If I'm not mistaken, the way they caught margarito was actually from having tape directly on the wrist and asked for a re-wrap. Once they did that, they grabbed the entire wrap after it had been cut off and noticed the extra pad on top. A folded gauze is common over the knuckled but cannot exceed a certain thickness in most states (which never made sense to me because this is actually a disadvantage to the puncher, not the other guy). They noticed when they had the wrap off, that it was wet and hardening as time went on.

Cotto will never beat Floyd but so what who can? To me its just Cotto has gone back to being real aggressive which was why he was so dangerous before the Margarito fight. After that fight he wasnt the same for at least a few fights and his trainers tried to make him into to much of a boxer and focusing on being too defensive when his strengths were trying to take foo's heads off. I do think his footwork has improved a bit and it has helped him land shots better. Roach can get some credit for that

Also the way Cotto fights was Sergio's kyrptonite bad knees or not. Kirkland or even Trout could still beat Cotto cuz of the way they fight. GGG would probably kill Cotto I can admit that but the Sergio Martinez of even 5 years ago would not beat Cotto!

I agree with you, but even if Cotto looses to the likes of GGG come the end of this year, the plan for GBP and TR to compete vs Showtime and Floyd Mayweather are there. Like I said before, Cotto can lose and still have a huge fight vs Canelo next year

Naw, Cotto will fight Macklin. They did have him on the undercard and they can promote that fight by saying Macklin is dangerous. It will be a non ppv fight. Cotto will do it since the Canelo fight will happen and can generate a shitload of money with a title on the line.

Macklin? You just making up things out of thin air now! He didn't fight on the undercard. Andy Lee did, not Macklin. In fact, Macklin was arrested in Ireland the day before the Cotto fight for assault.

Anyways, tickets selling fast at the garden:

That article also believes what I had believed a while back, that Cotto will drop the title, but I doubt it. Cotto is on his high horse right now. Either way Cotto's next fight will not be a PPV fight and he can beat Rubio too. Cotto, GGG, and Canelo are taking away the attention from the welterweight division and come next year 160 will be the division to watch.

Arum says Canelo vs. Cotto could happen on Cinco de Mayo in 2015; Mayweather pushed off his date?

saul alvarez miguel cotto floyd mayweather jr By Dan Ambrose: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum if kicking around the idea of matching WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto against former WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez on Cinco de Mayo in 2015 or possibly this year. If the Canelo-Cotto fight does take place on Cinco de Mayo in 2015, they’ll effectively be pushing Floyd Mayweather Jr off of his date unless he can pick out a star big enough to cause Arum not to want to compete with his fight on that date.

It’ll be difficult for Mayweather to pick someone else popular enough to outperform the Canelo-Cotto fight unless Mayweather were to fight someone like Gennady Golovkin. That’s not going to happen though.

“That’s [Canelo vs. Cotto] a definite possibility. Whether that happens this year or sometime next year at Cinco de Mayo, we’ll have to see,” Arum said.

Arum knows that if he has a Cotto vs. Canelo fight, he would have a big enough fight to force Mayweather off of his date on Cinco de Mayo, because that’s a fight that would easily draw 1.5 million pay-per-view buys or more depending on how Canelo does in his next fight against Erislandy Lara on July 12th. If Canelo comes out of that fight looking great, and if Cotto wins his next fight later this year, then we could see a tremendous fight between the two of them on Cinco de Mayo next year.

It would be the perfect setup for a big money fight along the same lines as Mayweather’s fight against Canelo last year in September. It might even eclipse that fight in terms of PPV numbers. But there’s a big question mark about whether Canelo will be able beat Lara, and whether Cotto will successfully defend his WBC middleweight title. Both guys are vulnerable. They may have looked good in their last fights against Alfredo Angulo and Sergio Martinez, but both fighters are still very flawed.

Canelo: This will be the toughest fight of my career against Lara

Canelo Lara Canelo vs. Lara saul alvarez erislandy lara By Dan Ambrose: Former WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (43-1-1, 31 KO’s) has finished licking the mental wounds from his one-sided loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr from last September and he now has one win under his belt since that loss in beating a very slow Alfredo Angulo last March.

That victory has Canelo feeling as confident as he was before his loss to Mayweather, and he’s going to need that confidence in order to deal with Erislandy Lara (19-1-2, 12 KO’s) in their catch-weight at 155 pounds next month on July 12th on HBO pay-per-view from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The 23-year-old Canelo feels that the Lara bout will be the toughest one of his career. It’s hard to know what Canelo means by saying that. Does he mean he thinks that Lara is better than Mayweather or is there more on the line for this fight due to Canelo being in the situation where he can’t afford another loss at this point if he wants to remain a PPV attraction in the sport?

“I’m expecting one of the toughest fights of my career on July 12,” said Canelo Alvarez. “So knowing that I’ll have my fans cheering me on, not just in the arena but in movie theaters throughout the country, has me even more motivated to beat Erislandy Lara and give the fans a fight to remember.”

Canelo is going to need to raise his game considerably from what we saw from him in the Mayweather fight. His trainer Chepo Reynosa had said that they had an excellent game plan for the Mayweather fight, but it didn’t turn out that way. Canelo looked like he didn’t know what he was doing in the ring, and his trainer had the look of panic and confusion in there. As lost as they both were in that fight, it’s difficult to picture them being able to deal with a highly skilled fighter like Lara on July 12th.

“This is the fight that the fans and I demanded and now they will get to see it on a grand scale,” said Lara. “There is no better situation in boxing then to see two hungry fighters willing to put everything on the line for the honor and glory of their fans. I’ll be sending a strong message to the world come July 12th, that you can count on!”

If Lara beats Canelo, then it’s going to shake things up in a big way. Canelo will need to move up to the middleweight division unless he wants to settle for being third fiddle at 154, and we wouldn’t even be sure that Canelo would be the third best fighter at 154 because Miguel Cotto is still fighting at this weight, and you also have Demetrius Andrade.
