a majority decision or unanimous decision. So if ever there was a textbook case of being very, very careful with point deduction, that's it.

This is the one that will be debated at seminars, because a title changed hands not only on the fighters' skill and will, but the onus on the decision-making was in the hands of the referee. And I don't feel that was warranted.

Without the 2 points the fight is a draw anyway. Big deal Khan lost and he ran from Peterson most of the fight. Back to the gym Khan to work on inside fighting, and defense. Peterson make your money while you have the belts. Make sure your next fight is a big money fight. Peterson can rematch Bradley or Khan, he's in the drivers seat now.

Omar Chavez Expects a Very Tough Fight With Paez Jr.

http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&opt=printable&id=47311#ixzz1gZVMpfNc

By Ernesto Castellanos, notifight.com

Welterweight Omar Chávez, son of the legendary Julio Cesar Chavez, is already located in Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chiapas, where on Saturday night he collides with Jorge "Maromerito" Paez Jr., the son of another legend of boxing at welterweight.

The first thing Omar said, was that he is convinced that this will be the toughest fight of his career because he never had to face a fighter with the experience and the skills of Paez, who embraced the sport of professional boxing long before him and had a long and brilliant career in amateur boxing, and even belonged to Mexico's National Team.

"I am aware that I will be facing a fighter who is way ahead of me with regards to experience. As an amateur, Paez fought the best in the world, and he displayed a lot of quality as a professional," Chavez said.

Omar is the favorite to win this contest, but refuses to make a prediction and expects a very tough fight. Chavez comes to this fight with a 27-0 record, one draw and 20 wins by knockout, while Paez Jr. has a record of 29-4, with one draw and 18 wins by knockout.

Team Canelo: We Would Go Directly To Mayweather Jr.

http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&opt=printable&id=47305#ixzz1gZXMBYDF

By Rick Reeno

Jose "Chepo" Reynoso, manager and trainer of WBC junior middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, advised BoxingScene.com that his boxer is 100% ready for the biggest names in boxing - Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao.

Alvarez (39-0-1, 29KOs) is willing to come down to 150-pounds for a fight with Mayweather (43-0, 26KOs), who is scheduled to return on May 5th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Reynoso told BoxingScene that Canelo doesn't need an interim-fight, he is ready to go directly into a Mayweather fight.

If Mayweather is unable to secure Manny Pacquiao, a fight with Canelo on "Cinco De Mayo' weekend is the biggest secondary option from a financial point of view.

"We believe that every title fight is a big fight. But if you're asking about the biggest names [Mayweather and Pacquiao], we believe that we're ready for those fights. We don't need to have any interim fights. We're ready to go directly into those matches," Reynoso told BoxingScene.com.
