I don't think it's a step back for the Niners

Alex Smith sparked they offense... they might as well give him another shot... he may have really stepped his shit up for real, maybe not? they have to at least see if they have anything there

Hill obviously isn't the future
you are an undercover niner fan.

lol. in order for ASS to have a remote chance at revamping his sinking NFL career, he needs a fresh start with another team. getting rid of nolan will be helpful but he still didnt step up and win or even tie the game last week. sorry, i'm not into moral victories. those are for losers.

this is ASS related. regardless of how many steps back the raiders take, and i'm not saying i agree with whats going on, i will be in oakland on sundays if playing at home. real fans support their team through the thick and the thin.

i'm joking.

Hill has a better winning percentage than ASS. i'm not saying he is all that but he seems to play, for the most part, mistake free football.

one thing i will say is i like ASS's attitude and work ethic. i just think he is too injury prone and if he does have a bad game this week niner fans will want his head. tough situation regardless.

lol, never that homie

I call it like I see it... I don't let the fact that I'm a Raiders fan cloud my views, all my opinions are realistic, about any team

their offense moved the ball much better with Alex Smith... you may be right, but we really don't know... Smith was a number one overall pick, even if there's just a slight possibility he can be a good QB they have to go for it... Shaun Hill doesn't have the skill set to be a great QB, I think he's done about as good as he will ever do... he's a good game manager... that's it. Smith has more athletic ability and POTENTIAL to be a good QB

look at it like this: say the Raiders decide to bench Jamarcus and make Gradkowski the starter... now say Gradkowski does a decent job managing the game, he doesn't light it up, but doesn't lose games for us... plays kinda like Shaun Hill...

now say sometime towards the middle of next season our offense is unable to move the ball with Gradkowski, and the coaches decide to throw in Russell and see what happens... and let's say Russell throw for 3 TD's with a nice completion percentage and almost wins us the game.... would you want the Raiders to still roll with Bruce? or would you want to give J Russ another shot? personally I'd say throw Russell back in... I'm pretty sure you would say the same thing

sometimes QB's get better by sitting on the bench for a while, and analyzing the game... is this the case with Smith? There's not enough evidence to prove that yet... but is it worth a shot? of course... the niners have not been great on offense all season... so they really don't have too much to lose

if Hill had been lighting it up all season I'd agree with you, but that's not the case... and I'm not saying all this because I'm a Niners fan, I'm just a football fan

neither do i. i may joke here and there but recognize good football even if it is the niners. we are talking raider/niners here though. my view obviously may not be to the niner fans liking and other fans of sports in general when we rib eachother.

he came in and they caught the texans off guard with the changed look on offense. ASS is worth another look, i didnt say that. much like the raiders, the niner organization has not been one of the better organizations in proffessional sports either. going somewhere else is probably the best thing, imo. singletary hasnt won anything yet.

Smith has more athletic ability and POTENTIAL to be a good QB
ASS hasnt done much other than get injured and regress much like JR. it is about sustaining it for a 16 game season and putting w's on the board.

i would have benched JR. considering the circumstances, now you have to fight through it and see what this kid has. it is obvious he is more concerned with his off the field activity up to this point. it isnt because he doesnt have the tools or has gotten injured. embarrassing him like that, as well as his numbers being horrid, hopefully sparks something in him. because of the investments, #1's get thrown in the fire when they really need to cook a few years on the sideline. i'm a raider fan and optimistic about my team and expectations just like other fans. there is pros and cons with everything. i see it but my view is well supported as well.

Alex looks promising, since its pretty much considered that we will like likely loose the game against the colts, then its doesnt matter who starts, in that case im all for smith starting, and by some miracle he pulls it off and connect the way he did with davis and crabtree, then my hopes are up. But if singletary decides to start hill i cant blame him, but considering his slump, we will go nowhere with hill as the starting QB......

ha niner fans hated Smith and agreed hes a bust.... After being drafted in the 1st round from starting to becoming a bench warmer,, he's sure getting a lot of love now! I guess solid performance can change your minds despite the years that passed.. fuck it at least he restructured his deal cuz he knew he sucked ass

You'd do the same if Jamarcus Russell was in Smith's shoes, looks like he's headed to the bust department too.

Shaun Hill was benched too early.... the pass protection wasn't there and the 9ers weren't running the ball good. I could see if he was turning the ball over like JR has.

I do agree he might have been benched too early, but I think he needed a kick in the ass and putting Alex Smith in during the 2nd half of the Texans game was a good way to do it. It seemed like he was getting a little too comfortable in the starting role and forgot about the fire he used to bring to the huddle. I would have been fine if they would have benched him for the 2nd half of the Texans game and started him at Indianapolis, but I'd also like to see if Alex Smith has actually progressed or if the 2nd half of last week's game was a fluke. We'll find out on Sunday. Plus, seeing Alex Smith in there is one step closer to seeing Nate Davis in there, which is what I really want.

heres a good response to that:

If this move works, he is a visionary. If it doesn't, he is indecisive. Either way, it is a fascinating development.

For all the claptrap about Smith getting a second chance, or the 49ers justifying his huge contract, or his higher maturity level, or all the pseudo-psychological nonsense being bandied about as reasons for the change, this is really about Singletary acknowledging that his team can't run, so it had better learn to pass.

The problem that forced the change is that the 49ers have two halves of one quarterback. Smith is the arm, the guy who, on the right day, can put up lots of points for you, at the risk of the occasional interception or error in judgment. Hill is the game manager, the guy who won't throw the bad pick or waste the clock needlessly but also won't make the dynamic play that saves you from defeat. Hill is the guy you want if you run the ball. Smith is the better choice if you need to throw it.

lol yeah Shaun Hill's arm sucks so he knows he can't really try to force the ball downfield. Alex Smith's accuracy and decision making are questionable.

LOL, have you seen how Clements been playin? Peyton has... he's going to work on Nasty Nate, you better hope he isn't covering #85.
Have YOU seen how Nate Clements has been playing? I can all but guarantee you haven't. He's done well outside of the Atlanta game. Get off his dick already Tony, he hasn't done shit to you! LOL

I disagree, I think it was perfect timing. Maybe, and this is specualtion, but maybe the team has had enough of hill and they don't want him as the QB.. found it hard to get motivated.. Everything changed when smith got put in, the whole offense lifted.
