Barry Sanders, because he didn't have a good offensive line to block and open holes for him. He gained and created yards on his own a lot of the time. I would put Jim Brown right behind in second place, because he would straight plow defensive players over.

By the way, how come "The Bus" Jerome Bettis is not on the list? I mean if your going to have Bo Jackson, Marshall Faulk, etc....

Come on man, Emmitt was a north/south runner that played with one of the best offensive lines in all time history. Yes, he was a great back but no where near as skilled as Barry Sanders (who played on a horrible team), Walter Payton, Jim Brown, etc.

If Barry Sanders for example played on the same team Emmitt did, he would have demolished all rushing records.

Stats and records don't tell the whole story. I mean Jerome Bettis has more rushing yards than Jim Brown and Dickerson but no one in their right mind would say Bettis was better than them.

True, but thats what good runners do is run NORTH & SOUTH....Emmitt Smith dosent have near the shake that barry had, sweatness was great...But numbers are numbers....Good line or not....Thats the organizations fault for not utilizing the talent by putting a supporting cast around people like barry sanders....Emmitt could catch out of the backfield, he was strong like an ox...And had some shake....Get him off the commentary though he sucks at that.....!!! GALE SAYERS was a hell of a back also...

How old is this list? Some of those players in CAPS are not active anymore.
