Broner is good, still young...he was getting touched up by that scrub on Saturday, so at this point in his career I think Bam Bam would tear him a new asshole.
Did I miss something watching the fight was Broner ever hurt in the fight?? Getting hit is a part of boxing you know. Gamboa and Rios has no defense and get hit clean in everyone of their fights, but you want to bring Broner getting hit in fight that ended in a 3rd round KO. Broner has real life boxing skills and you will be a fool to think these guys Rios or Gamboa will walk thru him with no problem. Boxing skills, handspeed, and punching power will give and fighter problems and Broner has all the listed skills. Keep believing that Rios will tear him a know asshole. No defense all offense fighters always get exposed in the end my friend that's law of boxing.

Schaefer: Marcos Maidana and Devon Alexander have agreed to fight in Jan or Feb

By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer is saying that slugger Marcos Maidana (31-2, 28 KO’s) and former IBF/WBC light welterweight champion Devon Alexander (22-1, 13 KO’s) have agreed to fight in a bout that will take place at welterweight instead of light welterweight.

The fight obviously won’t have Maidana’s World Boxing Association (WBA) light welterweight title on the line. According to RingTV, Schaefer says the fight will take place in either January or February 2012. No venue has been decided as of yet, but Maidana would do wise to make sure the fight doesn’t take place in the 24-year-old Alexander’s home city of Saint Louis, Missouri, where Alexander has won two controversial decisions in the past year against Andriy Kotelnik and Lucas Matthyse.

A lot of boxing fans, this writer included, saw Alexander losing both of those fights, yet he was given the decisions at home. If Alexander had lost those fights, he’d be coming into the Maidana fight having lost his lost his last three fights. After his last controversial decision over Matthyse last June, Alexander said he was moving up to the welterweight division because it’s draining him trying to make the 140 pound weight limit for the division.

That sounds good, but we’ll have to see if Alexander is any different at welterweight. My guess is he’ll be the same fighter. Alexander really hasn’t beaten anyone other than an old Junior Witter, Juan Urango, DeMarcus Corley, Kotelnik and Matthysse. And as I said, the wins over Matthysse and Kotelnik were controversial.

Schaefer said to ringtv “I am currently working on the date and the network to get that done. It’s another toe-to-toe battle, so it’s the kind of fight that we want to do. We just want to do great fights.”

Maidana has been involved with pretty much nothing but great fights. In the past year, Maidana has beaten Victor Cayo, Erik Morales, DeMarcus Corley and Petr Petrov. Last December, Maidana lost a 12 round decision against Amir Khan in a fight where Maidana seemed to be battling both Khan and referee Joe Cortez after Maidana had hurt Khan. It was a very strange fight once Maidana has Khan hurt.

If the fight doesn’t take place in St Louis, Maidana should win this fight without too many problems. Alexander isn’t a very good inside fighter and Maidana really excels in close. He’ll wear Alexander out and as long as he stays close to him, Maidana should do more than enough to get the decision. But he’s got to make sure he picks a neutral venue. He doesn’t want to do what Matthysse did and risk going to Alexander’s home city and put himself in the position where he may need a knockout to win.

Bob Arum confirms Mayweather Jr. talks

Shaposhnikov: I am safely assuming that most of you if not all, have read about, or have seen and heard the video in which Floyd Mayweather Jr. directly calls out Manny Pacquiao to fight him on May 5, 2011.

This, in my opinion, is not just another scenario where empty words are thrown around just to make a little stir for the media; just the opposite, this is something that will definitely require a response from team Pacquiao, specifically Bob Arum.

When Floyd makes an appearance on video, most of the time it’s very arousing for the boxing world. In this video by FightHype (http://www.fighthype.com/pages/content11263.html?PHPSESSID=45e87fbd9fcbeb2f7946228d1fbb91ad), he does something different. In his statement, his avoids too many weasler words such as ‘maybe’ and ‘if”.

And just as most hoped, Bob Arum did indeed respond, and has confirmed that the fight is being seriously considered and worked on. According to Manila Standard (http://philboxing.com/news/story-63475.html), Arum had the following to say: ““There are a couple of investors who want to put up a lot of money to do the fight. So we are exploring how real it is. The investors know Mayweather. They met with us at my house and they told Michael that they were going to see Mayweather and that Roger Mayweather would meet Michael outside the gym and take him in to meet with Mayweather.”

“If I explore the deal and Floyd likes the deal, hopefully he’ll accept it and if he doesn’t like the deal and then he says we have to do a regular ordinary deal so we run it ourselves, I’ll sit down with whomever he says. But right now it makes no sense to sit down with anybody else,” proceeded Arum.

Michael Koncz meeting and talking things out with Mayweather Jr. personally, to me, is a big deal, and could be the beginning of something very promising.

Devon Alexander is always fighting the tuff guys but yet he don't get props for doing it.
Devon Alexander is a true warrior and he don't duck fighters. Great match-up Golden Boy Maidana vs Alexander is good boxing.

he has, the reason he isn't getting props is he's got two obvious home town decisions on his record - Matthysse & Kotelnyk. So realistically he's lost three in a row including Bradley.

Also, he was forced by HBO to fight Matthysse, because part of the Bradley deal was that he would make a min of $1.3 million in his next fight. HBO did not approve a number of guys team Alexander wanted to fight, hence the tough fight with Matthysse, so it's not like Devon sought out to fight him or anything like that. If he wanted to get paid that big money, he had to take on a tough opponent, which he did and as we know, probably should have lost.

Regardless, my personal opinion is that he seems to have regressed as a fighter, which is a shame because he looked so promising against Urango & Witter. He's still young so he has time to turn things around but if he fights the way he has the last few fights, I don't like his future very much. But he can definitely turn that around with a good performance against Maidana, who is a lot like Matthysse but probably less technically and more sloppy.

^^Whatever the case maybe he only has 1 loss on his record to Bradley, and he's fighting all the tuff fight. He didn't have to fight Matthysse, he could've bitched up with a fake injury and backed out the fight. No Devon Alexander manned up and WIN a close fight against Matthysse. Devon wins two close fights and it's a gift, but your God wins a close fight and it's not a gift?? The double standards make me laugh.

Cotto to receive $5 million, Margarito $2.5 million, plus upside on PPV profits for S

By Dan Ambrose: WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (36-2, 29 KO’s) and Antonio Margarito (38-7, 27 KO’s) are going to be really well paid for this pay per view bout on HBO this Saturday night. According to news from Dan Rafael of ESPN, the 31-year-old Cotto will get $5 million for Saturday’s rematch, while challenger Margarito will haul in $2.5 million, plus both fighters get an upside on the PPV profits. This isn’t bad for Margarito, who hasn’t exactly winning as of late.

The fight sells for $54.95 on HBO PPV, and that might be a little out of reach for some boxing fans who are short on cash. It’ll be interesting to see what the final PPV totals are. Margarito will bring in a lot of Mexican fans and he could help bring in a lot of fans but I’m not seeing this as a PPV card that brings in huge totals such as 1 million buys. I think it will do alright but it won’t be the equivalent of the typical Manny Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather Jr. PPV card. Still, the guarantee of $5 million for Cotto and $2.5 million for Margarito is good money for both of these fighters. It’s hard to say how either of them would do against the other top light middleweights in the division at their age. There are some guys in the division that would really give both of them a lot of problems if Bob Arum, their promoter, would match them up.

Cotto has a got a real problem on his hands for this fight. He’s got stamina issues and he’s a sucker for uppercut due to his lack of height and habit of crouching when he fights. Steward did little to break Cotto of the habit of crouching, but he did teach to move more before Cotto let Steward go recently. However, Cotto using movement is nothing really new, because he ran like crazy last time he fought Margarito and so it’s not like Margarito will be seeing anything different from Cotto in this fight. Cotto will run just like last time, and will gas out in the 2nd half of the fight just like last time. The only real question is whether Margarito’s right eye holds up. If it does, he’s going to break Cotto down and give him a beating that will leave Cotto on the canvas at some point in the second half of the fight.

Getting hit by a guy who doesn't even belong in the same ring with you is different. Doesn't matter if he was hurt or not, it was a mismatched opponent from the beginning. He was SUPPOSED to blow Rodriguez out of the water.

Broner won impressively, but what I'm saying is that if a guy who is probably 5 notches below you talent/skill wise can touch you like that, just imagine what someone who is more evenly matched is going to do.

Rodriguez is a bum.

Dirrell vs. Cunningham, Taylor vs. Nicklow on 12/30 in California

By Scott Gilfoid: On December 30th, boxing fans will be getting a really good treat in the form of the Showtime fight between Andre Dirrell (19-1, 13 KO’s) vs. Darryl Cunningham (24-1, 10 KO’s) and Jermain Taylor (28-4-1, 17 KO’s) vs. Jessie Nicklow (22-2-3, 8 KO’s) at the Morongo Casino Resort & Spa in Cabazon, California.

This is a comeback fight for both Dirrell and Taylor, who have been out of action due to head injuries sustained in the Super Six tournament. Dirrell still has a lot of life in him and can accomplish big things in 2012 if he can regain the form he had before he was injured in his last fight against Arthur Abraham after slipping on the canvas.

Taylor was also injured by Abraham in bad knockout loss to him in October 2009 when Taylor was knocked out in the 12th round. Taylor has now been out of action for two years, and his injuries should be healed up by now for him to continue his career. Taylor has lost four out of his last five fights.

However, he attributes the losses to his struggling to make weight at 160. Taylor was gaining too much weight in between fights and was forced to use his training camps as fat farms to melt off weight rather than using the training camp to work on improving his fighting form.

He’s vowed to keep in shape in between fights so that he doesn’t have to use training camps to take-off weight any longer. Taylor is also moving back down to 160 after failing in his experiment at 168. Taylor didn’t have same kind of pop in his punches at this weight compared to at 160. It’s a smart move for him to get back down to where he previously held the WBC and WBO middleweight titles.

Dirrell should easily beat Cunningham without too many problems. Dirrell has dazzling skills and he’ll make it look easy. The same goes for Taylor against Nicklow. These are mismatches for both fighters.

Nothing personal at all just pointing out clear double standards, it's not like I'm lying.
how is it a double standard? Pacquiao had a tough fight with Marquez, a pound 4 pound fighter who he already had two tough fights against. I knew it was going to be tough. Besides it gets annoying when ever damn conversation you have goes back to pacquiao or floyd.

You asked why devon isn't getting props and I'm telling you it's cause he basically lost three in a row (in a lot of peoples eyes) against guys who on paper he should have beat (besides bradley).

My point was not to discredit him but to say he looks like he's regressed as a fighter. He hasn't seemed to have learned from the Kotelnyk fight at all.

I like Alexander, he's a good guy and so is his trainer. I used to have him in my sig for quite some time. His KO of Urango was dope as fuck. But unfortunately he hasn't looked good in his last three fights, despite how anyone scored those fights (a win is a win I agree but he didn't look good).

Maidana is another good test, he gets props from me for taking it (especially considering it looked like he was going to fight Paulie Malignaggi). This fight will tell me if Devon is learning or not because Maidana has a similar style to Matthysse. I'm rooting for Alexander and I've never really been a fan of Maidana.

People are going to upset when Alexander wins by KO. Maidana all offense and no defense will help Devon pick him apart.
Lol, Alexander makes all them noises when he punches and his punches have no effect.

Maidana is going to knock Alexander out, and yes I'm a fan of Maidana's, I like his style.

Saul Alvarez willing to drop down to 150 to fight Mayweather

By Allen Fox: WBC junior middleweight champion Saul Alvarez (39-0-1, 29 KO’s) is dead serious about wanting a fight against WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 5th next year. Alvarez, 21, wants the fight so badly that he’s willing to drop down to 150 to fight Mayweather. That’s only four measly pounds for the hulking Alvarez, that’s a lot of weight.

Alvarez told the Record.com.mx “I’m willing to do down to 150 pounds. [Oscar] De La Hoya said he was going to try to make the Mayweather fight. We’re ready for it.”

First of all, Alvarez isn’t ready for the Mayweather fight, not even close. Alvarez has been spoon fed older and smaller fighters since he captured the vacant World Boxing Council title earlier this year in March against fringe welterweight contender Matthew Hatton. Alvarez hasn’t proven that he can beat the best junior middleweights and here he is calling out Mayweather Jr. It’s too soon for Alvarez and too soon for the fight to be a mega one. Alvarez is just starting to get known by boxing fans in the U.S and none of his fights have been interesting to watch due to his mediocre opposition he’s being fed. Alvarez needs to fight the top names in the division such as Antonio Margarito, Miguel Cotto, Paul Williams, Cornelius Bundrage, Alfredo Angulo, Vanes Martirosyan, James Kirkland, Carlos Molina, Austin Trout, Sergiy Dzinziruk, Erislandy lara, Anthony Mundine and Pawel Wolak before talking about a fight against Mayweather. I’d be willing to bet that some of those fighters would beat Alvarez if Golden Boy was willing to risk putting Alvarez in with someone that could actually still fight.

Alvarez’s fans say he’s only 21 and shouldn’t be rushed, but he’s holding the WBC title, isn’t he? If he’s not to be rushed then he needs to drop the title and get in the slow lane and let the big boys fight. Alvarez can cruise around with his training wheels on until Golden Boy is willing to take them off and put in with the top fighters. But for Alvarez to be calling out Mayweather fight now is more than a joke. It reeks of someone out just to get a payday. We’ve got enough of those types of fighters bring down boxing, we don’t need another. Boxing needs competitive fights and right now Alvarez would be boxed silly by Mayweather. No would enjoy watching that fight unless you love mismatches.

De La Hoya will obviously try hard to put this fight together because this would be an in house fight for Golden Boy Promotions. However, I can’t see Mayweather agreeing to this. He has enough business sense to see that the fight is way too premature. Alvarez is still teething on fringe contenders and hasn’t come close to fighting his first dangerous opponent. The soft matchmaking for Alvarez has hurt him because every one of his fights in the past year has been boring, one-sided fights. There’s no drama with Alvarez’s fights because he’s been matched too softly.
