I like Gomez too, and in normal circumstances I'd go for him, but let's say Gomez does pull off the upset somehow. That means the chances of seeing Cotto vs Mayweather are slim to none in the foreseeable future. If all goes according to plan, and Cotto wins, he faces the winner of the Margarito vs Cintron fight around the same time Mayweather is having his rematch with ODH. Then, in early '09 we can finally see the Champion welter vs the #1 ranked welter.

A Gomez win would really be a rock thrown into the gears; Cotto would drop in ranks, Gomez would have a belt and he'd fight the winner of Margarito vs Cintron (maybe) and would lose. So Mayweather would have to decide if he wants to fight Margarito/Cintron, who would probably be less money then someone else with a bigger name but not as good. It'd be all bad

Yeah I am picking Gomez to upset Cotto as well. Styles make fights and Gomez has the style to beat Cotto. Should be a good bloody fight.

I only seen Cintron fight one time and I don't remember much about it so it's hard for me to predict who's going to win that one.

How does Gomez have the style to beat Cotto, seriously I want to know?

Gomez doesn't punch stronger then Zab Judah, Carlos Quintana, Ricardo Torres, Shane Mosley and is slower then Zab Judah, Carlos Quintana, Shane Mosley, Malignaggi and Ricardo Torres.

He doesn't have very good defense at all and is an easy target, especially to the body and his conditioning has always been a problem for him.

I just don't see it.

Margarito wins easily again (KO)

I like Gomez but he's nowhere near the fighter Cotto is. Cotto wins easily. (KO)

Tarver shouldn't be fighting any longer. Woods wins by a wide margin. (UD)

Dawson wins in a close fight. (UD)

He (Gomez) doesn't fight going backwards. He comes forward and he's going to beat Cotto because of his style. Cotto feasted on Zab because he fought going backwards.... Shane Mosely gave Cotto a good fight especially when he decided to come forward. We'll see but I am picking Gomez to pull off the upset.... plus he's taller too.

well if he goes forward he's just going to meet Cotto who isn't backpedaling, which means they'll slug it out on the inside, which again, imo, is a huge advantage to Cotto. If he did for whatever reason have to take a step back and box, he's also the better boxer of the two as well and when forced he's a pretty good boxer (as shown in the later rounds vs mosley).

idk man, I'd be absolutely shocked if Gomez pulled off the upset, it just seems to me Cotto is better at every aspect of the sport (he's faster, stronger, more experienced, better conditioning, better boxer, better defense). the best aspects of Gomez is his heart and his chin, so I could see the fight possibly going the distance and Gomez staying pretty competitive and probably will gain a lot of fans after taking a beating for 12 rounds and people will applaud his willpower and tremendous heart, but more than likely his corner will throw in the towel around 8-10 rounds if he's able to survive the liver shots. LOL, man I'm telling you it's going to be a slaughter!!

^We'll see... even though Cotto is undefeated I feel he's overrated. Gomez is going to win that fight.
2 years ago, Cotto was overrated, but he's put in a lot of work to make himself a more complete fighter, IMO; I don't think Gomez has a chance unless he catches him with a hard shot, by surprise, like Corley did when he rocked Cotto's ass in Puerto Rico.

So of course he has a chance, but I think Cotto's defense has gotten better and better as he's aged...and I see this being a slugfest, actually; Gomez better answer those body shots he's sure to get.
