i dont think so really, canibus is still doin shit, and back in the day he was considered good too. aesop is still doin his thing, same with atmosphere. and as a whole i think some hip hop has gotten better, like, there wasnt really conscious rap or backpack rap back in the 90s, most of the albums i wish i had more of came out between 2001 and 2004. but anyways
No disrespect but atmosphere is TERRIBLE. And Canibus was good, but he doesn't know how to make a song to save his life. And yes there was concious rap back then. In fact its very easy to put together a solid case as to why that was THE era of concious rappers.Gangstarr, Pete Rock & CL Smooth, KRS One, Public Enemy, Dead Prez, 2pac, Black Thought (the Roots), Poor Righteous Teachers, Paris, De La Soul, etc, etc, etc. And as far as backpack rap, back then the backpackers were guys like the Boot Camp Clik and Wu Tang Clan. Street shit, not this weirdo outer space music that they call backpack rap today.

there is a new breed of sick rappers and if they died we would consider ledgends

Tonedeff, tech n9ne, celph titled, the game, brotha lynch, lupe fiasco, chamillioanire, bun b, papoose, phonte, common, talib kweli, crooked i, median, ken starr, krayzie bone the list goes on .. u cant say all these dudes havnt left their mark for this day and age
Lynch is an early to mid 90's guy. But take him off the list and you have a list of guys that are good, but have yet to make a classic album with the exception of Common when he was called Common Sense(in the 90's lol) and maybe Tech n9ne.. Some have made solid albums but these guys are not on the same level as the guys back then were.
