im a big fan of vsts. who are you trying to convince? i dont limit myself to any one method of making music although i prefer reason due to having used it since day one. grab yourself some vagisil and calm down there. but since you wanna argue apples and oranges thats fine. your vsts and fx are limited by your cpu power. some of the simplest routing capabilities of reason would cripple anyone without the staunchest of systems running vsts and vstis. you are limited by your cpu power using vsts especially with programs like cubase etc... reason doesnt have that problem. i can have 400 synths layered (not that i would) and reason would run flawlessly while im simultaneously doing something else on my computer. try that with 30 vsts and vstis and a few audio tracks and your shit will come to a screeching halt.
wasnt nobody arguing buddy...if you call that arguing then you must of grown up in a real quiet and lonely environment.....

i said myself reason is great if its hooked up right with the right sounds.....i have it installed and i have beats i make with it....i just prefer using fl and vst's for my workflow....i can make 3 beats in the time it takes me to make one with reason...thats just me though....

and i aint gotta worry about cpu....i run around 10 vsts on average in my beats i dont really need more than that but i havent had any problems with cpu and if i did i would simply upgrade my computer for a lot less than what it would cost to purchase the good refills for reason.....and actually all truth be told my computer starts trippin on reason when i run more than 4 combinators....the combi does eat up cpu....

you buy refills? bwahahhaaaaa!!!

ive had reason for 7 or 8 years and its never crashed, hiccupped, burped or stuttered once. i like fl and vst's, like i said my fantom g6 is a vsti lol. i use it as my soundcard so i can use reason, fl, whatever i want all at once! i have the best of 4 worlds. i enjoy my setup so much more since i dumped the mbox.

no i dont and wouldnt pay for shit thats my whole point....you can find good refills for free more power to you but i havent been satisfied with any refills that claim to be great and the only ones ive seen that look like they might be something i want i can only purchase and havent been able to find for free.....on the other hand every time a new vst comes out that i wanna try i have never had a problem finding and getting for free like the Nexus and all its expansion paccs; spectrosonics atmosphere, trilogy bass, and rmx stylus synths; steinberg hypersonic 1 and 2 synths, and hella others.....

what refills you got that are good so i can try to find them?

ive found the triton, and fantom kits but was not impressed....probably cuz ive used a triton way too much already and the fantom sounds didnt really sound that good quality in comparison to the real fantom....i havent heard the motif ones yet.....

^ its not just refills u can get for reason because u can use .WAV files/.REX files so that expands your horizons so widely its almost impossible to not find sounds you can use. theres a lot of places that make royalty free sample cds, drum kits, FX sounds, synth sounds etc that are in wav format. on top of this u can just convert an old song you would like to sample into a wav file and goto town in that nnxt thang.

also i agree reason is stable like a motha fucka i cant really remember crashing it maybe once or twice but it was my fualt i was tyring to do hella shit.

yeah i know you can import wav files but i dont like using wav files except for drum hits....i rather use vsts for anything else.....even though most of the good ones generate the sound from a wav file but they add synthesis to em and shit so its bascially like if i took a really good wav file and added my own fx n shit but its already done with the vst and saves me work....

i just copy n past the loop over n over to make it a full songs length then i go into it and break it down by deleting data and leaving data on whatever traccs i want to play for that particular part....i make em with an 8 bar intro usually three 16 bar verses with three 8 bar hooks in between each verse then an 8 - 12 bar outro.....

oh and my myspace link is in my sig below but i made all them beats with fruity loops and vst's....

^^^how u mix down ur beats from reason....any u got myspace post ur pages i wanna see wat u guyz made with reason
Yeah i got a similar question...one of my boys uses pro tools and vsts and all that shit...im still fuckin with reason cause its whatever to me for now...but hes one of those types where now that he aint fuckin with reason anymore, he gotta talk down on it...now he says, the mixer in reason is gonna leave your beat soundin like shit...and i do honestly see a difference...but is there a way i could rewire it into somethin else to get a better sound? excuse my ignorance.

your sound will be better if you rewire through cubase or pro tools. the fx on reason are not mixing/mastering quality. not saying you cant get good results but they will be much better with high quality plug ins.

heres 3 songs i made using reason. the third one has chirps from my kitchen fire alarm in the background but we never got a chance to rerecord it and i never deleted it because the song still came out dope even though theres annoying chirps throughout it. lol

ill give a cookie to anyone who can name the song i sampled on the first song. its been sampled and replayed to death too so its not obscure. i'll give you a hint. motown.
