yeah I hope so. The heavyweights need a young, exciting guy with lots of power. Only problem with Haye though is he has a pretty shaky chin (I guess that makes it even more exciting?).

David Haye: "Two Fights, Then I Want Wladimir Klitschko"

By Mark Vester

Former undisputed cruiserweight champion David Haye is hoping to land a shot at WBC/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko by 2009. Haye recently signed a four-fight deal with Setanta Sports and his promotional company, Haymaker Promotions, agreed to a five-year partnership deal with Golden Boy Promotions. All four of Haye's fights under the Setanta deal will be contested at the O2 Arena.

Haye plans to take two fights at heavyweight against top contenders and then hunting for Klitschko. The first opponent is being rumored as former champion Hasim Rahman.

"I've met Wladimir Klitschko, who is universally recognised as the best heavyweight, and said to his face that there is no other fight out there that people are interested in," Haye told PA Sport. "He half agreed but he has two mandatories in the way. I told him to get those guys out of the way."

"After that there is no reason why we can't get it on. He said I don't have a good ranking, but I told him not to worry about that. He said that if I'm ranked high enough there's no reason why it can't happen. There's no other option for him other than me because there are no other big challenges out there for him."

"I'll fight two top 10 heavyweights and obliterate them. I'll show the world what heavyweight boxing really can be. Right now it's a disgrace."

Nate Campbell-Joel Casamayor For 8/27? King Wins Bid

By Mark Vester

Earlier today at the WBO headquarters in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the purse bids were submitted for the lightweight bout between champion Nate Campbell and mandatory contender Joel Casamayor.

Promoter Don King beat out Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions for the promotional rights to the fight. King placed a purse bid of $1,220,000, more than doubling De La Hoya's bid of $571,000. The split, according to the WBO, will be a 50/50 between Casamayor and Campbell.

King told the WBO that August 27 is the target date for the fight, with the event landing in Florida, England or Las Vegas. The WBO gave King has until Thursday, May 29 at 4:00pm EST, to send the fight contract to Golden Boy. All parties must have their contracts signed in five (5) business days, and the WBO must receive the signed contract no later than Tuesday, June 3rd by 4:00pm EST.

The WBO ordered that if Nate Campbell fails to comply by not signing the contract, Casamayor, the sanctioning body's interim champ, would immediately become the full champion. If Casamayor fails to sign the contract, then Campbell would be free to make an optional defense while the next mandatory challenger is determined

Cotto: "If Mayweather Don't Want Me, It Doesn't Matter"

By Mark Vester

WBA welterweight champion Miguel Cotto will not sit around to wait for a potential fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. He views the upcoming fight with Antonio Margarito, scheduled for July 26 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, as the fight to crown the best welterweight in the world.

Speaking with MaxBoxing/BoxingScene.com's Steve Kim, Cotto says he will march forward - refusing to become another fighter calling on Mayweather for a fight.

"I think people everywhere have said that the winner of this fight (with Margarito) will be the best welterweight champion. I don't have to call for Floyd Mayweather. He has to know what he has to do," Cotto said. "I'm here to face all of the big names in boxing. If Floyd Mayweather doesn't want to face me, it doesn't matter to me. I have to continue with my career."

Regarding the size difference between him and Margarito, he is not intimidated. He predicts a big battle to play out in July.

"I faced a guy of his size when I was at 140, Kelson Pinto. I'm pretty conformatble with my height, I don't need any more inches to handle Margarito. When you have two guys that like to fight, put pressure on their opponents, you will have a battle," Cotto said

Abraham: "Edison Miranda Doesn't Have To Fear Me

By Mark Vester

Unbeaten IBF middleweight champion Arthur Abraham is preparing hard for his June 21 rematch with Edison Miranda. Abraham decisioned Miranda back in September of 2006 in a memorable bout. Miranda badly broke Abraham's jaw and lost five-points for various infractions that were claimed by the ref. Blood flowed from Abraham's mouth until the final bell and his jaw was swelled like a watermelon.

Miranda has claimed that he was robbed the officials in Germany. He gets his chance to redeem himself as the rematch takes place in his backyard of Florida, at the catch-weight of 166-pounds.

Abraham says that Miranda does not have to fear him, but he must respect him.

"Miranda doesn't have to fear me in the ring. I'll come in there and fight my fight. But, my opponents should never forget to respect me when they stand in front of me in the ring," Abraham tells Sarah Fenske. "I'm training twice a day and feel very good. In 20-days I depart for the United States, until then I'll train even more. I'm training with everything I have in the gym

Mayweather vs. Cotto: Is Floyd Ducking or Banking?

By Rick Reeno

Background - In 2007, WBA welterweight champion Miguel Cotto (32-0, 26KOs) emerged as the biggest threat to the welterweight reign of Floyd Mayweather Jr. (39-0, 25KOs). Cotto's wins over Zab Judah and Shane Mosley have catapulted him into the boxing spotlight. Mayweather took part in two fights in 2007, against Oscar De La Hoya and Ricky Hatton, winning both and earned millions in the process.

Perception From The Outside - Mayweather's image is taking some heavy hits for the lack of "danger" involved in his fights. The boxing public is turning against him with each passing year. Countless experts are poised to rank Manny Pacquiao in the top spot of the pound-for-pound rankings (and some have).

Mayweather's fights against an aging De La Hoya and an overmatched Hatton made him a lot of money, but the two wins did not add enough stock to his credibility as being the best in the sport. He was a heavy favorite to beat both and that's the chance you take in fighting for the most money with the least risk involved.

The fight with De La Hoya was tolerable because of the "passing of the torch" factor and the fight was Mayweather's path to becoming a household name. When he was matched against Hatton, we all knew the outcome and even the British media listed Mayweather as the significant favorite. Hatton is simply not in the same talent league.

If his critics were looking down at those fights, his recent career choices have made even some of the most hardcore Mayweather supporters begin to question his decision making. The planned September rematch with De La Hoya is not creating any real buzz. Few seem to care the second time around. Last year's fight broke pay-per-view records, but it lacked any real drama. For all of the anticipation and pre-fight theatrics, the average viewer left disappointed.

Floyd Mayweather Sr. said it best - "they need me to sell the rematch." I think De La Hoya brought in Mayweather Sr. for the pay-per-view sell factor of "father vs. son," and not for his training capabilities. Mayweather Sr. is one of the best trainers in the sport, I just don't see anything that an aging De La Hoya can do to reverse the result of their first fight. The fight will be sold on the bad blood that exists within the Mayweather family. Talk of a 2009 rematch with Hatton is an insult to the intelligence of boxing fans.

Cold Hard Facts - Mayweather is no longer the "Pretty Boy." That Mayweather left in 2006. He is now consumed by his new persona - "Money Mayweather." The rematch with De La Hoya is by far the most money he can make against a less threatening opponent. Cotto is a much tougher fight and worth a lot less in the bank. He can earn $20 million against De La Hoya or a possible $10 million (if that much) against Cotto. It's hard to argue with the money.

The constant talk of Mayweather-Cotto can come to deafing end in July. We can't overlook that Cotto's fight with Antonio Margarito is going to be a war. Cotto is the favorite to win, but he's not an overwhelming favorite. Margarito is the most dangerous opponent of his career and the danger involved is the reason why the avergae boxing fan loves a guy like Cotto.

De La Hoya rematch or no De La Hoya rematch, if Cotto beats Margarito - the fight with Mayweather will happen. For all the talk of walking away from the sport of boxing, when was the last time a fighter in his prime was able to walk away from the sport?

Mayweather has made a lot of money, and he spends a lot of money. To keep spending that kind of money, he will need to keep on fighting. Beyond a De La Hoya rematch, the winner of Cotto-Margarito is the only "legit" avenue. I don't see him moving forward with a second helping of Hatton. The first fight was too one-sided and the financial risk to put on another pay-per-view between them is too great. Forget Mayweather's rivalry with Cotto's promoter Bob Arum. Floyd is "Money," and when there is enough money involved, feelings quickly change.

Yeah, the June 7th lineup is tight. Sucks that HBO and Showtime both have fights going on same night, but I gotta think that the Showtime event will be more competitive and more entertaining.

And if you're referring to the June 21st event, Arthur Abraham vs. Edison Miranda, they are both exciting. This is their rematch. Abraham won the first time in a controversial decision in Germany. Miranda broke Abraham's jaw in two places. It was pretty nasty:

No love for PDL vs JML? That fight should be a dope intro to Pavlik blowing Locketts head off.

I'm going with showtime. I think Quintana/Williams will be good, plus I want to see Mora get his ass kicked.
Both should be real dope .. I'm a sucker for the -lw classes though. I did watch Quintana/Julio again the other day to get myself ready. Funny how the broadcast was centered around Julio before the fight started and by mid fight it was all about Quintana.

LMAO .. I think Mundine vs Soliman III is joke of a fight but this is some good shit ..

Mundine caught with pants down!

Tuesday, May 27 2008

A practical joke has caused things to heat up even more for Wednesday night's WBA super middleweight title fight between Anthony Mundine and Sam Soliman at Vodafone Arena in Melbourne, Australia. During Tuesday's weigh-in, while Mundine was flexing on the scale for photographers, Soliman (whom fight fans know from the Contender series) sneaked over and pulled down the champion's loosely fitting pants. Mundine was angry about the incident and tried to headbutt Soliman before being restrained. "He ain't gonna catch me like that again," he told AAP. "I'll hurt him, I'll hurt him bad. I told him 'I'll make you pay for that sh*t'." It will be the third match between the two, with Mundine winning both previous bouts -- a controversial decision in 2001, and a ninth round KO last year.

@ 2-0 .. I been meaning to ask you if you heard about Lyoto Machida (MMA). Dude has some of the best footwork and side to side movement in MMA. Don't know if you watch MMA much but I think you'd like watching dude fight. He gets in and out without getting touched, making people look silly when they throw wild punches and can't even touch them.
