Seen some talk on boards about Dan Goossen being in critical condition nothing official yet...
On Friday's SiriusXM's "At the Fights," caller Jimmy Paige, a Los Angeles-based attorney and long time fight fan and friend of the show, called in to give the news about Dan Goossen. Paige said he was at a boxing dinner last week in the Los Angeles area when an announcement about Goossen was made at the dinner. The talk is he is suffering from Cancer.
Goossen is currently at a undisclosed hospital in California.

De La Hoya says Kirkland a possibility for Canelo in December

Canelo Kirkland Canelo vs. Kirkland saul alvarez james kirkland By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar De La Hoya is saying that James Kirkland (32-1, 28 KOs) is a potential opponent for former WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (44-1-1, 31 KOs) for his fight on December 6th at the Alamodome, in San Antonio, Texas, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN.
Kirkland was thought to be out of the picture for the 24-year-old Canelo after he’d agreed to fight Gabriel Rosado. But with that fight falling part due to Kirkland not happy with the money for the fight, it now leaves him as a possibility for the red-haired Canelo to fight.
“Spoke to O @oscard eLaHoya and asked if Kirkland was possible for @caneloOficial in December. He said now there is a chance of that fight,” Dan Rafael said on his twitter.
Kirkland vs. Canelo is actually a pretty decent fight compared to Joshua Clottey, who has been mentioned as Canelo’s likely opponent for that date. At least Kirkland is a legit junior middleweight with some size and power.
He’d have a fighting chance of beating Canelo, and he wouldn’t just stand with his back against the ropes covering up for 12 rounds like we saw with Clottey in the biggest fight of his career against Manny Pacquiao four years ago in 2010.
I’d still be very, very surprised if De La Hoya and Canelo were to agree to take the Kirkland fight because he’s someone with a decent chance of beating Canelo, and that would mess up his fight with WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto next year on Cinco de Mayo.
I suppose De La Hoya could still make that fight happen even if Canelo gets whipped by Kirkland, but it would be kind of a joke because fans wouldn’t be all that excited about paying to see a Canelo-Cotto fight with Canelo coming off of a loss to Kirkland.
Canelo would have an advantage over Kirkland given that Kirkland hasn’t fought since last December. He’ll have been out of the ring for exactly one year since his 6th round stoppage win over Glen Tapia. Being out of the ring for that length of time definitely won’t be a positive for Kirkland.

Hopkins-Kovalev fight loses some of it’s meaning now that Beterbiev has emerged

SERGEY KOVALEV Artur Beterbiev bernard hopkins By Dan Ambrose: Before last night, the November 8th fight between IBF/WBA light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins (55-6, 32 KOs) and WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev (25-0-1, 23 KOs) was considered to be a fight in which the winner would be seen pretty much as the main guy in the 175 pound division.
But now with Artur Beterbiev (6-0, 6 KOs) coming out of nowhere to destroy former IBF 175 pound champion Tavoris Cloud (24-3, 19 KOs) in 2 rounds last night, the Hopkins-Kovalev winner won’t have proven anything.
The winner of the Hopkins vs. Hopkins fight will still need to prove themselves against Beterbiev, Adonis Stevenson and Jean Pascal before they can say their the No.1 fighter in the light heavyweight division.
Right now, Beterbiev has to be seen as the next highest guy to Hopkins and Kovalev as far as the top fighters in the division. You can’t really factor Stevenson and Pascal into the equation because both of those fighters are flawed and not likely rugged enough to handle a fighter like Beterbiev.
Beterbiev will need to pick up a few more important victories for him to get a shot at the top fighters, because he doesn’t have enough fights under his belt right now for him to be given a crack at a title. Beterbiev needs to get ranked in the top 5, preferably at No.1, and then he can force the likes of Kovalev, Hopkins, Pascal, and Stevenson to fight him.
Hopkins vs. Kovalev is a good eliminator type fight, but it’s hardly a fight that will pick out the overall top guy in the light heavyweight division. With the way that Beterbiev looked last night, I think he could easily have come in and beaten either Hopkins or Kovalev. Abraham Smith Abraham vs. Smith paul smith arthur abraham By Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn says he’ll be appealing to the World Boxing Organization to have his beaten fighter Paul Smith (35-4, 20 KOs) made the mandatory challenger to WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (41-4, 28 KOs) so that Smith can get an immediate rematch.
Hearn isn’t happy that Smith lost to Abraham by a 12 round unanimous decision by the scores of 117-110, 117-111 and 119-109 last Saturday night at the Kiel, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Hearn thought that it’s a fight that could have done either way, but by much closer scores. Since the scores were too lopsided for Hearn’s liking, he wants a rematch.
“119-109 is just not right in the sport of boxing,” Hearn said. “We will be appealing to the WBO, not for an immediate rematch because we don’t think that possible because we know how the system works. But because we feel Paul Smith should be installed as the immediate mandatory for Arthur Abraham. He hasn’t had a mandatory for a while.”
Hearn says he knows how the “system works.” I think it would be ridiculous for the WBO to order a rematch between Abraham and Smith. The judges made their decision and they felt that Abraham landed the better shots in the fight, and that’s why the scored the fight in such a lopsided manner. Even Hearn says it very well could have gone the other way in Abraham’s favor. I mean, that’s the difference in Smith losing by 10 points or losing by 1. He still lost the fight, and that’s the main thing.
Smith gave it his best shot, but he was simply outclassed by the more talented Abraham. We can’t have Abraham’s career stalled out fighting endless rematches against Smith just because he and his promoter Hearn aren’t happy with the lopsided scores. The judges did what they’re supposed to do, and that’s score the fight in a professional manner based on what they saw in the fight. Smith was getting hit with way too many big shots in every round for the judges to give him the fight or even give him a lot of rounds.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Hearn’s complaining to the WBO gets Smith an immediate rematch against Abraham. But I don’t see it making a big of difference. Abraham has too much power, too much talent, and Smith is just too easy to hit. If they fought 100 times, I see Abraham winning each time. That’s why a rematch is pretty much pointless. Smith just doesn’t have the talent to beat Abraham as far as I’m concerned. Smith and Hearn just need to accept the fact that the better man won last Saturday night.
What we don’t want to see is Abraham whipping Smith over and over again, and Smith and Hearn complaining about the decision each time and appealing to the WBO 24/7. Abraham needs to move on his career instead of getting stuck fighting a complaining Smith for the rest of his career.
I wouldn’t mind seeing a rematch between Smith and Abraham if Smith were to beat someone like Andre Dirrell or Gilberto Ramirez first in order to prove that he deserves another title shot against Abraham. But for Smith to get another fight against Abraham without earning it, I wouldn’t be in favor of that.

Andre Ward's contract is with Goossen Tutor Promotions, so the contract is still valid. I don't know who will take Dan's spot (a family member I'm sure, they are a boxing family) so nothing will change with Ward's situation. Too me, it's sad that Ward spent all this time suing Dan in his final days. By all accounts, Dan was a pretty good guy and a lot different than other promoters. Ward started with Goossen and ai always felt Goossen Totur did everything possible for Ward's career. I never understood why Andre had such a problem the past couple years. He is the one that signed a long term contract, that was his decision and he should honor it (which the courts have ruled in favor of Goossen three times now. Just seems like a big waste of time and energy to me).
I always felt that Goosen has done right by every fighter he's had. He's a small promoter by our standards of wanting the biggest fights, and he regularly got great tv spots for a lot of his guys. Ward really looks like a prick in this situation and it's only getting worse.
I hadn't heard of anyone in the family working under the promoter umbrella but I wouldn't be surprised if that was true.

Canelo vs Grandmaster Clottey comfirmed for December, regular HBO.
I don't mind this fight at all since its on regular HBO (not PPV) and it's basically a stay busy fight for Cotto next year. Plus Clottey did everyone a favor and just destroyed that prick Anthony Mundane so I'm down to see him get another little payday. Plus, he could put up a good fight (let your hands go please )

Angulo was at the gym last night back training with Clemente Medina.
His camp basically swarmed the gym last night and training room became tight.
I wonder if he is swapping trainers. I heard Mares is coming back (rumors) but I haven't seen anythig official yet.
Funny, Virgil takes two fighters. One seems to have left and the other is rumored to leave as well. Both possibly coming back to Medina.
Angulo looks small right now. Maybe just because I saw him in real life. Just looking really lean I guess.

Saunders-Korobov Back in Play For Vacant WBO Title

According to World Boxing Organization President Paco Varcacel,* WBO 154-pound champion Dememtrius Andrade passed on the opportunity to face Matt Korobov for the vacant WBO middleweight crown, which Peter Quillin vacated several weeks ago.
After Quillin vacated, it was believed that Korbov (24-0, 14KOs) would face Billy Joe Saunders (20-0, 11KOs) for the WBO title. But then Andrade put in a request with the WBO, which they approved, to face Korobov for the belt.
Andrade has since informed the WBO that he plans to stay at 154 to defend his title. Saunders was being lined up for a domestic brawl with Chris Eubank Jr. - but Eubank never signed the contract.
Saunders' promoter Frank Warren had previously told BoxingScene.com that he was very interested in placing Saunders-Korobov in the co-featured slot to the rematch between Tyson Fury and Dereck Chisora, which takes place on November 29th from ExCel Arena in London
"[Andrade] will defend the*WBO 154-pound title. Looks like Korobov-Saunders will take place in England for the vacant 160-pound belt," Varcacel stated.

According to the World Boxing Council, specific request from the boxers involved,*the sanctioning body has approved a ten (10) day*extension of the free negotiations period for the mandatory fight between WBC champion Danny Garcia*and challenger Viktor Postol. Accordingly, if the parties fail to reach an agreement during the extension period, the previously announced purse bid will take place on October 10, 2014.
